I've got the feeling only if specified in the task - I've seen it used a couple of times, but I think mention has been made during setting the task. They use Yellow Pages rather than google, the whole Nigella Beans incident of a couple of years ago that cost Andrew would have been prevented by a quick google.

I was wondering that too. I believe not. I guess they also can't 'phone a friend' and get them to google stuff?

They're just given phones and copies of Yellow Pages as far as I can see.

Task-related only. Otherwise they'd be aware of what's been said about them - not just by the public but by sacked candidates and how they're being perceived.

Remember also (the last series or the one before) when someone (Paul?) mentioned at the final interview stage that he'd never bothered to research AS and his businesses before he came on the show, and his complete lack of knowledge about it came out at the interview. He also mentioned other candidates being quite shocked at him for not bothering to do his homework. Which means they had no access to researching him while they were participating in the show - ie. no internet or mobile phone use outside of tasks.

Err, no, the whole thing is recorded months in advance so no one would know until after when the show's broadcast - and they're all back home again with unfettered access

Oops. Of course, you're right. Completely forgot the time frame.

And that's why I'm not on the Apprentice....

I read somewhere on another forum the strict Apprentice rules that say they are NOT allowed to use the internet.

It seems to be deliberately to make the whole thing harder for them -- giving them big telephone books + seeing how much research they can do that way.

Perhaps use of internet would make it "too easy" and too likely that both teams would find out exactly the same information ....?

It would also enable cheating. A quick email "I'm going to be in the King's Road @ 4pm with a rug. Turn up and pay me £200 for it, and I'll give you £50 for your troubles." and a task is won.

When I was looking at the whole forums list this thread was top so was showing as

Aren't they allowed to use..

The first words that popped into my head were 'their brains'. I can't believe these people can be so hopeless at organisation every week when they all claim to be of management level!

Andrew?

Adam Hoskins? Car salesman from Blackburn? Drank a lot? Didn't get on with Katie?

I know that model of Nokia they always use on handsfree can connect to the internet no problem as well! Am sure Nick or Mags would have their guts for garters if they started googling rug prices on ebay though

I'm pretty sure I remember Tre was filmed Googling ideas for designs in the Pet Product task.

I think it's a feature that could be disabled though. Either that or the candidates aren't sharp enough to realise that they could use it.

to be honest, it's pretty unrealistic not to be able to use the internet - unless SirAl's companies are still on typewriters and faxes...

No, they probably use PC1512 or PC1640s.

Probably picked up a batch of second hand ones going cheap.

But it does only take five seconds to disable it
