It's much better as an FTA entertainment channel anyway and is more aimed at university students.

Gosh that's funny. Viacom improving something? When did that last happen?

The fact that certain people get excited over the showing of a 10 year old pop video shows how standards have fallen.

viacom is on the way down in germany. next month, MTV Live HD leaves all plattforms, MTV HD goes from Sky to HD+ (arrrgh), the thematic music channels are gone from most of the (cable-)plattforms too. i think MTV unlimited will go by the end of the year. the channels (rocks, dance ect) have gone further downhill since the add-breaks have gone. wavegoodbyecom...

The fact music videos are being made in HD I see no reason why they would axe HD.

It's shocking so few music channels are HD. Can only assume it's the cheap option to just go for SD. Only Viacom have the millions to have HD.

If only Sky still ran music music channels no doubt all three would be HD by now.

Interesting to see MTV HD will be going free to air in Germany.

Quote:
“"Sky Deutschland and Viacom International Media Networks have reached a mutual agreement not to renew the licence deal for the distribution of MTV HD and MTV Live HD in Germany and Austria,” a Sky spokesman told Broadband TV News. Both channels will remain on Sky until September 1, 2014.

Background: With the move to free-TV platform HD+, Viacom will transform MTV HD from a pay-TV into a free-TV service. The Disney Channel also recently went free-to-air in Germany, leaving the pay-TV market. Like MTV HD, Disney Channel HD is distributed via satellite by HD+.”

I can't imagine that happening to MTV here, but the music channels (except Live) are worthless as pay channels.

Not sure who would get Sky just for MTV anyway it's all reality tv junk.

Similar things have happened in the UK too. E4 went FTA, Bauer, Film Four..

Sky are in a good place now but they relay on sports. BT are edging into that market so who knows where Sky in the UK will be in 10+ years.

It be a good move if they got rid of Teleshopping that would be a start if they are behind a paywall - this also goes for the FTA channels too - we are in 2014 FFS look at 1997 Teleshopping was not around on any of these channels but to be used as shutdown/off air is shameful in my mind - either do a proper closedown or go back 24/7 its laziness

They playing the clever game as they only need about two hours of music a day to stay on the Sky music section.

Music channels today are crap same tunless drivel on loop for endless months. Usually before the songs hit the charts I am sick of hearing them already ala Kiesza - Hideaway.

To think 10 years ago music channels were half decent now we got barely one music channel that plays anything decent , I must be getting old

The English articles keep saying it will be free to air, they must be misunderstanding.

Also be worth noting here that Sony may close some music channels down for the upcoming launches of Animax and AXN.

Loving Clubland's Countdowns.

Still the same exact order days later even though they are supposedly up to date viewers choices.

Usual Saturday night charts tonight. Saturday nights are the worst.

You're really desperate for Scuzz to close aren't you? Are you sure you're not related to another forum member?

Clubland needs new management badly. The guy who took over a few years ago is clueless.

The music channels are even more repetitive than ever before now.

Worst for this are the dance channels , it's no wonder they get the crappiest viewing figures out of the lot.

The reason must be a lack of new music released , so instead they loop the latest overplayed and most recent videos from the last 24 months which were overplayed even back then only to overplay those same videos again and again , the problem is many songs spend to long in dance charts it makes it all appear extremely stale , boring even.

I dont want to hear Swedish House Mafia , David Guetta , Zedd , Clean Bandit or Calvin Harris , Kiesza , Route 94 , Avicii , Disclosure songs ever again because these are the artists that are always on , no matter what time or day you tune into the dance channels.

It's bad enough the night clubs play the same artists too which makes me want to stay in , oh well at least i'm saving cash every weekend now

With the likes of defunct music channels like VH2 , The Amp , P-Rock which had higher viewing figures and were claimed to be financially unviable than some of the current music channels we have now really baffles me why they are still on air , they have to be huge loss making surely ?

MTV Dance might survive though seeing as it's not costing Viacom very much to run with Teleshopping and the Pay TV revenue keeping the channel on air if the MTV Music channels went FTA they won't have much of a future with many other's being free already will just cause the other viewing figures to drop even more leading to more closures I can see them probably closing the whole lot before long if Sky terminate the subscription contracts with them they pretty much heading for oblivion either way and MTV along with the music add nothing what so ever to the Pay TV package anyway.

Thats the main problem with these channels is the playlists - its like if you try to avoid certain artists they'll still be plugged on other channels (possibly excluding MTV Rocks), to me its the lack of using more of their archived music and performances, ie MTV Live HD - why not upscale past EMA/VMA performances? (or is that saying they too embarassed to show them for some odd reason?) but again that channel too is stuck in a loop and is the only ONE MTV channel not carrying "teleshopping" (its a miracle) but makes a complete mockery of the other channels putting it on including the main channel! Maybe Sky can tell them off to either scrap it or lose EPG(s)? I still can't see how they are making money from teleshopping it baffles me yet back in 90's there was nothing on MTV it was 24/7 but something needs to change

I admit VH2 was not my type of station let alone my music but I am so sick of the repeated stuff as well! Does anyone remember MTV Flux (I think that back VH2 after a while) - they run with some good ideas musically back then but now these days I see it as music is second and reality tv is first (there is such a thing as balancing both sides - but I guess they can't be assed with it and plus MTV networks mostly advertise wait for it .... MTV and nothing more, so whats the purpose of having VH1 then or say MTV Base if all they seem to aim at is the population of UK/Ireland MUST WATCH MTV (caps is the way I see them presenting it to us the viewers), there is next to no advertising on what programming the viewer may take an interest on that channel. Yet VH1 has been able to plaster on top right ie "top 40 at 5pm" whoppee doo dah but ad break its back to go to MTV - MTV needs to get a grip on itself if it thinks its viewers are wanting to watch that ONE channel

The worst thing about the TV Channels is the repetitive charts.

Clubland again just played Classix chart from those chosen via The App - same order as last week - it's complete nonsense, and the app doesn't work. Tried it on other phones in the house and nothing is played.

Heat playing Guilty Pleasure charts - again.

Just quit the charts and play random music.

The other day you said that you saw on the Clubland Facebook page that they get 1000s of requests on the app. That's impossible considering only 1000 people have the app (Look on Google Play) and not everyone can be using the app at the same time.

Worst thing they have ever done - at first these charts were interesting but its predictable - 90's v 00's v 10's Dance off, possibly they will feature tracks of 1988-89 my main gripe with some charts is that they can play some half decent songs but yet they call them "embarassing" .... really and tracks of today ain't?? But the main dig is of course songs in the past its like as if it something they are scared of!

I wouldn't mind "random" music being played but that "random" is the same too - play more music over the last 6 decades! If they can invest in programming they can invest in music.

It wouldn't be unlike Clubland to exaggerate their popularity.

Considering it's obvious they choose the playlist 90% of the time, i'm not surprised at most of the songs that have been 'chosen'.

Still can't get some of the requests i've made played, and others appear to be much later in a programme and i'm sure is actually totally random as opposed to answering my request.

And that is the sad reality of it all - it seems like its as if everyone wants to know this sort of stuff which majority of public couldnt give a toss about but of course its spoonfed to us as usual! They wonder why the audience is dying out on their sister channels - MTV (main) might be lucky its getting viewers but in time people will turn against them

Slightly off topic I heard on news last night Youtube is to give "age" rated against music videos (trialing) supposedly - really?? Why not have a go at the culprits who let the videos through on TV as well or is this another go at the internet??

Today The Box and 4Music were showing the exact same show at the exact same point.

I quite like MTV Summer at the moment, it has quite a good variety.
