What is wrong with Madonna?

I don't understand it. I think her new album is excellent and the new single is great too.

So why is no one interested in her new material? Is it not getting a lot of air play? I've only seen the video once and the single has charted already.

Very confused. What does everyone think of American life?

I have virtually all Madonna's albums but I haven't got American Life as I simply wasn't impressed with the singles released so far. I think she has gone too far with all this dance/electronic music and lost sight of her pop sensibilities. She is a pop star who should make pop songs.

I'm still a fan of hers but perhaps her time at a relevent contempoary artist is over. She has had 20 years at the top and thats really the maximum life span of any pop career.

Didn't like Madonna's early songs (but she was absolutely gorgeous, so that made up for it).

Did like her late 80s, early 90s stuff (La Isla Bonita, Like a Prayer, Justify My Love, Vogue etc).

Don't much like the more recent stuff she's produced.

i guess its a cyclical thing with madonna - i don't think there was much going on with some of her other albums - eg *true blue*, *erotica*, *bedtime stories* - but then she comes back with an album there's for whatever reason, hopefully better songs, more of a general positive vibe about - eg *like a prayer*, *ray of light* and *music*.

presumably come her next album, it'll all be *madonna returns to her pop sensibilities....* type stuff.

I really like her latest single - and have seen the video loads on Sky which is brilliantly shot.

Im not a huge fan of hers, but i like this one very much.

None of the songs sound like dance music to me.

All I can say for her is that with every album she goes further and she always brings you something different.

American Life is an excellent album and if people won't even listen to music nowadays just because it is different and perhaps a little experimental then it really sums up the whole argument of why the charts are filled with cover versions.

There are other types of music on Madonnas album it's not all "dance" music (in my opinion none of it is dance music).

Her new album is just too weak, no explosive hooks or catchy melodies. She always progressed well up until bedtime stories but since then it's been pretty average.

i really liked her early albums 2. the last few albums have been oki dokie, but no where near as good as vogue, etc. no wonder her new stuff isn't on da radio much these days as she's had no hits.

True Blue and Like A Prayer. Just out of interest why isn't the single True Blue included on the immaculate collection?

Her current single wasn't a hit on commerical radio, and thats most likely the reason for it's downfall. American Life is just to much like Music.

It doesn't make it a bad album if it wasn't a hit on commercial radio, it was bad anyway cuz madonna was trying to look cool and fell flat on her arse.

True blue was a pretty weak record but compared to borderline it brilliant.

i've never liked madonna! she's far to over-hyped like michael jackson. i think pink's miles more talented than her. and debbie harry in blondie definately was!

i may be on me own on this but i'm happy like tht lol

I liked Madonna when she was pure uncomplicated pop, before people started taking her seriously as an "artist".

The key problem with 'American Life' is that it's far too similar to 'Music', and it's not an exciting new phase for Madonna in the same was that 'Ray Of Light' was, for example.

She shouldn't have used Mirwais as producer on the latest album, she should have taken some genuine risks.

Pink may be more talent but Madonna has far more star-quality.

As for MJ, OK he's a suspected kiddy-fiddler but that doesn't mean that he wasn't the most talented entertainter that ever lived.

If you want proof, don't look at the stuff he did as an adult but watch/listen to his stuff when he was 11 in the Jackson 5. On a ballad like 'I'll be there', he expressed emotion and feeling that Mariah Carey can only dream about. If you've seen an 11 year-old perform the way that he did, I'll eat my hat!

I'm sorry but I beg to differ. Michael Jackson did not write this song, and it is my opinion that "I'll be there" was sung better the second time, if only for the reason that it didn't sound stupid being sung by Trey Lorenz and Mariah Carey.

I'll Be There, along with Hero, is about the only thing I've ever liked by Mariah Carey.

As for Madonna... She's been around for years now, and has exactly the same amount of talent she did when she started... Very little.

IMHO "Ray of Light" was brilliant (no joke intended ) but she can't be a rock star cuz she takes herself too seriously. Fancy objecting to being called "Madge"!
She must be the "mature" side of 40 by now so I'm surprised no-one calls her "Auntie Madge"......
