Basically a load of rubbish. VH1 RIP

Bubble Hits was brilliant. Crap when it rained, but you never knew what the next song would be current or old

The other day they had "1D happy to top the charts" - I thought they'd be devastated!

Clubland overplaying Tulisa at the moment. New song is shocking and she looks shocking, but that's another story.

Tulisa, Clubland Megamix and Alesso ft Tove Lo are the three obsessions on there, although the latter is quite good.

CS Dance tonight have In The Mix, Olly Murs, The Wanted, Beyonce, The Saturdays. They have gone to Xmas but I have yet to hear a Xmas song.

May be a good idea for Viacom will close MTV Live down for Five Star HD or Spike TV HD and its SD slot replaced by Channel 5+2.

Why MTV Live? It's the only HD service from MTV. Best close MTV Hits or MTV Music as these channels are essentially the same.

Why don't they just scrap MTV Live altogether and replace it with MTV Music HD and put all the live/pre recorded footage on there instead.

Technically speaking MTV have 2 "HD" channels the Live and their main MTV - suggestion for MTV Live HD - scrap the advertising of MTV on its main channel as well, let these channels actually breathe for themselves!

Why not have a VH1 HD? We still waiting on that to come to our shores yet in the US I believe VH1 is already in HD - seems more like Viacom/MTV UK are keen that their MTV channels have higher priority in HD

As for MTV Live itself its basically turned more into another MTV Hits/Music channel these days surprised "the official UK top 40/20" has not edged its way on there yet! - Irony of it all is this is their only channel free from "teleshopping" but at same time we have to contend with MTV (main) ads on screen

For premium music channels MTV is incredibly poor value.

For those wondering what happened to the MTV Trax interactive service.

It's now an app for smartphones and it's similar to Spotify. It's not a bad app but the music is poor.

Premium? How the heck can it be Premium when they have "teleshopping" on their channels, may as well put them all Free to Air then but then again do I really want "teleshopping" appearing more hmmm nah!

MTV ain't worth it these days and neither are the Bauer channels (Vintage is the ONLY station I'd rather keep) but why are Sky/VM not asking this lot questions regarding the content they are playing?

I think Vintage TV was a recent channel added to VM within the last year since the removal of MTV Classic (no real idea what happened on that) but I presume subscribers must have complained in lack of "vintage" music since removal and this is what VM customers got, yet most of the time I watch that channel it reminds me of the way VH1 use to operate totally baffles me (nothing against Vintage TV of course)

Who knows.

Youtube is 1080p for music videos so if you have a smart tv or something enjoy there. Watching anything on music channels looks scaled down and poor sound hence why I rarely watch music videos. I'm sure I read Youtube is doing well with the younger generation so I reckon these music channels won't see another decade out.

I'd close all of MTV, aside Classic.

They are so full of their own self importance, yer are incredibly poor.

Realistically

MTV Base
MTV Hits
MTV Dance (but focus on dance)
MTV Rocks (but focus on rock and not George Ezra)
MTV Classic

And that is it.

MTV Music, VH1, MTV Live put out of their misery, Viva moved and the channels removed from being 'premium'.

While I will agree with all you have said but surely it be alot easier just to revert back to the old "analogue" days with these channels?

Bring back MTV as in Music Television (and have shows in between if its a must)
VH1 - your basic classic channel
The Box - when it was interactive to what we got now

I think these days the only channel that has more "self importance" is that of MTV - where are the shared ads of their other channels be MTV Dance/VH1 etc?

channels I would basically scrap if I am 100% out of the Viacom family is....

MTV Hits/MTV Music/MTV Live (keep ONE and make it HD)
MTV Dance/MTV Base - either concentrate on actual dance music and hip hop and r&b than the "poppy" stuff - I seen a couple nights ago MTV Dance played Cheryl - I don't care (remix) on the channel , these channels cause more confusion for the viewer than anything else as to what they stand for
MTV Rocks - rename it back MTV2 and make the channel concentrate on Rock and Alternative music
I would also suggest scrapping the amount of "charts" these channels run - make half decent programming and have ONE chart for the channel as well as bring it back being 24/7 but as someone suggested it would not surprise me either if closures/merges might happen but we can't keep having the same songs on rotation on all channels its fast became a joke

VH1 playing older music would be a good replacement for MTV Classic. It use to be good in the 90's.

Channel 5 has some music related specials over Xmas which could possibly have been repeated on MTV Classic or VH1, depending on rights.

