As bad as MTV UK?

I wonder if Heat's replacement, Box Hits, when it says hits of recent years will be hits from 10's only thus meaning Magic being their only channel from noughties and further back?

Heat had been better lately but it would be just like Bauer to go 2010's only with the new channel. Not everything 00's or 90's would be suitable for Magic.

When MTV Europe does play music it's just the same stuff thats on The Box. They show alot of Reality TV shows now and it never was like this until they made changes in 2010.

I'll say it this way of the channels should operate - mtv classic/vh1 70's-90's (vh1 90's included to today), bauer, magic, heat, smash hits (or on the new names), same as mtv listed channels and have one of their channels catering todays music more

the channels these in particular need to be expanding playlists not reducing them, the irony is if record companies are paying them for playing music why reducing the variety?

Oh, I heard MTV Europe was meant to be good. Must have mis-read.

It seems like they just want the same music on all of the channels. Just saturate us with the same old crap.

Heat was never a good choice.

Surprised they are not going to open another indie music channel. Plenty of popular bands.

Yet the archives are there to be used! Is it that they are afraid of the picture quality of the music videos in HD that they keep it to a minimum?

I know we all speak of that we now have Youtube but to think of the likes of MTV/Bauer and all the other TV companies with less variety no wonder they'll no longer to exist or will only exist for so long (doing something else ie import shows to fill schedules)

They are being a bit naughty with 4Music, turning both the Facebook and Twitter social media accounts into BeBox, hooving up all of their followers and abandoning 4Music with no social media. I'm surprised that Channel 4 agreed to it and that it doesn't breach the conditions with Facebook and Twitter as BeBox is not a new name for 4Music it is an entirely new service.

Most of the channels aren't HD anyway, so it won't make any difference.

I'm unsure how they all still survive on such low ratings.

Bauer are going to mess it all up. These new channels won't survive if they keep pulling stunts.

In other news, Heat think Jason Derulo - Talk Dirty, is from the 00's and Magic think Bruno Mars is suitable on their Girl Power weekend.

Clubland have two hours of Old Skool Vault.

Before the first hour had completed, they had starting repeating what they had already played!

Vault have a programme on at 10pm - I remember seeing this a few weeks ago and it didn't click what it was about until I had watched all of it. I'll check it out again at 10pm to see if it's the same. If it is, they could have named it better.

You think though if it was something to do with picture quality the reason for keeping the tracks to a minimum if it was HD

We could really say MTV (main) is the only channel out the whole lot of their channels that is able to survive since they still get good ratings for Geordie Shore and their usual pap (obvious the chart countdown block was a failure recently)

I see an old BBC 3 programme is now airing on MTV - Worlds Craziest Fools, also looking on their schedule they are even repeating Up Late with Rylan - heck that Rylan show is also repeated on 5+1 and 5 Star within the same night! Well at least I could safely say I am kind of glad I avoid MTV at all costs just a pity the standards could have been kept on VH1!

VH1 Schedule this week's highlights - Sing a long at the movies, Kelly Clarkson, John Legend (reasons to love), airplay chart and MTV Essentials: Heartbreaking Hits, good god VH1 is becoming a channel with a depression! - where are countdowns as I mentioned or something different ie Rock, Disco things like that? I think MTV UK/Viacom are not doing VH1 no favours at all - I admit I rarely tune into the channels these days but when you look at the schedule like this is it any wonder why?

They must know the data from their shows. It must show that old school doesn't get as many viewers as surely they wouldn't be stupid enough to stick Beyonce on repeat if it's not doing so well? I know Beyonce is a big name but she's not the biggest seller in the UK.

Worlds Craziest Fools with Mr T? Weird.

Rylan? I've seen his ad about 100 times and I only saw it for the first time last week.

VH1 is a channel left to rot sadly.

New channel numbers on SKY

359 - Box Upfront (replacing HEAT which was 364)
360 - The Box (from 359)
361 - Box Hits (replacing Smash Hits which was 362)
362 - 4Music (from 360)
363 - Kiss (from 361)
364 - Magic (From 363)

So 4Music is relegated to their 4th channel but Box Hits is still not in their top two channels despite being 'new'.

I think they do is not based on BARB data? The problem with anything "old skool" the channels don't make the effort to advertise the shows - again look at MTV and the channels - the ad space is used for MTV (only) shows, you don't see them making a bumper to say go to MTV (channel) for ..... As for the constant Beyonce etc - it was OK at first but how many times can we go round? Why not highlight ... oh I don't know ... Queen, Metallica (rock), Bryan Adams? Oh wait they are not relevant to the standards these days with this lot!

