Thumbs up for Lidl
Just went to the new Lidl in town. Got a flyer through the post and there were some good offers on, especially for steak.
Anyway, on the way out a staff member said there was free food available. eh? It's store policy to give it away before it goes past the sell by date to save them chucking it. Cool I got two packs of sausages, two thai curry ready meals, 2 pints of milk and a BLT sarnie

What a bargain!
i checked out lidl for the first time last week, bit disappointed TBH. Lots of stuff I didn't want, couldn't find the stuff I did. I bought some flowers though, which have lasted well. Does anyone have any tips on which Lidl's products are especially good? Have any DS peeps tried their venison or lobster? Thanks |

I didn't have a proper look round. I bought a pack of steaks. They look a bit skinny width wise but are very thick which should work well for me as I like them coloured on the outside and rare in the middle. Good price for a 450g pack. A couple of quid per kilo cheaper than Asda/Tesco and the local butcher. Also I got there late so probably the best looking packs had gone.
I also got a bottle of bourbon which was recommended. Less than a tenner which is better than Asda/Tesco. |

However, their potato salad is the best in the world. Their meat is generally excellent and I just bought their very cheap tinned tomatoes and they were the best I've ever had. |

I like Lidl. You can do your shopping in peace without either loud music or oppressive lighting. And it's quite cheap. Win-win.

We don't have a Lidl near here. I'd be quite curious in having a mooch around

It really is worth buying a cheap tin, a mid-priced tin and an expensive tin. Then do a taste test. You'll be amazed! Marketing is a powerful (and often misleading) tool!

I think that's luck of the draw with which store. I have no complaints about the fruit and veg at mine - the opposite in fact as the prices are so good. 1kg of British carrots for 39p quite often (usual price is 44p). The cheapest Tesco do is 87p per kilo. They're not the freshest ever and you're forced to buy a set amount but at that price it's a heck of a deal. I avoid their meat apart from the free range chicken which I have to say is nicer than the Waitrose one. Only problem for me is the general depressing nature of the store and the people who shop there. |

I agree, Lidl is fab.
Our local Lidl is about 5 miles outside town & we don't drive so we don't get there often.

There's a Lidl about 15 minutes' walk from here, which I go to about once a week.
The tinned tomatoes are fine, and I have no complaints at all about the fruit and veg. I've bought all sorts of stuff from there- best buy of recent times is a small oven & grill combined for under £30, which works fine. The only stuff I'd avoid there are things like tins of beans (which I don't rate at all), and the Daily Express, which the sell. |

We had free flowers from there once, they were just handing them out at the checkouts, had 5 bunches!

I love Lidl and agree with the comments about the fruit & veg but some of their ready meals are fab.
We always pick up their Thai curries, fish dishes and the Lasagna is the best I've ever bought from a shop. Not runny at all, you can cut it with a knife it is so firm. The coleslaw is great and as for their choice of chocolate - fab! Non-food products are also good. I buy their make-up wipes, moisturizer and cream face wash which even my daughter can use even though she has eczema. Thumbs up all round. |

Lidl is great for bargains in your weekly shop but the annoying thing is you can't get everything and you end up going to Morrisons/Asda to get the missing bits making shopping drag out.
Only bad experience I had with Lidl is black pudding which was mainly oatmeal. Kids and I love the pack of individually packaged sweets in the shape of a burger in a bun. A good rule we use is to try Lidl brand products and if family don't like it we buy the named brand somewhere else. Things like tins of chopped tomatoes are a no brainer but breakfast cereal is more difficult as they are cheap copies of known brands and are hit and miss. |

A friend also recommended the salami & chorizo. I'll have to give it a go.

The fruit and veg does vary store to store, we are lucky the Lidl stores local to us have very good fruit and veg (we have several stores) however been to others in other parts of the country and not been so good.

And what's wrong with the people who shop there, oh yeah, that includes yoursel, so not only does your post sound very snobby, but it doesn't make any sense either |
