Good to see Base showing a Jamaican videos show in primetime. I've never seen a lot of these videos before.

Everything But The Girl song has been played a few times on VH1 lately - may be the same Spring Fling chart. They have new charts now on repeat, that is one of them.

MTV's Total Request is funny - the ad is all through May they will play viewers requests - they build it up on screen to make you think the entire playlist for May is viewers requests but it is in fact 1 hour per weekday on MTV Music and at the weekends the chart for the week. It's currently being spammed by One Direction and Little Mix fans ”

Thats true - favoritism is rife on these channels and agree Bauer is bad at that - played certain artists say in 90's slate them later

Vintage at least plays at times more of a varied playlist to that of that dull VH1 - charts on repeat what a shock ... thats all these channels consist of sadly

MTV Total Request - I too had to laugh at as well, thinking to myself, would they play Mr Blobby if it was requested but I doubt (its a con in itself and again back to similar situation of Bauer), but whats the point of requesting all 1D/Little Mix songs it seems more of a turn off (without it even airing it yet) I wonder what the #VH1TOTALREQUEST would be like? Adele/Ed Sheeran

All because of a Jamaican artist currrently sitting at number 1 in the charts. Vintage are doing the same and they'll stop showing the videos as soon as this guy disappears.

Well, they had the top 20 of the week at the weekend. The top 10 had 3 1D and 3 5SOS.

I think the spammers have had their say. Not to mention over half the songs were current/songs by current artists.

Talk about overplugging certain artists .... its OK once May is over and done with MTV will still be the same (not any different really if its meant to be viewers in control of the channels?)

Apparently Little Mix fans aren't happy that 1D had 3 songs in the chart as they wanted more Little Mix

Embarrassing really as it could have been really good but they rarely play older songs so it's mainly current artists.

1 hour per day on one of their channels is poor. Better than nothing, but they could make it it permanent for 3 hours a day.

If I remember when we had MTV Select - it was at least 2 hours of requests, I admit back then I think they played the "odd" song in with todays music but then again we only had 3 music channels! MTV for todays youth VH1 for the "oldies" and The Box was the same as MTV

It also shows you as well how out of touch MTV really are - why not had an hour then of todays music then dedicate an hour to hits of the past? Now that would be interesting to watch - it would give rarer songs a chance to come out of their archives than basically be stuck on the same crap and obvious artists!

You can guarantee they'll play 1D, Little Mix, 5SOS or at least one of today. The Script seem popular as well as do Fifth Harmony, Iggy Azalea and some young rock band who I forget the name of.

3.30pm on VH1 - 5 Reasons to love Jessie Ware - a rarity. Not a fan but at least something different for 5 songs.

No matter the channel you will see them appear no matter what - is it just me or is it odd that they'll play artists listed (will play more of their current songs and suddenly ditch the past hits until they run a chart theme??)

VH1 - 5 reasons .... - why not use this more for classic artists for Meatloaf, Queen etc - it be alot better than the bore charts of Beyonce, Ed Sheeran that are never off!

First 5 songs - 1D, Adam Lambert, 5SOS, Little Mix, Fifth Harmony.....what a surprise!

Yes, they do ditch older songs except the same 2/3 they never stop playing. Understandable on some channels but even on the ones that do play older music...unless it's a chart and even then certain songs get ignored. Had to pester Clubland to play Cascada songs they had never played before, some 4-5 years old or in the case of Miracle, over 10 years old. Their may be contractual situations with a small amount but it's likely to be labels telling them to ignore the smaller tracks.

Well, they could do a top 5 of anyone. It's 20 minutes of airtime. Beyonce, Ed, Taylor and Adele etc gets kind of boring, but VH1 isn't what you'd call an exciting channel at the best of times.

I think the oldest song played today was 2011/2012 at best and by a current act - I say that as I think most were 2013/14/15.

The same usual suspects.

ILoveMakonnen ft Drake the only artist that isn't played every day/every other day and that was a 2014 track.

They could have done much more with this than give in to the 1d/Little Mix spammers every day.

