Extreme 90's? - what the hell is that? Is that the X rated music video zone? or is it rock music?

I wonder from 10am-3am how many songs will be repeated?

I don't think I've ever seen MTV Classic play Madonna - Justify my Love or Erotica , those would be suited for the late night playlist on MTV 90's. The Last time I saw those videos was back in 2001 on VH1.

It be a laugh that they called "extreme 90's" but stick on edited versions! and why so late? Surely they could air it at midnight (MTV in 90's did this with their x rated zone - plus it included videos from Michael Jackson - Thriller got the 14 min version)

Michael Jackson - Black and White
Prodigy - Smack my b**ch Up (those 2 will or I should say air)

I think they should know - do they not remember The Box (phone requests?), even they to have an archive that can be used more often but choose not too!

Bauer music output - Radio (Heatradio example - is not bad), reflect on the TV channel of the same name - it ain't the same! (different output BUT playing modern pap), saying that I have noticed Heatradio is allowing "rap" versions of songs now through where few years ago it was avoided but yet they played the likes of Flo-Rida, I guess someone told them that they are giving a mixed impression of output”

Kardashian's is just exaggerated for TV nonsense. What's the next plan? Kortney becomes a bloke?

I noticed on Will I Am's Hangout on Bauer that they play a brief bit of Earth Wind & Fire - they have access to archives then.

I wonder why the TV and Radio stations are so different?

Wish they would leave MTV Classic alone and change the playlists of VH1 or MTV Music/Hits/Live to do this sort of thing.

Chilled has turned very repetitive. Every time I turn over, it's one of 5/6 songs.

I notice earlier they described Pink, McFly and Busted as Pop Punk. I'd personally just call them Pop.

I see Justin Timberlake's new song is on Clubland. Bizarre.

The Vault playing too many charts again and endless S Club nonsense with the presenting. Too much cheesy RnB as well.

CS Dance's In The Mix is the same ones over and over.

NOW have dropped Martin :Lowes for the annoying Xenara.

Heat are keeping a lot of their noughties programmes, so that is one positive.

MTV Rocks look to be all Indie now but have kept the MTV Rocks name?

Will.I.AM Hangout - so they played Earth Wind and Fire - oh halleujah!, but knowing these channels they are aimed at a younger demo so probably why they got cut off? , as for airplay for Bauer channels, it baffles me more - you could hear songs not
seen in ages but will hear it on their stations
As for changing MTV Classic to a different name every few months - its just laziness, its just another advert for people to tune into MTV (or another MTV themed channel), I do agree that the playlists or having special programming on VH1 more but this lot don't care about VIVA or VH1 other than just being a commercial vehicle for MTV, which I do find sad if I am honest as VH1 needs a good kick up the ass - I wonder if the UK will ever get a VH1 HD channel but I doubt it!

There are now more listings for MTV 90s on DigiGuide, it looks like they'll be following The Vault's lead and showing some 90s teen shows. Daria, Clarissa Explains It All and Kenan and Kel are in the listings. This must be the first time in years that non-music shows have appeared on the MTV music channels.

There's also a lot of new themed slots/charts including:

Shocking Videos
Alternative Nation
Urban Mix Tape
Rock Hedonists
Cool Britannia
Masters of Hip Hop

plus the usual Number Ones, Girl bands, Boy bands etc.

It looks like a lot more effort than usual has gone into this channel!

The only one I would say is more suited to MTV 90's was Daria (surprised no "single out" or "sisqo's shakedown") but why is Clarissa and Kenan and Kel doing on MTV 90's they were Nick programmes of the 90's not MTV related shows! (or am I missing something here?), may as well have the block called Nick on MTV 90's or MTV Nickelodeon (I wonder if that will be around the corner!)

Alternative Nation? - I never watched it when it was on MTV but that rings a bell, but your right seems more effort has gone into this - why not share this with VH1? It give the channel a shake up at same time!

