Baked potatoes: crispy skin or not?
I personally love my baked potato done in the oven for a good hour so the skin is hard and crispy. I actually enjoy the skin more than the inside!
My OH likes hers done in the microwave so the skin is insipid (yuk) What are your opinions guys??? |

I hate the skins of baked potatoes! I scoop out the middle and leave it, microwaved or oven baked

Crispy skins are top! Wipe the tatties with olive oil or even milk before putting them in the oven to get nice ones.

Crispy!
I can not stand jacket tatties that have been entirely cooked in the microwave. I tend to start them of in the micro, then put them in the oven to finish of and crisp up. |

Part of the reason I don't do jacket spuds is the fact that they take so long to do.
I'd love crispy skins but they involve an hour in the oven and taking into consideration I live alone, I just can't fire up the oven for an hour for one potato - there's a credit crunch apparently. |

Apart from in Summer the oven heat is useful in heating the house though so it doesn't get wasted.
And it's not the most efficient use of energy if we're being honest. My microwave 'jacket' spuds are simply not what I want - it's been ages since I had a truly awesome jacket potato with a proper hard crusty skin. |

Crispy! I won't eat microwaved rubbish, it's got to be oven crispy and delicious.

The skin is the best part of the potato.
I put them in the microwave for about 6-8 minutes depending on size. Then coat with olive oil and sprinkle sea salt then 20-30 minutes in the oven, again depending on size. It gives a really nice crispy skin. |

Of course the best way to do them is to wrap them in tinfoil and cook them in the embers of a bonfire.

Crispy skins are good, not that I have an aversion to non-crispy skins.
Quickest way I know is to microwave them, then pop them in the oven for 15 minutes to crisp. |

I like my skin crispy, so wrap the potato in tinfoil and cook it in the oven for approx 2 hours for a small pot.

I have a raybrun so I make them in the oven.
Key to my method is putting the potato in a tin with a little water in the bottom - this prevents it from drying out while baking. The top goes crispy, and you've still a moist potato inside. |

Cook 'em for an hour, cut in half, scoop out potato. Mix in chopped spring onions, cheddar cheese, some crumbled up crispy bacon, some butter and salt & pepper. Pile back in the halved skins, drizzle with a little olive oil, back in a hot oven for 25 minutes and you have the finest baked potatoes in the world!!!!!
