If artists did lot's of cover versions of songs, on their own private/personal youtube channel, could they still be sued?

There are plenty of cover versions of songs on youtube, by "normal/amateur" users. If a well known artist had their own personal account, but still made it well known that it was them, would they still have to buy the rights?

I don't mean the youtube usernames like "[X]offical", i just mean their own private one, away from the "X's offical youtube channel"?

If you broadcast anothers copyrighted material then technically you could be sued.
That copyright would include the use of thier lyrics and/or music of course and reproduction of said music and lyrics.
