sd card

Hi all, I've bought a digital picture frame which works great, problem is i'm trying to use an old SD card with it but it says there are no pictures on the card and tells me to remove it without even the oppertunity to send any to it.

I think the card was originally bought for a sat nav.

Will formatting cure this problem?

If i buy a card reader for my pc will this format it? or will i have to buy software?

Thanks, and sorry for being dim

Formatting *might* help .... hard to say.

What type of card is it? Is it SDHC by any chance? This may cause problems if your photo frame can't read SDHC cards (SDHC is just the higher capacity version of standard SD ... but not all devices that read standard SD can read SDHC).

You can format it through a card reader connected to your PC. Again, check if it's SDHC first though .... if it is, make sure any card reader you get can read SDHC.

It's a panasonic 256mb card. I'll get a card reader then, thanks

Well SDHC isn't your problem then.

I presume you are certain it's the right type of card yes?

Only thing I can think is that it's been in something that has applied some sort of wierd proprietary format to it .... either that, or it's corrupted.

No, i don't know what type of SD card it is at all. On the back in small letters it says RP-SDH256. I bought it on the internet a few years ago, cost me an arm and a leg, can't believe how they've come down in price... and up in capacity

It was last used in a DAB radio to record sound

that is an old school card dude! 256mb, it has to be a standard SD card, try formatting it in windows and then putting the photos back on it.
If it doesn't work just buy a new card for about £5 which has 2GB

Yeah, I have a couple of ancient cards lying about that are about 8mb or something daft like that. Got them free with very old digital cameras if I remember right.

Completely useless nowadays!
