Unbelievable - Charging for scraps!!!

I was just chatting to a US friend and got on to the subject of fish & chips and batter and I mentioned scraps.

I explained them and also did a seach to see if there were any sites about them and came across this story.

It's an old story but still a bit shocking

I used to get scraps on the way home from cubs - free if you got a bag of chips and a hapenny (old money) on their own.

Even the good or award winning chippies (e.g. Skipjacks in Queensbury) in the south don't do scraps.

I've heard that before. I think there was a discussion about it here. I'm not sure why the South don't do them as they are a natural by-product.

Also i've found that outside of my region chippies don't know what a half lot is. It's a small fish (or maybe offcuts) and a small bag of chips. It sounds as though it should be half the amount of a regular portion of fish & chips but if you're lucky do get a decent portion.

I grew up in the south and they always gave you scraps for free if you asked for them. This was back in the early 90's though
