DSLR cameras - should you still use a UV filter?

In the "olden days" of SLR film cameras it was often advised to use a sky light filter - or UV filter. Are these still recommended with DSLR cameras?

Thanks

I use them. It is just habit really, although I don't think they are essential.

I still use them, if for no other reason than to provide a barrier between the lens and greasy fingerprints.

I have a Hoya UV filter permanently on the lens of my Fuji S9600. If you knock your camera and get a scratch, better on a £9 filter than your lens.

thanks everyone, i think i'll get one (or two)! I just wasn't sure if there was some setting on the camera to adjust for UV - and so whether to get the plain lens protector, however i think i'll get the UV one - saves messing about with settings / photoshop!

Not sure if they're the same thing, but I have a Skylight fitted onto my lens. I use it in order to stop my chubby fingers destroying my lens

I wouldnt use a skylight filter as they give your images a slightly warmer tone, UV wont effect the colour.
