Is this the #vote4music thing? I have no time for it but would not surprise me if it was "fixed" why do they not expand it? Include "old skool" songs or does that to have a new meaning?

Regarding Justin Bieber its alright that song has now inflicted MTV Base and MTV Dance but that was to be expected

After watching a few minutes of MTV Dance today I feel the channel is beyond repair now , it's damaged and with the music they've been playing lately , it's really poor and the stuff they've been churning out over the past 6 or 7 years has been no better really.

It Seems the Dance fans get the worst treatment whilst Rock fans get the full treatment of having MTV Rocks , Kerrang for the more popular mainstream side to Rock and Scuzz for the more underground edgier side of Rock when Dance fans get absolutely nothing as an alternative because of the replicated playlists on all 3 dance channels.

Very dissapointed with Chartshow Dance the most though can't believe CSC got rid of the superior Flaunt for an inferior music channel that devotes most of it's playlist to just Pop Remixes and overplayed Club chart songs that sound like they're more suited towards Kiddies Discos. I'd expect this sort of music to be more suited for Chart Show TV instead seeing as the kids control the charts these days , It would make far more sense to move all that to the main channel instead seeing as it's a chart channel but I suppose the channel name 'Chartshow Dance' speaks for it's self really....

Guess it's back to YouTube here

Grimmy ruins everything, but then Zane Lowe was a big twonk too.

Like all channels, it's them choosing the playlists. I'm sure girls are there doing it too, but if a channel wants to play something, they'll play it regardless. The shameful pushing of Little Mix and Fifth Harmony of late has been nothing short of disgusting.

MTV Dance has gone backwards since they had a little upward turn for a couple of months.

CS dance do play too much pop remixes. I don't mind some, but 1Direction is a bit too far Their sexiest dance vids were a heap of Jlo songs basically.

On other channels - MTV had the same Rihanna chart on both channels last week - same start time etc - pointless.

Planet Pop - how many more Rihanna, Beyonce, Taylor Swift days can we have and their all girl/all boy days are all the same songs and artists.

Vault - Really bad right now. Same programmes over and over. One two hour programme had the same songs in both hours.

Some Bauer channels are playing charts but not putting the numbers on screen. Pointless charts, now with no numbers. Notably 4Music and Heat.

Heart and Capital are on repeats too. Same charts, same programmes, same boredom.

Well with MTV recently in their hiring of so called DJ's we should have seen it coming a la Paris a la Grimmy on the other hand at least he is not been inflicted on VH1 (yet)

I don't like Zane Lowe either but when was with MTV2's Gonzo it was a face well known to the channel and generation - I think now MTV is trying to do the same again but have someone like Grimmy on seems to be bringing MTV further downhill .... I wonder if viewers should request future VJ's for its UK network as they seem completely useless at it

MTV Dance to me lost its way few years ago with me now it seems as if its turned into a pop channel by day and by night there is some seriousness with it but of course throwing in the latest trend as usual

I may also add MTV Base is another channel that does at times seems to know what its doing just a pity they couldn't keep Bieber and the alike off it then it would be a good channel ... MTV Dance confuses me as to what its meant to stand for as its more of an MTV Hits than anything else

When I have money I will set up a media company which would set up a consortium with Sky, Bauer, FremantleMedia, ITV and Future Magazines to launch a 24 hour live entertainment channel called The Magazine Channel. Three more channels would be launched by the TMC consortium, Retro Select (classic TV jukebox), Rock Talent (underground rock music) and ChoiceTV (pre-recorded material).

After the few months, I would merge The Magazine Channel consortium with The Box Plus Network and Sky owned game show channel Challenge (because doesn't fit in a wholly owned Sky image) to form The Box Plus Network. Under the merger deal, the music channels and Challenge would return to the Sky’s pay line up. There would be massive improvements to the former Emap channels.

Channel 4 would pull out of the merged Box Plus Network group.

4music is irellevant - couldn't that been a part-time channel instead of Viva? Little Mix's new single is in the fresh Top 20, er it's been #1 for two weeks. Plus I'm sick of the same old, same old songs.

the fresh top 20 needs a rename its the same with 'kissfresh' radio how they get away with playing current songs on a fresh chart-station is baffling!

I don't know if anyone "Likes" The Box on Facebook, But earlier on today they put up a post: "Thoughts of Old Skool vibes today..." and with it was a picture of the really old logo which brings back memories. (You know the one... Music Television YOU Control! from the mid 90s I think)

I replied: This is when The Box was really worth watching. Bring back the video selections! Even if it's through your apps like Clubland and Planet Pop do! #JustSayin'

They replied: Watch this space...

Could they bring back the video selections but this time select the songs through the app? (Exactly like Clubland/Planet Pop do like I mentioned) instead of phoning that 0891 44 66 00 number lol

They could....I imagine it would be like 4Music though and it would be the same songs on repeat as opposed to throwing in some older tunes (as that is more Heat's style).