I find it weird since BBC 3 closed the old shows are now appearing (I think Worlds Craziest Fools was on Comedy Central recently), so obviously now shift it over to MTV, Rylan another one that Viacom has invested in for Channel 5 and is magically appearing on MTV as well as 5* , I still laugh at the fact that is that they can be experimental with these shows on MTV but VH1 nothing - whilst I will say is shows wouldn't be in my demographic but come on .... can we get something different on VH1!?

How many times have you seen Queen in the past year? MTV Classic used to have Queen at 3 or something and Heart occasionally play Bohemian Rhapsody, but what else? You can bet when Brian May dies, they'll all be big Queen fans again for two days.

VH1 doesn't look like it will ever change. Get used to those charts.

The only channel I would say plays Queen is Vintage but I know default is EXACTLY what you said ... Bohemian Rhapsody - VH1 has played that once in a blue moon but its the only one its on! VH1 of yesteryear played their hits and I mean all not selective! I agree MTV will go into meltdown with Queen - I wonder if by magic they'll appear on MTV Dance

VH1 needs to change - it can't keep going like that its nauseating or do those in control really enjoy playing these charts time and time again? Get your fingers out and be more creative with music/scheduling than be bone idle with the channel

If they appear on MTV Dance it will be Justin Bieber sampling.

VH1's chart is better todays - MARRS, Glenn Medeiros, Sandi Thom and other songs not usually in their charts - this is unforgettable number 1's that are usually the same old Beyonce, Timberlake, Take That etc etc. They'll probably still appear at some point, but this is more like a cheesy chart than unforgettable chart.

MTV 90s is now on air and looks pretty good. The song titles mimic the style of the old titles from the 90s, and the channel idents and DOG both show the old MTV Music Television logo. Nice touches.

It's great to see one of the MTV music channels doing something a bit different, they've been so starved of creativity in recent years.

They had several title sets in the 90's? Which ones are you referring to? Any screenshots?

I hope it's the white rectangle forming up version, I thought that was their best look but was mid-late 90's/early 00's when it was in use.

The song titles are based on the old MTV Europe "strap" (see this).

I'm really impressed that MTV have actually made a little bit of effort with MTV 90s - really like those song graphics! Ahhh 90s memories.

Probably said it before but my favourite look has to be MTV Hits when they had the speech bubble logo with "As mad about pop as you are".

Used on this CD:

I'm more surprised they made a better effort of the feel of MTV Europe - I see the MTV logo is back to its original way (than what it looks now - legs cut off dying) - why can they not just put the MTV logo back to what it was?

As for the songs/artists its indeed impressive but lets remember we changed in 1997 to MTV UK and they dropped the "MTV Strap" it went more automated, any ideas if MTV 90's is only using this strap only or are they using a variation?

Also one complaint - the original strap never had a big NOW and I guess NEXT either, surely they could drop that on screen?

Yes, it doesn't look too bad. It's just a shame they chose to use MTV Classic and not give VH1, MTV Music or MTV Hits a makeover.

I'll be in bed so I must record 90's Extreme, mainly out of amusement.

Very interesting and a good first step! Now they need to somehow bring back the magic of the original European channel. For starters: some VJ's, a live TV show (e.g. Most Wanted), some live performances, beavis and butthead modern equivalent and headbangers ball along with a coca cola report for good measure!

Box Hits is rubbish. Really disappointed with it. Every time I tune in it's the same songs as on The Box or Box Upfront or if it's an older song, it's the same artists such as Katy Perry.

Not sure why they changed Smash Hits and Heat for this, there has been no improvement and the majority of young people they are aiming for don't watch anyway.

I briefly dropped in on them same here disappointed as well ... I caught on Thursday an old Rita Ora song and well it just looked like I was watching The Box, the only difference I noticed was they have moved the countdown numbers besides the Chart they are running down ie 20 Biggest Hits of 2016 (no.20) thats it?

4Music looks completely abandoned - I noted that the "Showtime" graphic has been dropped (again maybe I have seen it off one night and is back on now) but really am surprised at the abandonment - its like MTV really - concentrate mostly on MTV (the music stations churn the same pap day in and out) whilst VH1/VIVA are left to rot with nothing coming to them other than be advertising vehicles

I know its crap and as I expected it to be actually.

The Box Hits is too safe with the same songs from the Black Eyed Peas , Lady Gaga , Katy Perry , Beyonce , Rihanna , Taylor Swift , Justin Bieber , David Guetta , Usher , Tinie Tempah , Rita Ora , Avicii , Will i Am , Justin Timberlake , Ariana Grande , Meghan Trainor , Little Mix , Nicki Minaj.

Seriously these artists with their songs played over and over for months is ridiculous and boring. There's more to music than these select few artists!