I wonder if someone at MTV has by chance watched VH1 in the early 00's as this is what VH1 had done "VH1 raids the MTV Vaults" (it was an MTV Day on VH1 back then)

They only played a brief second, but if they have that in their archives, maybe they can play more archived music? If he had said he loved Beyonce, they'd have played a whole song.

It's sad what they do to MTV Classic. It's potentially their best, but they'd rather mess with it and keep Music, Hits, Live and VH1 the same.

I've seen why Justin Timberlake is on Clubland - apparently he's performing at Eurovision.. The (un)talent event just stooped lower. Adding Australia last year and now going American. Either way, the song being on Clubland is much akin to adding Little Mix to the Clubland playlist.

MTV Classic had a decent dance classics programme last night for 3.5 hours. Lot's of 90's and 00's dance with one strange addition - Madonna - Vogue. Otherwise it was pretty spot on.

Eurovision charts today - Heat are actually showing European artists and so far not added any Americans. I bet Timberlake is number 1 though. Looking forward to seeing what Clubland and others will have on, however they are on during Eurovision, so Eurovision fans are not likely to be watching.

So far.

Viva - same as the other day, some Eurovision, some not. Eurovision songs have included Jonny Logan!

Heat - All appear to be European (inc British, as we still are European)

4Music - Seems to be anything inc American

NOW - Started their EuroPop party with Madonna! It was Hung Up and it samples Abba, but why not just play Abba instead?

After a couple of other songs, i've seen this countdown before - it's not just Euro Pop, it's anything with a word in it that may make it European - Moulin Rouge and now Pink - One Last Kiss, with French words in the video. Deary me.

I was looking at the MTV Classic TV Guide - wow I never thought the channel would get that low, its a channel that to me looks more like "classic" is out the window but their definition of "classic" is between 90's and 00's now , if it was still under VH1 brand it would still play songs from 70's-90's at least but it seems MTV is modernising the classic channel - I don't have it but I feel sorry for it as VH1 at times seems more modern too but the only time it goes back to classics its when its a timewarp with ballads and all other genres are completely ignored ie no countdowns of soul, rock, r&b, motown etc (yet why is MTV Classic not even doing these sort of countdowns either? They are quick to share the MTV programming from other channels and onto VH1 but its as we all know its Beyonce, Cheryl (whatever her new name is this week).

VH1 and MTV Classic in general should be more about archived music than have gone way to modern and again why is there no consistency when it comes to special months ie MTV Stars in their ad all the MTV stations are named but VH1/VIVA are completely ignored but will end up playing things associated with MTV programming? So what is it?

VH1's Eurovision chat seemed quite good. I only saw a few videos but they included XTM - Fly On The Wings of Love, Schooch, Daz Sampson, Dana International, Loreen and Love City Grove. It's nice to see them playing some unusual videos, but a pity it only happens on rare occasions. Next time will probably be Halloween!

XTM - flying on the wings of love ? - good god I remember that being played on The Box all the time in the 00's! (technically speaking its not a "eurovision" track) however I will give them credit for at least trying something different to play (and again) why does it have to be something like Eurovision for this channel to change its tune? - they could probably play these rare tracks at the weekends or during the daytime (this one in particular XTM I am looking at you MTV Dance you have never played this in ages!)

Yes, it's a shame they call Beyonce and Rihanna classic.

They need a wider variety of music for sure.

It's the same songs Viva were showing since Tuesday. VH1 just nicked the same songs

Johnny Logan, Lena and other Eurovision songs were in there too.

This is what bugs me with these "music" channels though, they have access to the archives (why is MTV Europe able to use them but not MTV UK yet are in same building!! )

You can't tell me (not you personally), that MTV Classic has all of a sudden (even VH1) can't remember other genres of music they could cover or do other countdowns with (rather than at times shoving them on at weekend?), Why do I need to watch VH1 to bombarded all the time by Beyonce/Rihanna/Coldplay all the time, there is other artists they could play from the 70's onwards even the disco classics like Sylvester and Donna Summer but since looking at MTV Classic in general with their guide its quickly fallen from grace to what it was under as a VH1 brand - Its like MTV UK is destroying a VH1 brand in general by putting on modern pap (OK its 90's and 00's) but really? VH1 are just as bad it'll go back to 80's for a track then the rest is the same 90's onwards.

