Help! Pet rat got my zopiclone pill
Scarlett Minx

Max, one of my boy rats, was a clever little sod and found the little white pill that I've put aside to take at 9.50pm (sods law - I don't take them very often).

There are nibble marks, but also white flakes on the sofa where he was nibbling it, so hopefully he hasn't swallowed any but surely some of it must rub off on him? It tastes disgusting so I'm sure he didn't have much but I really don't know what to do.

My other rat, Paddy, is the poorly one so thankfully he didn't get it.

Panic!!!!!!

Shouldn't do him any harm given that he has hardly had any - worst case would be that he will fall asleep for a while (I am right in thinking its a sleeping pill?)

Sorry, yes, I should have said its a sleeping pill.

He seems okay at the moment (washing!), I was just really worried that his tiny body would ingest it and harm him.

Fingers crossed he just sleeps a bit heavier tonight.

He's just about to climb over my laptop so its not hit him yet.....

I'd guess one of his cousins would have tested it before it was released to us.

Yeah thanks for that.....

It would most likely have been tested on rats at some point, so call the number on the leaflet the pills came with or your emergency vet. Toxicity in rats will most likely be a known quantity.

Well I kept an eye on him and if anything, the little monkey was more bouncy than normal!

This morning he seemed absolutely fine, thankfully. The bitter taste of the pill probably put him off from further investigation.

I am taking Paddy to the vet tomorrow, so will mention it to the vet then.
