Hockey (band on Later 25.4.09)
Watched Later last night and liked this band but there is something bugging me about them.
Who do they remind you of? They remind me of another band or several other bands and obviously they will have influences in their music and style. The later site states The Strokes but i've never really heard much of them http://www.bbc.co.uk/later/artists/hockey/ http://www.hockeyband.co.uk/ http://www.myspace.com/hockey (prepare your eyes )

When I first heard "Too Fake", I thought it was by Hot Hot Heat...

The general style is just pretty similar, in particular the vocalists sound v. alike.. Youtube don't seem to have their official music vids anymore (copyright issues maybe?
), except for this one... "Middle Of Nowhere." http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=64wOKm1FCfk I'm sure they've a myspace etc. if you want to check out more of their stuff..

Had a look at a couple of their vids and i'm not fussed. Strange how you can like a band but not another with a similar sound

There's a decent interview with them here (complete with great headline):
Hockey couldn't give a puck about band buzz I thought their songs were very much 'LCD Soundsystem meets Strokes', which is a great combination but felt a bit derivative. Though one of my friends saw them on tour and swears they're going to be huge, I guess I can see it with the first song they played. |

I watched them on last weeks later and thought they were distinctly average to be honest.

I saw their video for "Too Fake" on MTV2 a few months ago, and it's a really good song. The bass line alone is worth a listen. I thought their Later performance was pretty good personally.
They're supporting Friendly Fires on tour at the moment, and they're pretty good too. |

I got the album the other day and in regard of styles it's all over the place.
Electro pop, disco, funk, punk, rock, blues, country ![]() It has some good tracks on it but Too Fake is definately the stand out track imo. The lead singers style reminds me a little of Artic Monkeys and strangely, Jamiroquai |