Since I like Old Skool Dance - why not play more KLF, Shamen, Prodigy (just off top of head) but since I have VH1 its rare I see anything like this on

The UK market is bigger in terms of marketing. It's the next step to the USA, hence it's more manipulated. as the channels are.

I think VH1 is the MTV version of Magic and Bliss. They won't touch dance stuff and play it safe with nice nicey music. MTV Classic has more classic dance than MTV Dance who stick mainly to the new stuff. MTV Dance have been having 'Flashbacks' lately - their version of going into the archive. When were these Flashbacks to? 2015 Embarrassing.

The Europop programme form the other night was on this morning on NOW - it got worse - 3 or 4 Gaga's, Backstreet Boys and some other American pap. They have no idea what Europop is, clearly.

Manipulation - thats the problem sadly, use the same stuff day in and out but at same time forget about music of the past as thats hardly important! (irony of all you probably hear local radio stations and BBC radio (and internet) stations playing more variety than we do from MTV.VH1 etc

VH1 - your right about that but why do we need to have another similar channel to Magic? I'll hazard a guess if Magic played more Disco, Soul, I would expect MTV's tactic would be having VH1 jump on that bandwagon too? Seriously? VH1 should be leading the way to that of Bauer but in reality to me its quite the opposite (BUT this is from their radio output ie Heat), Vintage TV seems to take risks and at least airs stuff you want to see (Ok some videos maybe Karaoke videos as such but the songs get played), where as VH1 these sort of songs are forgotten about unless they come out with some "cheesy" countdown

MTV Dance - "flashbacks" probably they'll only go as far back as the 00's I reckon, I can't see them playing 1988 or 1991! (again for a dance channel of yesteryear) it played songs from even the 80s! I remember once Ottawan D.I.S.C.O was played! (Devil management) but yet these days you know they won't broadcast that now as those in charge today would not class it as "dance", hypocrites much?

Europop - should be in my opinion from UK music to all things European not anything American and why? ie Steps, Five, Gina G or for the sake of USURA, DJ Quicksilver, Gala etc

Just been an announcement on Heat, but probably on all Bauer channels, and use this quote loosely as some details are hazy, that four of their channels will have a launch show next week for a new show and two NEW music channels called Box Upfront and Box Hits plus a new digital channel, Beatbox.

No idea if this is two re-branded channels, two additional channels of if they are closing some channels and just having the two.

If anyone finds any more info, please let us know!

Smash Hits and Heat are to be closed and replaced by Box Upfront and Box Hits.

http://m.broadcastnow.co.uk/5104184.article

Quote:
“Smash Hits and Heat TV to close in Box Plus revamp

Box Plus Network is closing its Smash Hits and Heat TV channels as part of a major revamp which includes the launch of its first online-only service.

The Bauer Media / Channel 4 joint venture is to turn off the channel brands, replacing them with Box Upfront, a platform for new music, and Box Hits, which will showcase the biggest hits of recent years.

The channels will sit alongside 4Music, Kiss, Kerrang!, Box and Magic in the network’s seven-channel portfolio.”

Thanks for the info.

Box Upfront won't be that different from Smash Hits and Box Hits sounds like Heat in a different name, so will be endless Timberlake and Beyonce.

Will give them a go but sounds more like re-brands than anything else.

That's my concern - they are going even more current than they already do.

It sounds just like re-brands to put the word 'Box' in.

I wish we had MTV Europe

VH1 is just loads of the same old charts. Maybe they should re-brand as VH1 Box Plus

So far MTV Dance Flashbacks only go back to.....2015.

The Europop chart was bizarre. It is AATW though, they think Nicki Minaj is Euro Dance.
