Samsung Plasma - Best connection
Hi,
I'm a bit new to all this be gentle....I would like some advice and recommendations whould be great... I have purchased a 42" Samsung plasma and this is connected to a Telewest digital decoder, Philips DVD, PS2 and a Gamecube. The Telewest decoder is connected via AV1 (RGB Scart), using a gold plated cambridge audio scart cable as is the DVD player (to AV2) however the picture quality can be a bit iffy from the Telewest decoder. (DVD, PS2 and GC all ok) I have been told that getting better scart cables will make a huge difference but can anyone give me any pointers (makes, etc). Budget is quite flexible and I'm willing to spend money if the results are clearly visible. Thanks in advance. Jim

Yeah, I've done that and it is.
The picture from the DVD player is fine and from the PS2 and the Gamecube (connected via S-Video) I Originally bought the Cambridge audio scart cables (£10 from richer sounds) to correct an image problem on my previous TV (which they did) Obviously I don't want to go out and spend £40 - £80 on another scart lead if it's not going to make any difference. Have you tried connecting the telewest to AV2 via the other scart lead?
it may well be just that the picture from the telewst isn't that great and being on a 42 inch tele shows it up. |

Hi,
Yeah, I've tried connecting via the other cable but it's still the same. I had considered that maybe it wasn't the cables and more down to the Telewest box I think really I was just sounding people out on whether replacing the leads with higher quality ones would yield any improvement or was it just marketing bull. I appreciate the viewing at 42" is likely to emphasise picture problems I'm just trying to minimise that as much as possible. Thanks for the advice, keep it coming....

To get the best picture quality on a digital display such as a plasma you need a digital connection: DVI (video only) or HDMI (DVI + digital audio in a single cable). Check your plasma screen to see if it has a DVI/HDMI port (not all do). For more info on DVI, look here.
At the moment DVI/HDMI connections are only found on a few DVD players; I doubt your Telewest box has one. But most digital boxes will support it in the future. |

You could try adding something like a Iscan Pro which will deinterlace the picture, this may possibly help but will cost arround £450