* Britain's Favourite Christmas Songs
* Michael Buble's Christmas Special
* Michael Jackson: This Is It
* The ABBA Years
* Two Elvis documentaries

Unfortunately, they seem to be unwilling to show anything other than music videos on these channels.

Nessaja

Yes, they play a fair bit of 00's Euro in their classix and Eurodance countdowns/days.

VH1 has been bad for a long time. I'm sure VH1 Classic alongside MTV Classic wouldn't be too bad.

Heat have an issue tonight. Between every song, the voiceover is coming on and announcing the beginning of the show and what's at number 50 - they are then playing the right songs in order, but they do have an announcement issue.

Michael Jackson/The ABBA Years been on Channel 5 before (not exactly new)
Britains Fav Christmas songs (googles it 2011 )
so in other words Channel 5 "musically" are repeating the same stuff they played over last few years and is on at Christmas bah humbug!

The only thing possibly new is Michael Buble (googled the programme) says its part of NBC's Holiday season (so import/shown after US) - most of these programmes listed seem more from Channel 5's back catalogue than Viacom/MTV UK anyway ...

Maybe I haven't seen my lecturer this week but I know she's around She's giving a talk on Wednesday though and I'm going to it. I can't wait for my first Equality Law class with her! I haven't seen much of I'm A Celeb either as I'm hardly at home to watch it and even when I am I don't have much time.

Yeah it probably was just a blip in the system. If they do it again maybe I'll need to set my lecturer on 'em I've had that before. I remember back in April I had been watching Britney v Gaga on VH1 and they cut Slave 4 U off after a minute. I watched it three hours after crying in my lecturer's office so I was not best pleased

So which music channel would they get rid off first for a +2 of Channel 5?

Watched a couple of Christmas Countdowns on 4music today - erm, why are two X-factor #1 singles, and the fak...erm charity single which is a massacre of "You Are Not Alone" from 2009 included plus the suicidal version of "Mad World"? Is this part of Cowell's corruption of including all his songs in this?

Is it a talk on the Planet Pop app?

Old Quickenden is continuing to have shows on Chart Show.

Mistakes happen but what channels do now is cut off beginnings and ends - unusual they cut songs off in the middle but Bauer have started doing it. They cut off Work Bitch on there just before the 'Hold your head high, fingers to the sky' bit and i've noticed they do it to other songs too.

They get out of it because the songs were around at Xmas as oppsed to Xmas songs.

They play X Factor, Spice Girls, Westlife etc etc and I really wish they wouldn't.

4Music and Smash Hits played the same hour long Beyonce programme at the same tonight - pointless. Should stick it on 4music so freeview and sky/virgin etc can watch it, but not Smash Hits too. Makes no sense at all.

Chart Show have the Beyonce in Vegas programme again - back in the spring they played this every day, 2 or 3 times a day, on all of their channels for weeks on end.

Two signs that channels are losing it even more.

I am beginning to lose the will to live with 4Music these days - its fast became a crap channel par Ren/Stimpy (and the odd old channel 4 programme which should either be on E4/More 4)

Christmas Countdown these days have lost meaning of what "christmas" really means, if they had guts they could have went back 30-40 years ago for those types of songs but I guess thats not the aim these days, its more of kicking it off somewhere in the 90's up to todays music

This. I LOVED Bubble Hits, reminded me of MTV hits! in the good old days...

I'd be sad to see Planet Pop go, I do quite like it, but that change of owner for the license never bodes well...

Watching a bit of NOW Xmas over the weekend and the graphics were all over the place, countdown started mid way through and didn't tally up with the EPG. That aside, I quite like NOW Music too...!

Now have a Christmas Vote going on - some rarer songs in the vote list

http://vote.nowmusic.com/

Just like the Million Vote which was ruined by people spamming Britney, Spice Girls and Take That, this is already looking like a George Michael spamming competition.

Talking of Take That, Rule The World was just played on MTV Classic's 00's Christmas. Huh?

No it's about some family law research paper she's written or is going to write. She's a family law specialist (according to the college website) after all Should be interesting though. I'm gonna wear my Britney shirt and see if she notices.

Really?! Argh that must be annoying That's one of the best parts of the song and it's not gonna gain them any viewers. People will turn to the 'net where they can watch music vids uninterrupted. Why do channels cut off songs all the time? Is there any reason for it?
