How to connect sky, LCD Tv & Dvd Recorder
Hi there,
Can anyone assist with this dilemma because the instruction books are slightly confusing. Got Panasonic L37G10B tv with freeview and a freesat tuner. SKY + (not HD) Panasonic DVD recorder (DMD EX769K) Currently we have connected as follows: (we connected the TV to sky then added the DVD recorder). 1) Sky Box to TV using Scart In AV1. 2) TV has aerial cable 3) DVD recorder to Sky+ Box - using RF In (DVD Recorder) and RF Out in SKy + 4) Scart Between DVD and TV (AV2) 5) HDMI cable between DVD & TV. Is this the correct setup? The freeview works as does Sky through the TV but when we connected the DVD Recorder which has Freeview plus installed it could not find channels so I am thinking I need to move a cable or get another to connect two appliances that will enable the DVD to find channels? The DVD plays discs it is just the channels that need tuning so that I can record to the DVD hard drive. My other question ( Not as important since we have freeview and sky) is if the freesat is already installed, I have attempted to tune the freesat but it is unable to find channels. - Could this be because there is no freesat in the area (Bromley - kent)?. Many thanks |

Right.
The aerial should go to the DVD recorder RF IN. Then a lead from the DVD RF OUT to the TV. This will allow both TV and DVD to tune into Freeview. Ignore the RF IN and OUT on the Sky box. If the DVD has no aerial connection then it cannot tune in any channels. The fact that you have a connection to the TV which is connected to the aerial is irrelevant. The DVD could care less that you even own a TV much less that it is connected to one. It only needs an aerial and mains. Mind you makes it a tad hard to use with out a telly though Disconnect the SCART between DVD and TV at the TV end and plug into the Sky box "VCR" SCART. You don't need both SCART and HDMI between DVD and TV. But having the DVD connected to the Sky box via SCART will allow you to record a Sky channel while you watch Freeview on the TV. Just select the appropriate AV input on the DVD. You can't get Freesat on the TV without a connection to a satellite dish. The clue is in the name . That could be your existing Sky dish. If the LNB (the bit sticking out on the arm in front of the dish with the cable going to it ) is a dual or quad type then it might have a spare outlet that you can use. But what you cannot do is split the feed from dish to your Sky box to feed both it and the TV.If there was no Freesat in Kent then there would be no Freesat in the UK. |
