4music tonight - Victoria Secret Swimwear Special - it's basically a shot of women in swimwear with some music. What's that to do with music?

That European version of VH1 Classic still has the same graphics the UK channel had when it was replaced by MTV Classic. They must be at least a decade old!
The music is good though compared to MTV Classic which never plays pre-90s music now. |

So many epic tunes there , I also check out the MTV Chill Out Zone website occasionally too for playlists from MTV Adria and other older playlists from across the other MTV's and VH1. I follow an artist who is from Macedonia who announced that her track was playlisted on MTV Adria a few months ago , Marga Sol - Heaven such a beautiful track.
Yep, Marga Sol's video was indeed playlisted on the channel.Quote:

I been looking at the Dance Charts here and it's depressing how there are many tracks in that chart that are almost a year old ! ![]() http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio1/chart/dancesingles Back 10 years ago certain tracks would only stay in the charts for 16 weeks or less because newer ones would chart higher , think this is probably because there are less Dance releases here nowadays which results that older tracks stay in the charts far longer which makes the releases we have at present become so overplayed and stale it's one of the reasons why we have such repetitive music channels today , the same could be said for other music genres too. Quote:
Aw, so you know your stuff.
Yep, Marga Sol's video was indeed playlisted on the channel.Agreed, MTV Dance really was at its best throughout 2006/2007, and has been going downhill ever since. |

.. to this present day MTV Dance still occasionally plays tracks that should be on MTV Base even the channel has started to resemble to MTV Hits now with them playing Usher , Justin Bieber , Nicki Minaj , Jessie J , Lady Gaga , Kesha and Ariana Grande which dilutes the channel even further
If/when the current era of pop-dance-urban crossover music fizzles out you'll probably see an improvement in MTV Dance and the dance charts, as the likes of Bieber and Nicki Minaj will stop collaborating with dance acts and move on to whatever becomes popular instead. |

A lot of music by or featuring those acts is rightly or wrongly classed as dance at present. Even looking at the dance chart link you posted, Justin Bieber, Usher, Selena Gomez, Emeli Sandé etc all feature on tracks, and then there's loads of tracks from Avicii and David Guetta who are disliked by many dance purists (too mainstream/sell outs).

Loving VH1 Classic (and no ads!). Play a lot of videos that I rarely see on the main channels (or if they are it's in the wrong aspect ratio). In terms of 00s, how far into the decade does VH1 Classic play? (did see KOL - Sex on Fire last night) I see in a couple of weeks time they've got "Nothing but the 00s" on but just seen a small trail about 70s/80s/90s and not the place for today's hottest new music?
Just having another look at the stream now and they're playing "Neneh Cherry - Buffalo Stance". I wonder when that was last played on a UK music channel? It's a shame VH1 Classic isn't broadcast in the UK, in favour of the inferior MTV Classic. I hope they re-launch it one day but I won't hold my breath. |

It was around the time when the MTV's here rebranded in Summer of 2007 when they were assigned all the music channels with the same logo's and graphics , granted that MTV Dance retained the 'feeling' from the previous era for a few months until around October of that year when they started to throw on more of that Grime/Rap stuff which really had no place on the channel , MTV Base would have more suited for that style of music and to this present day MTV Dance still occasionally plays tracks that should be on MTV Base even the channel has started to resemble to MTV Hits now with them playing Usher , Justin Bieber , Nicki Minaj , Jessie J , Lady Gaga , Kesha and Ariana Grande which dilutes the channel even further , only a tiny portion of what the channel play's now is actually dance music no bigger than 25% to be exact and even that 25% of what they play ain't all that good , think the last decent track I saw MTV Dance play was by Western Disco - The Sun which was released 2 years ago now.
However, it's a really sad state of affairs now, with more and more pop music being added to the channel's playlist, while the so-called "dance" output only consists of Harris, Guetta and the usual couple of sellouts from the Netherlands and Sweden. The channel as a whole seems to be aimed at an audience of pre-schoolers living in the US. And the pan-Euro feed of MTV Dance manages to be even worse than the UK version, incredibly enough. Just lowest-commor-denominator pop music 24/7, as if there was no interest in proper dance music here in mainland Europe. As a fan of the classic UK garage scene, I believe MTV Base has its moments, and seems to make a slightly better use of the archives these days, especially during the oldskool videographies. But that's just about it, I'm afraid.

Thought the pan Europe version of MTV Dance is MTV Dance UK without the teleshopping, Also they really do need to turn MTV Classic UK into a real classic channel.

Weird thing was recently I heard on a bauer radio channel they played Barenaked Ladies - One Week - I ain't heard that in years (its probably been played on MTV Rocks/Kerrang possibly) but surprised they played that song! (again MTV/Bauer called them One Hit Wonders )

The 70s/80s/90s trail is probably quite old and from before they introduced some 00s music. I'm not sure how far in to the 00s they go but thankfully most of the music still seems to be 90s or earlier.

