Music channels
TMF
The Box 4Music All played the exact same song La Roux - In For The Kill. It says alot about music channels on sky these days? Plus they actually all sit next to each other so try flicking three channels to find the same song.

Most of the music channels on sky these days are dissapointing and boring to watch because they all play the same overplayed trash all day everyday.
Although the only channel that seems to show effort these days is VH1 with a great mix of the 80's 90's and now perfect format for a music channel. Another Channel that is slightly improving is MTV Dance i saw 7 trance songs in a row today followed by 4 dance classics i aint seen in a long time

It's a great channel VH1 Classic has the more obscure music but you can find a bit of everything on VH1. |

The UK is missing a well presented, contemporary looking music channel like Deluxe Music in Germany - now I'm not saying the music content is 100% but the presentation of the channel is.

Agreed most music channels play chart music which in most cases is crap maybe Im getting older but I like a wider variety of music. Although they are some channels like Vault,Bliss or NME that try to provide alternative music but most play the same stuff over and over. MTV Europe played a good variety of music and programmes from america and the rest of europe as did VH1 but when it changed to MTV UK all it concentrated on was uk chart music. Most stations that are created for the UK are usually doomed because they don't have the style of the original US channels. MTV America and Europe are great as is CMT but their UK versions are not that great and fail because there far removed from their original counterparts.
We do need music channels that provide different genre's of music or one good channel that provides Blues, country, real rock n pop music currently not available in the UK and NO MANIFACTURED CHART CRAP. ![]() Sometimes good music gets in the chart but not often. I suppose chart music bring's viewers and money to a station and alternative music may not.

If i launched 3 music channels on Sky i would do it like this:
The Beat Nothing But Dance Music 24/7 covering just the best dance genres from Trance to House , Ambient and Underground Dance Music Culture. Could offer dance fans something different and better to Flaunt , MTV Dance , which would offer less commercial (and More Underground). Jukebox TV All the best tunes from the 80's , 90's and Now choosen by you entirely. Something like VH1 Europe but more interactive that viewers can vote via the red button , text . Trax TV Nothing but the freshest tunes before they hit the charts. Like the old B4 format which was entirely focused on fresh music before any other channel . |

, that is of course if they ever planned to launch in the uk.However though pointing the dish to 19.2 degrees east would be a safe bet. Never tried though would a sky box pick it up though without having to go and buy a box that will?. |

There used to be a jukebox channel on sky in the late 80s to mid 90s which broadcast on the Lifestyle channel at night. People would phone in and choose the song they wanted to hear. I guess when the Lifestyle channel left Jukebox went with it.
![]() I think Lifestyle was replaced with Living. |

i think you have to have a balance.
i think there's a need for a channel to play continuous, uninterrupted music but there's also a need for presenters as well. I love listening to Zane Lowe on Radio 1 because his enthusiasm for music is incredibly infectious, but if i'm watching music TV, i find myself preferring something like Chart Show TV on Sky because of the lack of presenters. If I want to watch a "proper" music show with interviews and presenters then i'll find one - probably on VH1. |

I see Sky are running ads for the music pack. First time I've seen Sky pushing the music package.
Still is it worth paying for when there's still about 10 half decent FTA music channels? |

Anyone remember the early days of B4 from when it first launched in 2004 , i quite miss it to be honest i always remember when it was the only channel that got tracks 3 weeks before any other music channel got them.
Shame they did away with the Stamp logo and graphics in 2006 to be replaced by that hideous orange logo that was introduced back then i think in the end they were right to replace it with something else because it went downhill alot during late 2007. I not long ago cancelled my Sky Music Mix due to them all being so bad and playing the same stuff over and over i make do with Flaunt or The Vault for now when it comes the watching music videos on television , The Vault IMO is the best music channel on Sky reminds me of what MTV/VH1 used to be like years ago. |

I love fantasy channel launches
:Abbey Road A channel devoted to music from the 60s, 70s and early 80s, along with music concerts and documentaries such as Live from Abbey Road, etc. Sound Station A channel devoted to hard rock, indie and the occassional heavy metal. Radiowave A channel devoted to round-the-clock current music, excluding RnB as the director general hates this crap.

So is the Music pack worth paying for these days?
MTVR, MTV, MTV+1, MTV Base, MTV Dance, MTV Hits, MTV TWO, VH1, VH1 Classic, The Box, Smash Hits, 4Music, Q, Kerrang, Kiss, Magic, Music Choice, MTVNHD (HD pack only) = 18 channels. Vs VIVA, 4Music (Freeview only), Chart Show TV, The Vault, Flava, Bliss, Scuzz, Flaunt, NME TV, Clubland TV, Channel AKA, Channel Starz, Rockworld TV, Omusic TV. = 14 channels. |

I have no interest in the programming output of MTV, so my tastes are covered by everything else. when i originally had sky, and had the music mix, i found myself watching the FTA stuff much more anyway. |

Last week I decided to add another mix to my package and briefly considered the music mix, but with the amount of free channels available it really isn't worth IMO.

Why would they want to play the same "song" (La Roux sounds like she's just sat on a cactus plant!) three times? One night (think it was a Tuesday) I was flickin through the few music channels I have left and they were playing Remedy by Little Boots on two different channels at the same time. Now I like the song (and is the most overplayed on my Ipod) but why play it on two channels at the same time?
