Why do MTV Hits and MTV Music (and Chartshow TV) get alot higher ratings than the rest of the music channels when most of them basically show the same current hits (Capitals ratings are really low and they show current hits)

MTV Music , MTV Hits , Chart Show TV have been on air longer , higher up the EPG and on other providers.

As for Capital TV with low figures that's due to the channel being lower down the EPG guide and MTV Music , MTV Hits , Chart Show TV air out the exact same music content as Capital TV anyway. Pointless , pointless channel that along with 10 others...

It's time we started to see some closures and rebrands to a few of them !

But would being on air longer and higher up the EPG really effect them?, there are only really a few channel spaces between each channel(when you're flicking through them and they are all in the music section)
Like why do MTV need MTV Hits and MTV music, they are basically the same channel.

Can't quote people again - getting annoying.

SonOfPurple - I thought I noticed Smash Hits with new idents but thought it may be my eyes. Don't really watch Bauer much these days. Magic occasionally but the other channels are rubbish.

Zeebre - Baffles me when these rubbish channels get more views. MTV Hits and Chart Show are two of the worst channels.

JVD - Does EPG position really make a difference? As Zeebre says, they are all next to each other. Agree Capital needs closing, rank channel.

ontheradio - Planet has been back for a couple of weeks still churning out the same crap in the same crap quality. As JVD says, would be good to have a Now Classics but I fear it would be the same 40 songs on repeat.

Last night some of the MTV channels were going back in time, playing 90s music with the hashtag #MTVClocksBack. They're a week too late for that...

I noticed that - MTV Base with the UK Garage Rewind - same songs possibly they had on before - didn't tune into it sadly but I noted Ms Dynamite and Sticky with BOOO! and MJ Cole with Crazy Love

MTV Dance played some songs they don't usually play on the clocks back theme. Think it was a week long event.

Halloween has been embarrassing though. Don't watch as much as I did but i've seen Thriller, the short version, twice.

It's been all Ne-Yo, Rihanna, Little Mix, Miley Cyrus, Lady Gaga etc over and over which goes to show how much these channels don't care about the older tunes and when they do play older, it's the same old same old.

Didn't watch but Bliss had a couple of rock tunes on their Halloween programme tonight, including Highway To Hell but it's been poor from everyone else. I mean, Britney Spears- My Prerogative and Nelly Furtado - Say It Right - Halloween songs?

Clubland have re-hashed the same chart into 3 different titles including a Halloween one where none of the songs are Halloween related and CS Dance have the same Bobby Norris show on numerous times a day with the same old Rihanna, Calvin and others.

Clubland have also dumped Judge Jules finally, however they're replaced him with a lifeless girl called Xenara who is a bit of a fan girl.

Oh well, it's Blissmass!

MTV Dance plays proper dance? Only a one week event? Good god this channel and others should do it more often .... like daily - MTV Dance and MTV Base and Bieber does not bold well with me - its this sort of tat that should be on mostly MTV Hits and basically undermines what the channels genre is!

Michael Jackson - Thriller - the short version? Really they play "safe" for that video yet look at most videos they play out with get away with it! --- oh of course the other factor will be is they can't be half assed playing a 14 min vid for "ads" but if this was a modern day music video up to 7 mins long that will be played out as per usual -- am I seeing an unusual pattern?

Chilled TV went downhill faster than I expected , seems to have turned into an R&B channel now.

I noticed the change in the playlists more R&B shows and songs too , it's a borefest of a channel now. It's another channel that's having an identity crisis , don't worry it's common thing for TV channels these days , it's a growing trend actually where TV channels move away from their original purpose.

The MTV and Bauer and CSC and AATW music channels overall have been crap for a long time now. 2016 will be an interesting year , who knows we might see many music channels vanish next year.

Vintage TV seems to be the only best one out of them all. Bliss and Heart Xmas are boring with all the same Xmas songs every year so those channels are on my avoid list until after Xmas is over at least.

They only played proper dance for a week in occasional shows

Thriller was barely played at al,l all week. Shows how low these channels have gone when Ne-yo and Little Mix are considered more halloween prominent.

AATW never stick to anything, especially outisde of their Clubland brand.

Predictions for channel closes happen every year. I think they'll all still be here in a years time, minus an aatw one that will be rebranded again playing the same old same old, seemingly unaware that people don't want the same songs over and over on every channel.

Bliss and Heart are repetitive. I noticed Bliss were playing Cliff Richard until he helped police with their enquiries this week and haven't seen him since. Not watched too much though but they still play Cliff 'Punchy' Brown.

4music ends it's Style Click after tomorrow, but more pointless shows like "2015 an amazing year".....yeah the most forgettable year musically.

I think with Chris Brown, this is an example of how things such as domestic violence are now "normalised". I think we're in a world where it's forget what people think, he is a changed man sort of thing. If I was Jeremy Corbyn and won in 2020, I would ban Chris Brown's music and have fines for anyone who played it. It's going too far I know, but how can something serious as domestic violence be forgiven? I bet if he was a rapist he'd be played still or a peado. I think there is too much of this laddish culture, and with the powers that be here cutting services for women and the message being sent out "it's your fault" by the government, this is "normalising it".

Yet think of when the allegations of Gary Glitter came about I think he was automatically removed from the playlists ie VH1 and to the now present when BBC 4 repeats Top of the Pops (wiped), as I say I just think its one rule for one person whilst for another its really a slapped wrist on who they play

So why be "themed" if they can't be bothered? As for MTV Dance being "proper" on certain shows for a week - pretty much shows the lack of creativity going at MTV HQ these days

The worst thing is, most of his fans are female. They fancy him and as long as he doesn't punch them, they forgive him. Almost a "I'll tame him" culture linked to fan girls.

They'll title programmes based on current time of year, current TV programmes etc etc but it doesn't mean they really stick to it. Eurovision parties had all American acts, they just used the Eurovision name.

It's not just MTV, but yesterday I saw the back end of an artist i'd never seen on MTV Dance before.....Ed Sheeran and his MTV EMA performance.

I know he worked with Rudimental but they've really scraped the barrell with that one.

Title of programmes - remember back in the 90's it actually meant something!

MTV Dance - i'll say it again they at times seem more confused as to whats dance and not - I will say I do like that Ed Sheeran/Rudimental (only one I would play on MTV Dance), I also noted last night they too had a "Geordie Shore Warm Up" -- MTV your obsessed with yourselves there aren't you not? Surprised there was not a "Geordie Shore Warm Up" on MTV Live/Music/Hits/Base and VH1 since the programme itself is plastered over the channels

VIVA looks unusually clear , very good picture quality , they seem to have upped the bitrate which looks similar as BBC 1. VIVA used to be very bricky until today!

Not just VIVA, all MTV/VH1 channels on Sky finally switched to full PAL resolution earlier this week. Their bitrate is still the same as before, which means this switch could (and should) have taken place around 15 years ago...