I liked VH1 Classic before MTV touched it/rebranded it (Virgin Media then took it off) but seeing the Euro version made me think of why some tracks don't get played on VH1 .... or I noted "the rock show" was on .... yeah when was the last time VH1 actually played that properly than playing "safe" these days! I can't see VH1 Classic relaunching in the UK either ... you just need to look at the state of VH1 itself .... still making errors like the one recently Greatest 21st Century Movie Soundtracks where most of them were playing songs of the 20th Century than 21st ... does anyone at the wheels of these networks had an education or were they just giving the job and to hope for the best? Looking at MTV UK (its main channel) we can already see how dumbed down the channel has went and its being inflicted onto VH1

Official charts don't exist anymore. They are all manipulated. Adding streams just about killed it off for me. Quote:
I tell you what though I'd happily pay a monthly subscription to subscribe to an actual music channel that play's non to lesser mainstream Dance music across Europe but then again in this day and age I cannot see this ever happening with the ever decreasing viewing figures across the music channels. At present I find there is no real alternative Dance channel anymore for Dance fans anymore and since the current 3 we have now which are MTV Dance , Chart Show Dance and Clubland TV all play the same videos from the same artists in the near same rotation it makes them unwatchable and boring and these channels don't really appeal to me although I do watch Clubland when they do play the odd classic but they hardly the lesser known dance classics only the ones that were popular at the time. When I do flick across these channels all I ever see them playing are horrendous tracks from today's popular EDM stars and I don't particularly like the current trend at the moment in the Club scene as it comes across too loud , too bland and too dull and too safe for my liking , to add I'm not sure if anyone has noticed this but they always seem to have favouritism for Calvin Harris , David Guetta , Avicii and Martin Garrix , not one of them actually make decent tracks , David Guetta hasn't really made a good track since 2008 to be honest. Oh well I suppose I'll stick with listening to the Internet Radio streams instead , at least there's no annoying Advertisements ![]() Clubland is the better of the three and MTV Dance has picked up a bit since Bracegirdle took the reigns. CS Dance play too much Beyone, Rihanna, 1D etc etc mixes. Quote:

Taling of charts.
Official, Big Top 40, UK Hot 40, Britains Hit 40, Chart Show Singles Chart... No idea what the last four include or how these Urban, Dance charts etc on channels are calculated. |

MTV is undergoing a rebrand. As part of they'll start showing social media videos from Twitter/Instagram etc between the shows. The new promos, idents and social media videos are already on the channel as of today. http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/new...ls-go-i-804789 Here's an interesting quote Quote:
"...we felt we had lost some of the MTV edge and spunk. Seven or eight years ago, we were super-local, and every MTV around the world looked completely different. So we went through a necessary process of bringing them all in line and having a unified content structure and unified look and feel." MTV always looked better when each station had it's own unique look (apart from when MTV UK had those awful characters in the 'MTV ONE' era from 2007-2009),.
"That served a great purpose, but we felt we had perhaps lost some of our creative freedom. People these days want to be local, but they see themselves as global citizens and we weren't making the most of the fact that we got this amazing global creative community. In the past, MTV was always famous for the creativity of our idents and allowing audiences to participate. So, our question was how can we do that, but in a very modern and social way." |

Was taking a look and if streaming wasn't part of the official charts, Chris Brown would have been number 1 last week, but because other songs were more streamed, he as only number 4 - Jason Derulo's streaming meant he kept number 1. There were other big differences from with streaming and without streaming. Totally manufactured charts. CS Dance have the awful full screen ads during songs "Don't miss this at 10am" etc The other day, Heat had a 30 minute Britney programme - well, 23 minutes if you take out the 7 minute ads. Only, this time, they only played 3 songs, totalling less than 12 minutes. Complete waste of time. Quote:

Not trying to come across cynical here but how many times has MTV been rebranded? Seriously the brand has had more makeovers than its counterpart VH1 and friggin VIVA .... maybe news to the heads - leave the brand alone and stop revamping it just for the sake to blow your "teleshopping" money For the life of me I rarely remember MTV having so many revamps when I was younger ... the only thing MTV done was revamped every few years as far as I remember but this lot its like its every 6 months?!

Could be interesting, but then could be a terrible idea. I guess we will find out as it unravels. How the heck did Heat play 3 songs in 30 mins?? Ofcom should be slapping them As for Charts I went off them completely these days ... i'll just see who is #1 then end of ... As for MTV rebranding as mentioned above (in above reply) .... how many rebrands does one network/channel need .... is this what their money is spent on? Rebranding every 6-12 months whilst looking at their other channels such as VH1/VIVA are left to rot meanwhile promoting all things MTV/C5 it clearly shows you how much they do think of their viewers (basically alienating demographics) |

Ofcom only care if a breast or a nipple is shown before the watershed. It's a system used for abuse of the complaints system.
Just noticed a show with Chris Brown. How has he been forgiven? Is domestic violence acceptable now? What next a rapist being welcomed by the world? |

Stupidity at its best ... still double standards really ... to me in the 90s videos unsuitable for play (daytime) were kept til 9pm but these days its more "laid back" As for Chris Brown heck you dont see songs from certain people from 70s due to their convictions but again its double standards ... more surprised he still got airplay after the incident (not even a temporary ban) .... but yet artists of yesteryear are judged - airplay stopped (understandable) but again anything artists do wrong is either swept under rug or ignored |

We do have a gay music channel for this weekend called MTV Pride but it may not be the first gay music channel. In the past we had a full time gay Flaunt before it turned into a dance music channel.

Yep, Marga Sol's video was indeed playlisted on the channel.

(promoting shows) .... this sort of stuff needs done away with! I am all for advertising the programme top right (or wherever best) but not to go OTT on the ads ie I am looking at you lot at MTV!
