More ads -- less songs should be their motto!”

I do watch less than I did but when it is on, it's all the same guff.

Must be on the 30th showing of the VMA's by now. It's on 3-4 times a day.

I just drift in and out .... surprised MTV is still repeating it, must be still obsessed with the VMAS I wonder if the EMAS will get the same treatment? I doubt it!

Also I'll add this, seen a bit of that new Justin Bieber song, is Justin Bieber trying to be KD Lang now?? (his hair)

EMA's will get a lot of repeats. Probably not as many as VMA's but then it's not American.

His hair is weird. They all go through these phases though. He'll be bald eventually.

A thing I find odd about the way the music channels are now run is they face extinction from YouTube and spotify turning up, so the idea to compete with diverse on demand services is to show the same songs on a loop. It's suicide.

The channels are basically run by the labels. Nothing in it for them to be more diverse as they don't want anything other than their artists to be given the light of day.

Still though why favour the VMAS more to the EMAS? Isn't the EMA's meant to highlight more music from Europe (call it an MTV Eurovision), but then again the EMAS these days is full of US artists more than say UK/Eire acts

I hope this is one of his WTF moments

MTV prefer to stay as American as possible.

As you point out, most of the EMA winners will be Americans anyway, at least all of the big awards. Don't think they've found a way to make Beyonce the Maltese performer of the year just yet, but they would if they could.

Heck I use to watch the emas from 1997-2000, then the novelty wore off - it wasn't due to the US artists back then - but the emas now I hardly got time for plus the artists they put on leaves you more of ... still surprised that MTV rarely touches the "classics" of the VMAS/EMAS of the 90's

I think one of the charts on The Box is sponsored by Spotify (sure it is Big Top 40) - I think Bauer are safe under that umbrella but again all these channels run limited playlists/countdowns example:

VH1 back in 90's use to run Rock/Motown countdown themes or Artist of the month - these days is top 40 ballads .... and 20 lets eat cake (yes this was back on ONCE MORE last week) - playlists need to be more open and well take "risks" - weird though Rihanna can flaunt her goods but expect a Queen song to probably be ripped to shreds

Well, unless Beyonce was performing, they wouldn't show it again.

Clubland having a banned videos show - just played Pizzaman - I Don't Need This S hit.

Yes, Clubland really did play Madonna feat Nicki Minaj - Give Me All Your Luvin

lol oh well don't expect that song to appear on MTV Dance soon

4Music last night/this morning: Rave Songs that made the 90's: Top 20 - it was a not bad chart if I am honest, it had from what I remember

Shamen - Move Any Mountain, Opus III, SL2 - On A Ragga Tip (not seen this vid in years! but its mostly been used on FirstDirect ad), The Prodigy (one of their earlier songs), Black Box - Ride on time, Technotronic - Pump up the jam - but in general why stick it on late?? Also to me even though it was a chart but what they played makes MTV Dance look really soft (music wise), yet this was a one off, I hope they expand the chart as I wouldn't mind seeing other songs not been played in ages!

I will also mention this I think for us "old skoolers" we have to look out for "rave" now since "old skool" is now modern music

No one watches music channels now as they are rubbish, All they do is repeat the same 10 songs and over apart from Vintage TV which plays real music.

MTV won't show it. They would if it was one of the chosen ones but Pizzaman....never.

Didn;t see the chart but if they do show these charts it's always late. Almost as if to say they do it but out of the way. Clubland and CS Dance (on their old school requests) show On A Ragga Tip.

Yep, talked about on another thread

It also appears Starz have started playing older tracks at 3pm on a weekday. May only be for September though.

This is true. Problem with Vintage is the picture quality is so bad it makes you clinically depressed. Isn't there a way to tidy up the videos a bit?

It's embarrassing how bad VH1 is nowadays, used to be brilliant.

MTV Dance will mostly stick to Happiness - Pizzaman (not seen that in a while but its the most obvious track they'll play)

On A Ragga Tip was a surprise to me seeing it on a Bauer channel - why can't they do this more often, I would watch things like that even old skool rnb of the 90's (if I know it), but again missing a trick completely here (no matter the genre)

I'll also add they played Inner City - Good Life (original) was hoping to see the late 90's version (which I rarely see) but I missed out numbers 17-20, I thought it was a bit refreshing to see on 4Music but I wondered why they never stuck it on earlier but then again I forgot they have the tat on before

I'll agree with Vintage (does this channel have sound issues too on some videos?), but I think Vintage TV has became a new VH1 (or I should say what VH1 use to be). I find it an embarassment to watch as well, not just because of the themed charts on repeat but its the continous plugs for MTV/Channel 5 - what happened to channels having their own identity and cross promoting one another? It just seems more and more when you watch VH1 it seems the impression I get is they want this to be another MTV branded channel, but then again look at VIVA thats another channel thats went the same way as VH1 - its just another vehicle being used mostly to promote C5/MTV programming nothing more.

4Music - Jess Glynne's #Hangout which has been repeated like 100 times in the past few weeks has Beyonce "Drunk In Love". Does Ms Glynne like her, or is it an excuse from 4music to shove the overrated slapper in?

These charts are presented by or featuring the artists and not representative of what the artist wants to play as i'm sure Bauer, MTV etc have already decided the playlist. You find this as when Bauer or MTV both have 'X Artists Party Playlist' and the other has 'X Artists Party Tunes', they tend to be totally different.

I remember Girls Aloud thinking 'Toxic' was the greatest pop tune ever a few years back on Bauer and at the same time they had a similar chart on MTV and it wasn't even in their top 10.

And not every artist is going to think the same artists are brilliant. All artists appear to think Beyonce, Swift, Katy Perry, Rihanna etc are amazing, when in reality The channels, the artists management, record label and agents are agreeing ot it whilst ensuring the artist gets more playtime from the channel. Happened recently with Alesha Dixon. Heat don't play current tracks, but they played Alesha all the time after she fronted a couple of shows for them and now they've started showing Rita/Chris Brown, so I imagine Rita Ora must have appeared on a Bauer programme recently.

Sadly, appearances aren't innocent and as you well know, the charts manufactured.

As AcerBen's link pointed out the other day, 15 of the top 40 had streams over a certain percentage of their sales and we could probably guess at least 10-12 of them.

Not sure i've seen that on MTV Dance.

Always surprised when Bauer play something different.

Not likely something 4Music will repeat too often. Instead they'll repeat Alesha Party Faves or an extra showing od PArty Down South.

People always think the EMAs are for European music but they're not. It's just the Music Awards of MTV Europe.

But surely this should be reflecting the whole European music scene? Anytime I watched it back in the day I felt it was more of a European feel to it ... but when I see clips of today's its more Americanised (no offence to any Americans reading this).

I hardly watch MTV Dance during the day these days as its predictable .... So am I regarding Bauer playing something different but why not mix it up a bit? Include these songs on during the day than shafting them to late - not everyone likes what is on during the day but expand the playlist and I am sure people will tune in?

Another thing I feel more bewildered with 4Music by night is why are programmes such as Kardashians, 2 Broke Girls and Party Down South doing on a music channel but again and we already know its kinda of a Bauer version of MTV

It's just another award show designed to promote and kiss the backsides of popular artists.

How many award shows do we need?

MTV Dance had a small revival earlier in the year but it's gone again.

Should be 4Entertainment - but isn't that E4?

I said earlier that Heat doesn't play current music - they play music in the charts not long ago, but not current. Looking at tonights playlist, it seems they have started playing current music, so it's morphed into Smash Hits.
