It will be controlled by Channel 5 people instead of the clueless people that operate VIVA. But this will mean Freeview will be down to just one music video channel.”

VIVA stopped being a 100% music channel way before it rebranded, TMF used to show a lot of MTV shows and films.

Thats the only thing worth watching on there or Ren/Stimpy and if you like Peep Show - but its just another Channel 4 Gold channel by night after Car Crash TV aka Kimye - surprised that Father Ted has not appeared on there yet (I know its repeated on More 4) but I am sure that would "liven" up 4Music

Reality is definately the MTV thing alongside ITV - I noted Channel 5 advertised Geordie Shore for MTV last night (great another channel advertising MTV garbage! ... how many is that now we need to tell us to go to MTV? Why not advertise VH1 sometime?)

Why do that especially in these charts - same artists on repeat? Again the term "dance" what exactly is it these days? Obvious from outset dance is not the way we know it

I downloaded that song ... well it was the extended mix of it .... still like it I admit but I would say 2009-10 is when "dance" completely changed - then seemed like everyone jumped the bandwagon

Yes I agree, they play songs that I didn't even know they had a video for! I'm glad it does well this USP was a massive open goal waiting to be filled and they've done so.

Whoever runs the other struggling music channels that play the same shyte over and over again don't know what they are doing!

And if there's any money in this game, why doesn't the hugely successful Smooth FM launch a Music Video channel? Sure it could own the dire Magic.

I also seen Channel 5 trailers on VIVA and VH1 so that is at least working vice versa.

I like that Neighbours is starting to get big in the UK again, it has a new production team on board who know the show, and I liked that there was tornado trailers on Viva. They've even got Lauren Carpenter, Brad Willis, Paul and Lucy Robinson and The Waterhole back.

Back to the music thingy though. Freeview badly needs Heat, Vintage or Heart. They are the only stations that play a good variety of music and are mostly music. I know the Vault has good music but they can be repetitive if kept on all the time.

4 music should rename itself or go back to just music. Spike should be taken out of the music section and be placed in Entertainment & reality section.

Does anybody remember UKPlay? It was launched from the start as a mixed music and entertainment / comedy channel and you weren't disappointed by it. It was placed in the EPG quite near Sky 1, BBC 1, UK horizons etc. That managed to get it right. It didn't dress itself up as one or the other. It was kept away from VH1, The Box etc.

Yes, I remember UK Play. At first it was in the music section on Sky, but then rebranded as "Play UK" and moved to Entertainment. They had a show called TOTP @ Play for a while, a spin off from Top of The Pops which was kind of like MTV Select.

Vintage would be a good channel for Freeview. Now as MTV Classic doesn't play anything from before 1990, it's one of the few places to see older videos. Plus it has presenter led shows and doesn't do silly themed charts so that instantly makes it better than most other music channels.

On another note, I think VH1 may have changed programmers recenty. Some of the music during the morning "Rise & Shine" slot is very slow and downbeat now. It's enough to send you back to sleep. Where have all the lively, upbeat tracks gone?!

But lets remember though when was the last time we ever seen a trailer for anything VH1? Your more likely to get trailers for the other channels ie VIVA/MTV and possibly Comedy Central but VH1 is heavily ignored

UK Play also took on MTV (in a way) with their own request show - the other thing I liked with UK Play was a show called "Joy of Decks" basically 15 mins of songs back to back (possibly another MTV idea they used) but look who is doing it these days Bauer! (the Bauer mixes on 4Music/Kiss do nothing for me these days either!)

The Phone Zone! I loved that. Used to flick between that and MTV Select when I came in from school.

Is that what it was called? Was it Scott Mills/Josie D'Arby that presented it along with many others? I think it ran at same time as Select which I believe was 4-6pm? I am sure then on Friday/Saturday Nights Joy Of Decks followed ie 7pm Fridays, Saturdays maybe same time or bit later

I don't really watch 4music to be honest. It's just like MTV

It would be nice if they advertised music, but reality seems to be the in thing.

Dance is whatever firs the artists they overplay. I remember when Rihanna was overplayed even more than she was now and they were doing US star charts. Every American Rihanna collaborated with, they'd play that song, just to get her in the programme as she's not American.

Dance has changed again this year. It's gone from urban dance to some strange kind of dull dance with little life to it.

I don't think their is much money in this game, hence the lack of anything but the same playlists on repeat.

MTV Flux was way ahead of it's time and if it launched today with Twitter, Facebook, Apps, Snapchat, Vine and Instagram around it or a similar type of channel would probably work very well.

But the companies don't seem to realise that all these ways of interacting would be great for their channels. BuzMusik failed because they didn't really do it very well, Clubland & AKA's app selections aren't advertised very well and Starz is still using an outed £1 per text service.

Possibly.

It would work better if MTV wasn't subscription as well.

Buz was poor. The screen was just too small. Starz, not that I text often, usually only at Christmas when nobody else plays Cascada,. only charge me 50p.

Clubland played a chart today and I swear it wasn't different to the same chart title from the other day and it was a different chart they'd played before with a different name, judging by what I remember. Will check it out later on DVD recordings.

My mistake - I was thinking of Eurodance Hottest 100.

Silly me to think Clubland would change a chart.

Why does MTV then not scrap one of these channels and revive this? I remember Flux pretty well it was a channel aimed at people using Youtube? I remember maybe pranks were highlighted(?) then it just went off air - channels to convert to make this if it happened - MTV Music or MTV Live

Do you not get the feeling that when these channels ask for viewer interaction they expect people to jump to their tune? Say you requested a song from the 70's on a more up to date music channel your possibly more likely told choose another someone more of "today"

Heck it was the channel that had programming that featured David Walliams in Rock Profiles http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0220931/...nm_flmg_act_22

MTV Flux was more of a hi-tech channel to me with its on screen graphics and I mentioned above it played Youtube clips

UK Play closed in 2002. Before that, it started in the Music section but later moved to Entertainment, even though it had a lot more music than VIVA and 4Music have today!

Yes, yes I do.

Equality law means my wife is the boss, labour law means my kids do the washing up and family law means it's my fault for starting the family so i'm the one that has to sort any mess out.

Do I sound like her?

Like most songs these days but people tell us they are classics or future classics...apparently.

Was watching a 00's programme earlier and saw Kesha and said "she's never from the noughties" but she is....2009....5 years of Kesha. Where does time go?

You forgot to also mention the new term to "old skool" songs from 00's have been listed under that how the heck can a song from 15 years ago be classed as "old skool" maybe 20-30 years then

2009? wow is that when she came about? Heck I remember "dirty picture" with Taio Cruz but surely they could have researched that properly? According to wiki it states that correctly 2009 she was the vocalist in Flo-Rida "Right Round" (also featured vocals of Katy Perry too I believe) but 2010 is supposedly when she came about with her debut album but technically she is 10's than 00's!

Programme in question baffles me - "She's never from the 00's" sounds like a programme meant to feature more of this decade than the 00's? Yet its featuring songs/artists of that decade?