Good you got a reply though and thanks for the info

Its at least a start I reckon but I think this was a missed opportunity for them to move as such as from using "phone" to an "app" or at the minute or 4music is "tweeting with hashtag". On the other hand it really puts MTV to shame really as all they ever ask is viewers to make up charts ... why not bring MTV Select back on the main channel - it does not need to be converted to full blown music but have something to interact with the viewer but of course I forget MTV ain't that interested as they could have trialled something like this on VH1

It's a start but it may be no different to 4Music's Twitter Vote nonsense where the same songs are played all the time.

I think all these vote shows are the same. I expect the playlists are decided by the channels in the main and they are just making you feel involved. Clubland has the best voting (when they use it) but even that is manipulated.

CSC's attempts at a viewers month was pretty pathetic. The odd show here and there but no real attempt on telling you how to vote and it was the same every show anyway.

ALL music channels should be closed down. Radio is the place for music, where you use your ears!

Depends on what stations you listen to on the radio - Music stations I listen to is Radio 2, Kisstory. Heat (but playlists are limited this is Kisstory/Heat I speak of)

If the "music channels" closed down what would they be replaced by? You just have to look at MTV and by the way things are going they may as well convert the whole lot of them to that format if they can't be bothered with their playlists

That is I think is a problem regarding voting/playlisting on the channels it could be manipulated - in saying that going back to when the "Emap" channels ran selections can we really say there was no manipulation used then? I do admit I used to phone in for songs ie say artists they would not touch with a barge pole but just for the sake of getting them on

Or why not these channels actually do a LIVE VJ (on screen ie revert to MTV TRL/SELECT days) show (be different for the Bauer channels to do but it would make MTV look stupid for not doing anything like this, I still think this is something MTV is missing yet these were the ones that started it all off but I guess it shows the "can't be arsed" attitude really), even if the show was not on MTV as such then try it on VH1 since they seem to be even aiming that channel towards MTV weirdly!

I've always been a massive fan of dance music since the early 90s but for me, dance music over the last 8 months has been absolutely atrocious.

It'd be easier for me to list dance singles during these last 8 months that I've actually liked because it's been so incredibly dreadful.

As for YouTube, I listen to so much music now on there I don't think I'll ever go "back to YouTube" as it's pretty much my main source for discovering music apart from when I listen to tracks in my iTunes library.

All 5 Bauer/C4 music channels on TalkTalk TV closed down with no valid reason. Still expecting customers to pay same amount for 5 MTV channels. There is also no Box+ service on 4Music red button for YouView boxes. Plus they've tried to fob off customers by saying they are "less popular" and indicating they're being replaced by "more popular" programming. Terrible and irrelevant PR.

Not letting me quote for some reason, but...

Kezo - Manipulation has always been used, it's just more prevalent these days as it's more financially rewarding.

marbles - Doesn't surprise me but it's a poor show from Talk Talk. Sky get a bad rep, but still far the best.

Just heard Will Best say how they are doing the current 'Official Charts' they have on Bauer channels - it's based on Airplay across the Box+ channels, so that's what they mean by 'Official'

CSC have done nothing under Sony ownership. Really they could have used some of those music slots for HD movie channels by now.

They've made the music channels worse.

Still, could be even worse - Planet Pop are pathetic right now. Another Taylor v Ellie day and i'm sure we have more Beyonce, Minaj, Rihanna etc days coming up.

VH1 have their 'Better Than Cake' program back tomorrow.

MTV Classic is back instead of Summer as 'Omni' told us a couple of weeks ago.

First song on Now's Euro Pop party - Madonna.

I know she has some Italian heritage, but that is scraping the barrel.

VH1 - short on creative programming I take it if that cake programme is back (presume it maybe updated next)

MTV Summer didn't last long then? lol ... oh well what "classics" are on anything before 2000 by chance?

Didn't watch it but I assume it was the same songs.

They have 80's at 8 and 90's at 9 now....well, not tonight as it's Brintye Top 20 instead

Originally Posted by kezo:

Not watching now but Pink was on it! I think they've done this chart before and it shocked me then,

Talking of shocking = the aforementioned Britney chart that is on now - MTV won't play 'Gimme More' as it's too saucy, so they played a small bit of it. Erm.....how is it any more saucy than some other videos? Bauer and CSC play it all the time and earlier in the chart they played '3' which is a song about threesomes and the vides is her writhing around anyway, plus MTV often play songs involcing sexist, racist, degrogatory lyrics - they really have no idea.

Just to add, they are refusing to play all of Everytime now because of the 'bath' scene - they play it on VH1 all the time!

They are cutting off loads of songs and instead the girl is just talking a lot and a lot of the stats are wrong. Sometimes is apparently early 00's.
