All the music I have bought off itunes is AAC formats, how can I convert these to mp3. Only ask because my car CD/USB port plays mp3 only. Iwant to play them directly from the ipod if possible. Advice please?

Try SUPER ©.
It converts files into almost everthing you will ever need and its free.

If you set your Rip Format to MP3, under Edit>Preferences>Import Settings, then you can right click on the songs and go to "Create MP3 Version"

This is all within iTunes by the way.

You can do it in iTunes. Just go to preferences, change your import preferences to be MP3. THen you can right click on any track and get the option 'Convert to MP3'. Note this will only work with non-protected tracks (ie those in iTunes Plus format) - other store downloads can't be converted (without burning to a CD and importing or some similarly convoluted way).

You can't play direct from the iPod via USB AFAIK.

If your car stereo had a line-in port (like a headphone socket) then it'd be much simpler, just playing music directly from the iPod and not worrying about formats. If it's got USB then it should have line-in, I'd have thought.

You can't.

Convert protected AACs to anything else, that is - they can only be read by the iTunes/iPod they're assigned to.

If they aren't protected, you can use Super (which is good, but a tad weird at times), dbPowerAmp, or a variety of other convertors.

Yes you can - burn them to an audio CD, then rip it back as mp3.

Does your car stereo also have an aux. input because you then simply save yourself time and use one of these. http://www.griffintechnology.com/products/autopilot

I use it in my car and the sound quality is even better than going from the headphone output of the ipod to the aux. of the car stereo as it connector connects through the the dock connection which charges it at the same time. You'll also have the same interface as your ipod because you'll, of course, be using your ipod.

Here are 2 other variations of the same set up.