VH1 has never been as repetitive as it is now. It's the same handful of themed charts every week. There is finally something new on Tuesday 26th May "Afternoon Acoustic: Top 20", but apart from that it's the usual Power Ballads, Spring Fling, and Beyonce/Leona/Pink/Olly charts

Oh bloomin hell I guess VH1 is experimenting now - acoustic? I wonder if it will really be a hashup of all the MTV Live gigs (recently?), I wonder if Nirvana may pop up on there as well!

Thats the problem with these channels in general its the same themes day in and day out - there is no real creativity these days - its basically bland

VH1 is hardly exciting to watch really in general - these days its more of stuck in a timewarp whilst bombarding the viewer to check out what hip over on Channel 5 or MTV (and as of tonight Big Brother has started once more .... so they'll be endless plugs for that now....), the channel has fallen from grace and there is definately not "more VH1" and I still can't grasp what demographic they are aiming for ..... one minute you think channel is going back to its roots the next its basically MTV Hits again and Viacom/MTV UK need to get a grip on playing favourites on channels to advertise .. they have a whole set of channels that they could advertise for but only seem to aim for just a few, if this is going to be more of the case is it just time really just cut their losses and basically merge the whole lot?

Spring Fling is on again later. Currently VH1 loves Adele.

Seen lots of plugs for Big Brother - more nonsense.

MTV Total Request have had two Taylor Swift songs in the first 35 minutes 5SOS already played. No 1D or Little Mix yet....Maroon5 old song from 2004....the rest all in the past 2-3 years.

Spring Fling will possibly be renamed shortly as Scorching Summer Hits

Again thats my own turn off from their own channels - is the plug ins (i'll expect the repeats will end up on MTV too!)

MTV Total Request - surprised already - played TWO Taylor Swift songs, I can't remember a request show playing 2 songs within a time limit but then again 4Music possibly does this

Surprised they played Maroon 5 from 2004 thought it was all about todays music than yesterday - someone request a 70's song

Observation here on 4Music - I am seeing a lot of Rihanna, Katy Perry, Beyonce, ID aka usual suspects.

Someone on another thread re: the BBC and the Tories gaining full power after the election. They are concerned that advertisers will dictate playlists on all the BBC radio channels. Long shot here, but with the new government too fascinated with the private sector and privatisation....does anyone think the playlists could be becoming shorter and shorter? Simon Cowell always invites the X-Factor finalists to David Cameron's house (don't remember him doing this for Tony Blair or Gordon Brown also what if you were a Labour man and made the final?), so it could be the practices may be EVEN MORE corrupt.

As if we now need shorter playlists - I think thats nuts - be TV channels or radio stations they need to expand more on their playlists and genres not shorten them! I am not an avid BBC Radio 2 listener but I like what they do with their playlists its more of a mix and match of what the old VH1 use to be

Probably!

Plugs and extended adverts!

Well, first song today is Bon Jovi - Livin' On A Prayer.

I'm not sure The Conservatives will have any say in playlists. They have bigger things to worry about.

I think long playlists are a thing of the past. Only Vintage seem to have a big playlist.

Heat Radio done this recently but it was within a couple of hours - but I hear on my local station doing "no repeats" during the day, I think they need to apply to artists as well, but at same time you would not get that very often back in the 90's (unless artist had released songs within a timeframe)

Its a sad state of affairs to continous plug other channels whilst not giving other channels the chance to get even a bit of airtime - VIVA went the same route as VH1

- Bon Jovi - Living on a Prayer - most obvious song to be played (its a song thats always played)

Long playlists - it maybe a thing of the past but surely its something they need to look into and if anything extend it to daytime output? ie MTV Dance (seem obsessed sticking 90's songs on late than include it in "todays" scene), I would rather have a long playlist than see the same song repeated less than 2 hours later

Bauer Media: http://www.bauermedia.co.uk/contact

Pointless contacting MTV I tried and failed - they never got back to me but suggest using Channel 5 instead to contact
