He has a steakhouse here in Dublin which has reasonable prices I believe...

can,t be bothered to go looking on internet to find them ...but on the fact of the matter.
yes there are a lot of reseraunts that charge $500 for a meal ok
if your so interested go look yourself.
I'm not interested, you're the one whose come on here saying there are lots of restaurants but you haven't provided evidence of a single one. Infact the two you provided evidence of were completely wrong.

I also found this list from 2006 which states the most expensive meal is $368 for a whole meal.:

How? That is for a whole meal, not a main course.

Hardly 'loads of restaurants' is it?

He is a great chef, and more hands-on than Ramsey who has spread himself too thinly.

Probably not 'with it' in the way that someone like Marcus Wareing is though.

Is he a good chef? Hmmm, I think he's definitely a piss-taker. His first series of HK, all he did was pour Worcestershire saunce and Tabasco sauce over EVERYTHING. When the public lapped it up, he probably wondered why he'd been away for so long!

In what way does it prove it was wrong?

My original quote was:-

'Sorry, where is this New York restaurant where the cheapest dish is $500? There is not a restaurant in the world that is that expensive.'

You found one restaurant where it seems a whole meal may possibly be $500, not a single dish. But you can't prove it is actually $500 either.

So I am still very much right.

Dan-of-numerous-digits does seem unable to provide details of restaurants that charge yadda yadda for a course...TBH, even those he has hailed based on basic research as whole meal price jobs for £500 aren't that. Those who frequent certain establishments (keeping no records) in those brackets don't advertise their prices in the same way that clientele only pay in a roundabout way.

I was once invited to a charity event where it was £350 per course for a dinner of seven courses.

I can back Deerd up here (just for a change!), I was watching Hubert Keller on Top Chef Masters the other night and they were talking about the $1000 burger he serves in his restaurant...
As for Marco P W's abilities...he is, undoubtedly, one of the greatest chefs ever. You don't become the youngest EVER chef to be awarded 3 Michelin stars, and the first in the UK by being anything other than gifted. No amount of hype or fashionableness would work either. Getting back to culinary planet earth for a minute his recipes are surprisingly accessible to us mere mortals, even back when he was cooking the really fancy stuff.
I am on a forum which (lucky for me) is used by quite a few of the great culinary bods and the vast majority seem to admire him greatly, most of them seem to like him enormously as well. He's one of the few people I would really like to meet...I'd like to meet Anthony Bourdain as well, but my motivation would be slightly different *Mave pauses to wipe drool off her chin*

Lovely to see Marco leading the tributes to Keith Floyd, I know they had real respect for each other.

Hey Camino

My Google Alerts for MPW tell me that he recently visited the Liverpool Food Festival, there are some articles about that. And yeah, his tribute to Floyd was nice. I've got those old videos saved where Marco cooks for Floyd back at Harvey's, they're classic!

His surname is White, not Pierre-White. Pierre's his middle name, not part of his surname.
And if you want another brill book, try "Kitchen Confidential" by Anthony Bourdain (I definitely recommend the confit de canard and the seven hour lamb in his Les Halles Cook Book). Alternatively, if you want to be put off being a carnivore for ever, try "My Year of Meat".
