Subtitles with BBC
Hthebloke2
07-05-2009
Hi,

Living on the wrong side of the channel/North Sea I have a need for subtitles. The present Mrs Hthebloke2 feels she has the need for subtitles for certain programmes. Last night was apprentice night and the bloke from Durham is barely understandable for a brit let alone Johnny foreigner. When we went for the subtitles, there was nothing. I changed channel and all was well on non BBC.

Was there a problem with BBC or is it the Humax? Why the Humax, well because we retired to another part of "Chateau Hthebloke" and our Sky box had subtitles.

Please don't let this be the first problem that I have had with the box?

Any answers?

Subtitles are a complete cluster-f*** on the Humax.

I have wondered why there are so many programmes that are listed as having subtitles and for which the dialog box comes up (as opposed to the behaviour when there are supposed to be no subtitles), but after selecting English, none appear.

I had put it down to a fault on the part of the broadcasters but, now you mention it, it does seem a lot more frequent than it ever did with a Sky box.

So it appears that this may be a fault with the box.

I now wonder if all the out of synch subtitles are a box problem because, again after giving it some thought, I can only ever remember that happening once (on Sky and analogue) before I got the Humax.

Please remember that the signaling for pointing to the Subtitles stream is different on Freesat than Sky. I can't say why this happened but I will keep an eye on it.

Thanks Bob. So far it has been perfect but for the last 10 days the subtitle side of things has been a bit iffy. ITV the subtitles are a few seconds ahead of the speech, and BBC they seem to have dissapeared altogether. Could it be an LNB thing............. No. Too many people have mentioned the out of sync for ITV.

I am counting on you "Cat person" as It becomes a bit tedious explaining what the actor said a few jiffy's before.
