Dark video output from Philips DVD Recorder
I've bought a Philips DVD Recorder - it works fine, however the picture that it outputs to my TV is quite dark.
Adjusting my TV's picture settings does not make any difference to the picture. Is there any way I can brighten the picture from the DVD Recorder itself? |

First check that whatever connection you have is sound and correct. Scart leads not fully inserted can cause a false picture as can certain loop through connections.

No - gold plated SCARTS are eye candy and technically unsound.
Check the black level clamp is not switched in in the DVD menu as it can seriously interfere with the contrast setting on the TV. If it's switched off, then use a test card to set up the TV like the kind on THX DVDs. |

I dont have a dvd recorder, When i connect my dvd player or Freeview box to my tv using RGB the picture is darker, I had to keep changing the picture settings when watching analogue tv so i have turned Rgb off. If this is causing your problam i dont know . I hope this helps.

That's probably because you are switching between RGB and composite - the TV setting usually goes to composite by default.
