June 15th for Torchwood - Children of Earth?

Gareth David-Lloyd has said this weekend that series 3 will air around the 2nd week of June. Also UK channel Watch has just put out a press release saying that it will re-run series 1 of Torchwood at 10pm from Monday 15th June and it says that viewers will be able to see these old episodes just one hour after Children of Earth has aired on BBC1.

So June 15th now looks pretty likely.

We should start seeing trailers for the new series after various episodes of Ashes to Ashes, The Apprentice and Heroes as we get closer to the airdate.

Seems almost certain now. I hope they don't start promoting yet, if it's event TV it needs to be brief but intense promotion rather than slugged out and normal.

Maybe do all the press stuff three weeks before, guest appearances two weeks before and then promote the show inbetween every primetime show the week before leading up to it.

That'll be a good birthday present. Well, 2 days late but I'll be partying. Watched the last 2 episodes of series 2 on Watch on Sat night.

Or maybe they might just start off with a very short three or four second teaser, one with no direct references to the name of Torchwood, just to get tongues wagging.

The official website has a brief 10 second trailer which only features children playing and chanting - no scenes featuring the cast - and a longer trailer which does. The brief trailer will probably air 3-4 weeks beforehand and the proper trailer 1-2 weeks beforehand.

I doubt they'll use either. The first was compiled for some convention and the second was for Aussie tv. Plus there wouldn't be any excitement for fans if the ads had already been available for months online.

It's the casual viewer that the BBC will start advertising at as the airdate gets closer, not fans. Remember that casual viewers will make up 90% of Torchwood's audience and even now, a large portion of casual viewers won't even know that a 3rd series has been made.

The second shorter trailer does have a more 'final' feel to it, as if it's been compiled for airtime on BBC1 and not just on websites for fans.

It seems like this is the only free week they could schedule it in! Remember, it's 5 episodes across 5 days Monday to Friday. They had to wait till The Apprentice was finished.

June 15 seems right as the preceeding Friday, the 12th, the NFT are holding a special preview of episode 1 with guests from cast and crew.

As an aside, there looks to be a US release date of the Children of Earth blu-ray for September 15th - maybe we will get a UK release on the 14th?

The thing that's intriguing me is the words "They're back" that's said in the trailer. I can't wait to find out who "They" are

Monday June 15th 2009 looks extremely likely as the TX date of 'Torchwood: Children of Earth'.

The BBC have already held their press screening for Episode 1 of Series 3, and the British Film Institute (BFI) are holding a screening of the first episode on Friday 12th June, so June 15th looks very likely as the transmission date.

Also, it seems like it's the only week where BBC One has a whole week (Monday to Friday) of primetime 9:00pm slots free. 'The Apprentice' and 'Ashes to Ashes' will have ended by June 15th, so yeah, that TX date seems very likely.

Plus, the schedules of digital channel Watch have placed episodes from Series 1 of 'Torchwood' on at 10:00pm on the week commencing 15th June, and their description says something along the lines of: "Watch previous episodes of 'Torchwood' directly after the broadcast of Children of Earth on BBC One", or something like that.

The week commencing June 15 looks like it's definitely the airdate for Children of Earth. I expect an official press release/announcement from the BBC very shortly.

I'm thinking it's the children who were (maybe ) taken in 1965.

Does anyone know if it is true that Jack is to be revealed as a father? Maybe one of the kids is his?

What I would like to find out is what happened in those 2 missing years. It's kinda like Who really in that it doesn't matter one jot whether we find out or not, but it's just something I'm curious about.

Spoiler
It's revealed that Jack is the father of Alice - who's an adult in her 30's - and that he has a grandson named Stephen. We don't have any more details at the moment, except that Alice doesn't have a close relationship with her father.

We're also introduced to Ianto's niece and nephew, who are the children belonging to his sister Rhiannon.

Can't wait for this to start as series 2 was fantastic. Series 1 had a few bad episodes but end of days wasn't too bad.

Spoiler
if the rumours that jack does indeed have children is true, will they also not be albe to die like jack?

Spoiler
The rumour is true. The actress who plays Alice - Lucy Cohu - let slip that she was playing Jack's daughter during a Saturday Kitchen type programme. There's been no rumours about her being immortal though and it looks like her mother - who's now dead according to Lucy - was a normal woman from the 1970's.

Torchwood will keep me going for a bit. All my favourite programmes are ending round about now, so it's good to have something to look forward too Something to bridge the gap, even if it's just for a week, between the US TV season.
