Long playlists - it maybe a thing of the past but surely its something they need to look into and if anything extend it to daytime output? ie MTV Dance (seem obsessed sticking 90's songs on late than include it in "todays" scene), I would rather have a long playlist than see the same song repeated less than 2 hours later”

MTV advertise their own and now Channel 5, Bauer advertise all of the Bauer rubbish....it's just endless.

They've been a bit better the last couple of days - the lacvk of Little Mix and 1D has been welcome. Had Janet Jackson today, don't ask me the song, it wasn't a usual one.

Maybe their is no benefit to longer playlists? It appears they feel the majority want the same songs?

MTV Classic strange tonight - Noughties Mixtape - but playing 90's tracks. Noughties on EPG and on screen graphics.

Having recorded MTV Total Request all week and recorded todays top 20 of the week, I notice songs in the Top 20 that were not played in the week near the top of the chart.

Something is not adding up.

I agree on their "own" ads but the other channels aint getting air to breathe their own items other than advertise it top right or a big banner in centre of screen!

MTV played Janet Jackson? Another one I would expect to turn up on VH1 So this lot do know their music (rollsesyes)

There might be no benefit to longer playlists but look at viewing figures from past - people bored of the same themes/tracks on?

MTV Classic 00's mixtape - play 90's hits but forget to make changes to EPG/On Screen graphics - aah typical MTV! MTV has done a VH1 I gather

4Music - "Ridiculously Great Pop Songs" - all recent e.g Taylor Swift, Nicki Minaj et all. When we were discussing tight playlists the other day, what is the betting in a few years that we will just be given 25/30 songs a year from the major labels and that will be it to the mainstream? It is getting that way. Radio is stale, TV is stale and the charts are as stale as six day old bread!!

There is some shining beacons, but not in pop music unfortunately. It's the same recycled and regurgitated ideas over and over. A fag packet is the difference between Taylor Swift, Ariana Grande and Katy Perry - there is no originality.

All of their charts are the same.

They have one - Songs That Changed Our Lives - all recent (year or two) bar Beyonce, 1D and another couple.

No Britney - Baby One More Time, No Jacko, No Madonna (no matter how crap I think she is) no songs that actually changed the majority of peoples lives. Just the same things over and over.

Magic's charts are the same too - 10 different charts all with Britney - Toxic, Robbie - Rock DJ, Kylie - Can't Get You..., Outkast - Hey Ya, Beyonce - Crazy In Love etc etc - all the same just a slightly different order.

The main charts are ruined by streaming - last year Ed Sheeran got to number 1 despite not having as many sales as Union J. What says before streaming was included that a number 1 on sales would have been number 2 on the new format. Streaming just allows greater manufacturing of charts.

Fortunately we have YouTube and the like but even that is riddled with ads.

I don't find a million seller credible any more. The old days of genuine million sellers and genuine number one's is over.

Lack of demand. A few people on an internet forum is nothing compared to the mainstream artist spammers all over the web. These companies would rather have 20 stations all pretty much playing the same artists and songs and fight each other for viewers than being different and gaining it's own viewing audience.

Which channels are not playing Britney any more? All of them or just some? I haven't listened to much of her lately as I haven't seen much of my lecturer. I'm supposed to meet her in the next couple of weeks

Most of the time all the music channels blend into each other.

MTV Music, MTV Hits, VH-1, 4Music, The Box, Chart Show TV, Starz TV, Now! TV, Heart and Capital all tend to play the same videos every day.

There have been times I've flicked through and the same song is being played on three of those channels at the same time.

So much for variety!!!

It doesn't really end there as Magic and Heart tend to play the same "old" hits.

I think Vintage TV is the only channel that breaks out of the box and actually plays music videos to songs you've not heard for years. Ironically, I've made more discoveries watching Vintage TV than I have watching all the mainstream channels with their 15 track playlists.

Guys, stop watching these dreadful channels and download your own video collection. It's so much better, trust me. PM me if you want to know where to go.

I've been reintroduced to MTV Classic after getting sky installed again, had the rest on Virgin previously but just not MTV Classic after it got removed for MTV Music (i think)...

What can i say, it is a great channel for 30 somethings ... played the top 40 eurodance last night, it was great watching a channel playing songs i had genuinely not seen the videos to in years, i find myself watching MTV classic quite a lot at the moment!

You can view any music video you want and make your own playlist with Youtube ect..most people can watch these on there smart TV.

UK channels are really poor limited to the same songs. Clubland play cheesy classics from 10-15+ years ago like they are in fashion again.

There use to be but seems music tv doesn't really get the big viewing figures hence why VIVA pretty much left Freeview.

The bulk of channels are only still on air probably with big bumper ad deals. The likes of The Box went FTA ages ago so doesn't even have subscription revenues. Having Channel 4 owning 50% probably helps.

I'll agree with you regards to Vintage but to look at VH1 (which use to be more of a classic channel), it beats it in my opinion, I don't have MTV Classic as VM removed it but I think the MTV brand should have never touched a VH1 channel.

It must be me but I am sure when VH2 was about it morphed into MTV Flux and MTV basically killed off the channel, I wonder which of the MTV channels will turn to dust in the near future?

Do you not find the ads for MTV/Channel 5 annoying? Thats my main turn off for VH1 - if its meant to be a channel aimed at a certain demographic then place ads and bumpers to that group, I just find the ads for MTV these days is a bit OTT and not everyone wants to go to MTV

Most of them play Britney, especially with the new song out shortly.

Some of the charts are silly though as they think Ariana Grande and Meghan Trainor have achieved more, just because they are current.

You can discuss the new song with Iggy, with her. One of you can be Iggy.

Are they better quality and easier to download than YouTube?

It's MTV's best channel. It does repeat lots of charts though.

They may be 10-15 years old but it's something different which is better than the other channels who play the just as cheesy present day music.

I recorded Britney v Iggy from VIVA the other day but I haven't yet watched it. I'm gonna watch it after I've had that meeting with my lecturer. I haven't heard a lot of Ariana's stuff but I think Meghan Trainor's overrated. Her songs are nothing special imo. I listened to her album and I didn't like it. Well I'm going there to talk about my Masters dissertation, but if she references any Britney songs then maybe I can mention it She could be Britney and I could be Iggy

Off the top of my head, they play Till The World Ends, 3, Womanizer, Megamix and 1 or 2 more.

Meghan Trainor is very 80's and very cheesy. Lots of bright colours to make you look....and then wish you hadn't.

You are Iggy? I hope you rap better than her!

Yes, you can download DVD quality videos from years ago and put them on an external hard drive.

A lot of random stuff from decades gone by is either missing from or in bad quality on YouTube. Being able to watch HQ videos that haven't been on MTV in 20 years is amazing.

Anyone notice that Big Brother gets advertised on every other channel apart from Channel 5 itself?
