So Freeview viewers will be left with just one music channel, which only shows music during the day!

Surely Chart Show or Capital will go nationwide then?

Won't miss VIVA.

Same VIVA has been a terrible channel right from the start.

One of Spikes own programming is already on CBS:Reality "unsolved mysteries" ... but on the topic ... so VIVA is going under a rebrand (once more from TMF to VIVA to possibly Spike UK) VIVA is hardly a music channel these days its more of an "entertainment" channel so this will mean music by day programming by afternoon/evening is gone and its now an entertainment channel - wonder if they eventually drop the "teleshopping" charade anytime soon?

I thought in beginning VIVA was more of a Comedy Central channel but it killed it for me when they started showing bumpers for MTV as well as showing more MTV programming - surely they could have invested in this channel more ie original content? I will say this though I am glad to a degree that they have not put on The Valleys or Geordie Shore on it

VIVA isn't closing, it will still be on satellite and cable just not Freeview.

Strange move then.

Surely they could have reshuffled C5's channels or atleast show VIVA content on 5*?

Either way seems any music from Viacom won't happen on Freeview now.

Chart Show TV isn't even on Freeview now is it?

VIVA content will move to 5*. VIVA will probably continue as a cut down music channel with maybe any leftover shows that don't fit on 5*.

VH1 schedule for Wednesday 29th October is one of the worst I've seen:

0600 Rise and Shine
0900 Fab 50: Feelgood Anthems!
1100 In Love with 2014: Top 10
1200 50 Songs That Are Better Than Cake
1700 20 Unforgettable Power Ballads
1900 50 Songs That Are Better Than Cake (again)
0000 5 Reasons to Love Beyonce!
0030 5 Reasons to Love Beyonce! (again)
0100 Keep Calm and Wind Down

I hope the Viacom boss tells them to sort out this channel!

Why does VH1 not do a "year" hour ie 1970 - play music from that year and run up to today

How the heck can you run 5 reasons to love Beyonce TWICE in the ONE hour? Are they that short on programming?

On SKY/VM its just going to be a wasted channel? They may as well either revamp it or close it - as it this rate there is going to be far too much of these channels (in my opinion), you got VIVA/MTV/Spike (when it launches) so what does VIVA become after it leaves Freeview? If its going to be the same as it is now may as well rename it MTV2 once more and then on Freeview you have Spike (not a music channel) so 4Music you only have? I have the basic freeview I don't have access to more channels via red button or through the box itself so I am up the creek!

I wouldn't be surprised if it eventually closes unless Viacom plan on adding it back to DTT. It's FTV is it not so its not even on proper Freesat more Freesat on Sky?

MTV Music and MTV Hits are also the same surprised the don't revamp them.

Channels go into overdrive with things like X Factor these days - surely be best keeping it to one channel?

They should bring in more European music onto airplay be good or crap something different! I still like "am I wrong" from Nico and Vinz (from Norway) song was/still is fresh air for me musically but we still got this crap dance

I think Vintage should really stick to being Vintage music than anything else - bad enough we have VH1

Charts I barely tune in to them - its not having the same effect on me say 5 years ago, as you know its basically what they played an hour or so and is back on (again) - ie top 10 videos of this week (ie on now) next uk top 40 oh crap and what we just viewed!

Labels and management of these channels have alot to answer for, pity when the royalties debate was happening I was genuinely worried but knowing what these channels have become I rather wish it slipped through as its same crap on a loop nothing new or obscure comes through - if its obscure expect a one time play expect next time shown in 2 years time

I know its passed watershed at 9pm but I heard a song on MTV Base mention "pussy" pity they don't play "pussy" at 9am instead lol”

Classic only I would imagine. Vault had it again today.

European music would be interesting. Not sure which current channel would do that. CS Dance for dance and for pop.....probably CS Dance

Official Charts were ruined when they allowed downloads. I know it was the way forward, but it opened up abuse. Now they have allowed streaming as well, it will be abused no end.

The music industry is a case of if the face fits. Celebrity full stop. The other day they had Leo Di Caprio doing something for something serious, I forget what - they only out it on Heat News as they thought he was 'hot' not because of the cause.

Some NZ/Aus guy was in court for drink driving a few months ago. They reported the story as they thought he looked hot in court - wtf?

What's wrong with pussy? Surely that's a cat - right?

Today's Music TV news:

Clubland had Todays top 30 anthems chosen on the app - erm, wrong day, none of the 'anthems' were played today as it was Classix day.

But the award for most useless channel today, goes to MTV Classic

An hour of the best MTV EMA perfomers of the 90's. So, what did they do - play those performances? The performances that they should have in their archive.....nope, they just played the videos of the songs, not the MTV EMA performances - d'oh!

What a truly pathetic lineup. The same 5 hour programme twice in one day and the same Beyonce programme back to back.

Is this 100% as the Fab 50 at 9.00 only has 2 hours to show 50 songs?

This evening I have seen on Vintage TV Diana Ross "My Old Piano" I have never ever heard this song before and yesterday Crystal Gayle "Don't It Make Your Brown Eyes Blue".

Whether you like this type of music or not it is the only music channel offering a complete variety of music if they went properly to Freeview I am sure the ratings would go through the roof.

MTV Live HD at times is exactly like those 2 you listed apart from showing the "pop" LIVE performances ... this is another channel that needs an overhaul. Out of the MTV family (musically) we have ONE HD channel ... ONE HD Entertainment channel ... where is VH1 HD or why not the others getting HD? Or is that due to costs and no plans on doing it?

If VIVA is taking some of Channel 5/5* programming then why keep 5* ? It seems at the moment its a mess - they have ideas but they need to sort it all out, I assume in coming months it will make sense

Oh I agree with you, on VM I usually watch Vintage and it shows some songs either I do remember or in most cases no clue , I just find it sad that VH1 use to be on the ball musically but these days its like watching MTV all over again with the bumpers they put on!

If Vintage came to Freeview I would watch it - but I can't see it for the time being

I didn't mind charts in beginning but these days its gone OTT - streaming/downloading charts why? Again it goes back to the usual "playlists" what you seen on a countdown or was played earlier is likely to be played again once more

Seriously did Heat report that? Wow ... I don't know about the radio station but again they need to get a grip doesn't matter if the person is "hot" totally beats the point in my mind

Whenever I think of the lyric "pussy" I think back to "are you being served" and "mrs slocombe" talking about her pussy

Come again MTV Classic - EMA Performers of the 90's but play the music videos and not the LIVE performances? Possibly they are lost in the archive or they can't be bothered to digitise them? Or they don't want to show the old MTV logo (Madonna in particular)

VH1 - does not surprise me these days, I was hoping after its long awaited revamp be something new and exciting but its went back to the year 2008 all over again
