I noted the UK TOP 40: 100 of the year so far .... I know it can change but how many times can they get away with "so far" .... you have one say in May and now another one in September whats next November? Just leave it to middle of the year and do a repeat before the end of year chart FFS!
You are complaining about the fact the chart is up to date?

Don't blame me, blame the website that told me - I knew it was 2000 though

Even closer, but still wrong on Bliss' part

EDIT:

Blame me and Bliss - the website I used is right, I read the May 2000 number one she has as well, but Bliss got the year wrong anyway.

In fact, these channels may be right when a year out, especially for American artists who usually release their tracks months earlier in their homeland although that's less so these days.

Baby One More Time for example was a 1998 song, but only released here in 1999 and it would be the same as Born To Make You Happy (99/00) but one assumes they base their info on the UK chart.

It's out of date as soon as it's made.

They play the same chart for 3 months or more and as sales/airplay are taken into account 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, it's out of date straight away.

Can't be helped for say one week, but when they use the same chart for months on end and use it as 'current'...

Only chart countdown that should really be on is the Official UK Top 40, No others.

No I am complaining about how many times do a programme with "so far" have to be on through out the whole year - why not just have a "so far" chart say June and the last one around December than it being what seems to be updated every couple of months beats the point

Agreed.

We currently have 10 forgotten pop faves - all of which get played regularly anyway - Pussy Cat Dolls, Pink etc

To fill slots.

Sadly, these channels just repeat the same charts/shows over and over and over.

To think back when we had MTV/VH1/The Box - MTV only had a "so far" chart mid year and the final one round Christmas time but these days as you rightly say its just to fill slots - maybe they should release slots and do some requests then in place and see what the viewer actually wants? (I know some channels do this) but maybe it can change things?

The worst "chart" I think needs abandoned is "airplay" chart - there is some songs I don't hear let alone see on the channels but they still in it - how is that possible? (songs from 2013 still in)

I don't think they have any interest in what the viewer wants. It's easier and cheaper for them to just keep playing the same charts over and over.

They include radio airplay in their charts too.

Back to years...Britney - Everytime 2003 according to The Vault - don't even need to look it up as it was number one on my Birthday in June 2004.

Funny thing is, they play it on 2004 programmes too.

Isn't it obvious that the reason they play the bloody charts so much, is that they get higher ratings than just playing random music?

Ever since channels starting played back to back charts more frequently, viewing figures have dropped considerably and as very few have any random music programmes, it's no longer possible to be comparable.

The reason they play back to back charts is purely economic with a large dose of laziness and being creatively vacuous.

Although that pretty much sums up most television, to be fair.

I would actually prefer random music to the fake charts that pop up on the channels.

Yet I use to have time for "charts" but these days I can't be that bothered with them - if its cheap to make these charts then what are they blowing the rest of the income they have or is that a pointless question? (no need to answer)

Airplay - Either I ain't tuning in at the times but most songs featured are not played as often where I live

Britney Everytime - how can they get that wrong?! Does anyone at these networks research before hand or is it throwing a coin in the air to say "heads or tails"

The charts are pointless - Top 10 Girls with blonde hair, top 20 fit boys from USA etc etc

Planet Pop have a chart today, top 50 from 2000's, even the announcer has mentioned 'Noughties', but they are playing songs from the last 2/3 years.

You may as well add MTV/Bauer to the list for these pointless charts - Just run the top 40 chart (but not on endlessly on all channels), these channels need more viewer interaction and allow the viewer more control (choose the songs and play them) from the last 50 years. VH1 was at least a half decent channel as MTV was moving with the times but these days its like its being controlled by the same idiots behind MTV.

Top 10 Girls with blonde hair? - is that for real or you pulling my leg?

I wouldn't mind more random music being played on these channels but the playlists are safe and hence why most of the day you get charts and then music (but of course music played is the now and anything before present is shifted to late play or a special weekend)

The cheesy countdowns are so predictable and always have been. It's usually the same songs but in a different order and it's usually just very very mild cheese.

Britney and Backstreet boys are hardly cheesy either.

Is this the only time we get to see some of these old videos? In a way it is still pathetic (I was surprised seeing Lucky on as I ain't seen that in a while), in saying that I wish they made the videos be automatic picture, I hate the widescreen it ruins the videos!

They can make more of an effort and find more obscure songs to playlist

That will require too much work as these channels are on a shoestring budget.

I know someone who used to work in music TV and he says the chart shows do rate higher - and if they just showed random music videos it wouldn't cost them any more money!!

CSC have had Top 10 Blondes and Top 10 Brunettes.

I would suggest that since he left, not knowing when he left aside, that viewing figures have dropped significantly in the recent past, so maybe viewers are turning off because of the increased amount of charts, amongst other music avenues.

Let's assume charts still get higher ratings, although as random music is minimal, their is no easy comparison, then they should maybe try different charts with different artists rather the same charts, often for years - American Heartbreakers on Magic has been on Magic for 2 years, they've just added a voiceover this month for some bizarre reason.

It's not just the charts, it's how many time each chart gets played.

Lack of originality, although if what you say is right, and charts still get more viewers, then it shows how lazy music listeners are these days as well.

Phew

Regarding the "charts" the amount of charts there is on these channels is a bit OTT - its fairly obvious that once they run through the chart your bound to see the same songs played again on another "chart" or in a "programme" (under a different name), why do all these channels actually provide better variety to the playlists (this goes for the likes of Heat, Smash Hits and MTV Hits, MTV Base, MTV Dance), they have the videos there so why not use them more? (or is it because they aint digitised yet?) as for charts I use to like them in the beginning but its got boring with me these days - a chart MTV makes for one of its sister stations eventually turns up on VH1 or vice versa (weird that you think VH1 is meant to be aimed at an older demographic or have they forgotten that?)
