If you mean the ones that come in a shell, I've not tried them. Never had the inclination. Same with mussels and oysters .....ugh!

Don't mind the other 'scallop' (battered potato slices) .

Love scallops but my purse won't stretch to buying them on a regular basis - just now and again as a special treat! pan fried with minted pea puree - delicious!

Here 'Oop North' a scallop is also a thickish slice of potato battered and fried from the local chippy (pretty nice they can be too). The first time I had 'proper' scallops was at a very posh theatre party and I was pretty surprised!

( I too could very easily form an addiction to them. Yum yum!)

Do you not have potato scallops where you are?

Most northern chippies do them.

I suppose they are potato fritters really.

It far easier asking for a scallop butty than a potato fritter butty though!

I used to love a 10p potato Scallop from the chippy years ago...

As for the real thing, I used to love them, when they were prepared 'ready to eat' if you like. My hobby now is Scuba Diving and, most divers I know like to collect them from the sea-bed & fry them up back on the surface. They look DISGUSTING when you open the shell, and I'd rather see them bobbing along on the sea-bed...Same goes for crab and lobsters

They call them "slices" round here.

I adore them too but the price hinders me eating them on a daily basis. I heard they are very high in cholesterol though so be careful.

I highly recommend Gordon Ramsey's recipe for them on cauliflower puree with a caper sauce. (Sunday lunch book).

I'm not sure where you heard that, but as far as I know Scallops have very low cholesterol.

I live down south and they're called potato scallops here. They also had them in several chippies that I came across in Australia!

On the original scallop subject, thin slices of fried black pudding on the side works wonderfully well. Congrats to the person who first thought of putting those two ingredients together.

I tried Scollops for the first time over the weekend. I have seen them on cooking progs and they always look nice. I know they are expensive too.

Soooo.... I got a few from Asda and cooked them for 4 mins per side on a medium heat in some olive oil. I hear that any more and they turn to rubber.

Anyway, I have to say that they were very mediocre. Not much flavour, rather bland. I Tried them with some sweet chilli sauce and they were still "so so".

Don't think I will bother again.

Try eating them at a good restaurant, hard to judge anything when it's not been cooked professionally.

I sadly became allergic to scallops about 15 years ago.
Every time I try them I throw up.
I would love to be able to eat them again

Tried them at the 'best fish restaurant' in Queensland, Oz.

Still spit them out.
