This morning I saw a music video on the main MTV channel (as a filler between the programmes) and saw the song titles for the first time since they got a new look last Summer.
They are enormous, and displayed in a huge multi-coloured box which takes up 75% of the screen. The name of the artist didn't fit on one line, so the final letter was on on the next line, like this: TAYLOR SWIF T OUT OF THE WOODS I hope they don't use these song titles on the MTV music channels in the future! I'm surprised the spin off channels haven't adopted them. |

Planet will get no viewers today then.
The next two days are Rihanna all day and Beyonce all day. Time to re-close. |

Justin Bieber - Sorry - according to Clubland is....Euphoric Dance. Next you will be telling us Clubland will put Girls Aloud as Trance - the blunders of running a music channel these days, surprised they all get away with it

I agree , it's no different to the other 25 music channels that play the same trash over and over to death. Who on earth wants to hear the likes of Justin Bieber , Taylor Swift , Rihanna , Beyonce , Nicki Minaj , 1Direction over and over a couple of thousand times more a day , the other channels play them to death already. 2010's has been such a horrendous decade for chart music.
On another note, I see David Bowie has died. MTV Classic and VH1 changed their programming immediately, so not only does that show they can change programming in an instant but also makes me feel a little sick that these channels, apart from 4 weeks a year when they show his Christmas song, don't give a toss about David Bowie the rest of the time yet jump on the mourning bandwagon because it's cool to do so. I don't begrudge real fans mourning a little but MTV Classic should have been playing his era of music more often as that is what they are meant to be about but let's not worry, they'll have Tinie Tempah on tonight talking about aids and safe sex, just because they want to look like they care. |

When Michael Jackson died, ALL of the MTV channels switched to showing his videos on repeat with a scrolling ticker bar at the bottom of the screen where people could tweet in their messages of sadness and condolence. David only got 2 channels. Do they have tickers at the bottom?

I've not seen a ticker but then i've not watched - just looked and it's adverts at the moment. MTV has lost most interaction with it's viewers, even more so since 2009. They only seem to do Twitter votes now for the same things every year - MTV Stars etc where people can spam over a billion votes. Maybe they'll do more over the course of the day (as may other channels - MTV Rocks? Kerrang? etc) but MTV will only care with what brings in the audiences. If a current pop star with 4 hits died, it would be 20 channels for a week. If Beyonce, Swift, Rihanna, Timberlake died, it would be 20 channels for 5 years. MTV Rocks had the odd RIP Lemmy programme when Lemmy passed away. Not sure on Scuzz/Kerrang. |

MTV Classic switches to nothing but David Bowie tracks from 12:00, until tomorrow.
MTV & VH1 were very quick this morning to get his videos on air. |

CS Dance have done it for a while on certain programmes. They also have over the video in big writing that covers the screen 'Up Next' and 'Don't miss at 2pm' etc.
Annoying. Girls Aloud are on there with some kind of mix. Can't remember what they put it under though. I imagine it won't be long. Do Taylor Swift and One Direction even have enough songs to warrant two hours let alone a whole day? Britney, Madonna, Jacko, etc (who I don't like all of) could manage a day as no song would be repeated woithin 3-4 hours but I don't like whole days of one or a hanadful of artists. I remember when Q did it in 2009 - fine if you like Britney, Eminem, U2 and whoever else they did, but locks the whole channel if you don't and with Planet, everyone else plays these artists anyway so no channel to turn too - probably why I watch less and less these days - I sometimes turn on just to see the car crash for a few minutes and then turn off. VH1 are also David Bowie non stop from 1.30pm.
Not sure how you can watch the same thing on two channels at the same time, but it's only for one day and it's not as if it's one of the regulars. 4Music and Magic now have programmes scheduled, although not all day. MTV Rocks has two hours later as well. |

Surprised they didn't call it David Bowie Day on VH1 (remember that back in the day?), I noted that during one ad break (presume as it was leading to the hour) there was NO MTV/C5 ads (quelle surprise!), I was expecting them to say - NEW EX ON THE BEACH ON MTV or CELEB BIG BROTHER (justing using caps since when its advertised its in your face)4Music tribute is 40 mins

All things irony at VH1, the sad passing of David Bowie the archive comes out - yet they would in reality stick to the usual tracks - I did note tomorow VH1 is back to square 1

Possibly the greatest artist of all time for many yet we are led to believe that's Beyonce or Timberlake. I just wish these channels would appreciate older artists a bit more. If they did, they may not be on their knees. |

I also noticed there were no promos for MTV shows on VH1 today, It was probably due to the late schedule changes, but the channel looked much better without all the Teen Mom and Ex On The Beach promos. I'm sure they will be back tomorrow though.
Full credit to MTV for getting a tribute on air very quickly and showing a great selection of Bowie videos. It's just a pity that it takes the death of a singer for them to really use their video archive and show something different. Sadly, once the tributes are over many of these videos will probably never appear again. |

The music channels don't care. It was just MTV trying to get on the bandwagon and they wil go back to normal programming soon enough, although expect more Bowie songs and programmes for a short period.

Suggestion for MTV Classic/VH1 (in general) - do artists of the month/day or even genre days and weekends than stick to countdowns all the time, maybe they will get the viewers? |

Are the MTV song titles that bad now? Anyone have a screenshot of it? I haven't watched it in so long, but their dedicated music channels are a small bar at the bottom of the screen, so not sure why the main channel doesn't use that too?
I know Smash Hits or one of the Bauer/C4 channels has a splash that covers most of the screen, but not MTV. |

http://i.imgur.com/xmnWtaM.jpg The MTV DOG flies to the bottom, then to the right of the screen when the titles appear, but the HD graphic stays in the top left. The best chance to see a music video on the main MTV channel seems to be in the morning when there are fewer adverts, just before the start of the hour. |

They've played music from the same year before in 'future vintage'. Can't remember if they were 'current' as in, currently in the charts or most recent release. Chilled have had a decent chart on today. Some songs I haven't seen in a while including The Verve - Sonnet. Didn't see the whole thing as been out and about, but a Dido song I think VH1 played once, Don't Leave Home and some others rarely played appeared as well. |

Why haven't they not just applied the same graphics they use on their sister stations to the main one? It just seems odd and ill thought out of in the planning or was playing music videos now on the main MTV has now became a last resort (as you say fewer ads) |
