4Music looks completely abandoned - I noted that the "Showtime" graphic has been dropped (again maybe I have seen it off one night and is back on now) but really am surprised at the abandonment - its like MTV really - concentrate mostly on MTV (the music stations churn the same pap day in and out) whilst VH1/VIVA are left to rot with nothing coming to them other than be advertising vehicles”

The graphics are just like The Box. I guess they wanted to abandon Smash Hits and Heat as brands and just be Box everything. I bet after the first day or two the viewing figures will be appalling.

4Music seems to be the dumped on channel now. They'll leave it for Kardashians etc but put no real effort in.

That's pretty much it. I had hoped they'd continue with more of the 00's stuff that Heat had been showing for the past couple of months and even expand on that but it's the same old tripe over and over and we now have three very similar channels all called 'Box' something. How they think this is a good idea and an idea that will help them survive, I do not know.

Maybe they'll hear peoples cries and adjust accordingly but it just seems to be a back up for for The Box and Box Upfront. Even their charts are full of the same tripe.

Yeah I love the fact they have used the previous MTV logo and straps... is this permanent, or a pop up channel like MTV Pride and MTV XMAS?

90's Extreme was different music but not much extreme.

Madonna - Justify My Love, Rage Against The Machine, Aerosmith - Livin On The Edge, Snoop Doggy Dogg, Radiohead - No Surprises, Placebo - Nancy Boy, Marilyn Manson, Nine Inch Nails, Prodigy - Smack My Bitch Up, Prince, Courtney Love, Nirvana - Heart Shaped Box, Alanis Morissette, House Of Pain.

Anything a bit dark or showing a bit of ass - anything that was a bit shocking in the 90's but a bid weak now and anything with a bit of guitar.

I hope if MTV 90s is a success they make it a permanent channel, maybe replacing MTV Music +1.

Seems a bit of an effort - I scored 2 points here - but Prince? What song was that? Did Michael Jackson not appear either? .... There is probably more they could put in but I guess time was the essence here ... can't go anything above an hour as MTV needs to get Teleshopping on the air (rolls eyes) - if there was no Teleshopping this could have been alot better!

i think if they dropped heat/smash hits earlier the brand change would have been different but because smash hits and heat (to a degree) are established brands they just thought to drop it all - Don't get why Heat had to go as they have radio station but then again content wise at times to radio to tv is different

4Music - is E4 Lite these days, it needs to go, its not a channel worth keeping just like VIVA i think a rethink will be on the cards

I know we all speak of that we now have Youtube but to think of the likes of MTV/Bauer and all the other TV companies with less variety no wonder they'll no longer to exist or will only exist for so long (doing something else ie import shows to fill schedules)”

Although YouTube / vevo as well as other services allow you to view music videos when you want music channels aren't obsolete just as with radio channels. Many of the songs I listen to I have discovered or rediscovered thanks to watching movie channels and listening to the radio.

They could have launched a box classic channel or something like that?

Would have been better , still they could do just that when they decide to axe 4Music. On Freeview they could get The Box as a replacement. Virgin and Sky could then get Box Classics

The long and short of it is, no one really watches the music channels anymore. Most would just flick through them at the very most (I certainly do)

It doesn't matter what they do with them, nothing is going to bring floods of viewers back. We live in a very different world, to what we did during the 90's!

MTV stood for something (it played music) and you couldn't just go onto YouTube and choose what you wanted to watch.

Whether we see the demise of these channels is questionable? Perhaps a reduction.

I fail to see why we need to have MTV Music +1?? What is the point of it?

The recent introduction of MTV 90's is welcome though. Even using the old MTV break bumpers (albeit just the one so far) Plus we get to see videos that aren't played anywhere else!

I wonder if it is a success, will it stay?

MTV Music +1 does seem rather pointless. I can't understand why they replaced MTV Live SD and booted the HD version to the bottom of the music EPG as a result.

If MTV 90s is a success perhaps it could become a permanent channel, replacing Music +1.

I wonder if they'd consider MTV 80s? There is very little 80s music on the MTV UK channels. "Saturday Night 80s Disco" used to be one of the top rated shows on VH1, but was replaced by silly themed charts like everything else on the channel.

Love MTV 90s, does take me back to the glory days of MTV Europe, VJ's, funky titles, lots of tunes you otherwise wouldn't have heard in the UK, and I really miss Most Wanted, at this stage I'd even welcome a return of MTV Select - used to love the fact you'd get Barry from London from London calling in followed by Alana from Moldova!

I've tuned in to Keep it Country a couple of times now, and I'm chuffed that something genuinely different is now in the Music section (have to admit I don't mind a bit of country music too!) but I get the strong feeling that running a TV channel is something they are learning as go along, at the moment it looks so incredibly cheap, the aspect ratio's are all over the place and as for the idents, sweet lord! - hopefully it'll get better, I'm rooting for them!

MTV Music+1 is a place-holder I imagine for whatever channel they decide to have in the future. Why they would decide to launch more channels to further dilute the already pitiful audience is beyond me though. Can each of these channels really be making that much money in advertising for them to be profitable for Viacom?

Is it just me but 4Music looks abandoned - last time I checked their is no show titles at all - its looks completely bare! ie beside the 4Music you would have show names but its like most of it is abandoned I know they still title Saturday Hot Mix but the evening "Showtime" theme has been dropped since the launch of the new Box revamped channels

What is next for the Freeview channels VIVA/4Music I wonder? (I know channels on Sky/VM anyway)

They may as well just scrap VH1 and have it retitled MTV 70's and 80's if need be ... as on VH1 its the usual themes they stick with no matter the decade its in!

MTV 90's could do with more of the on screen graphics before going to the ad breaks though!

Would they being back VJ's? I remember Vessel Van Deppen, Simone, Paul King etc...

Yes, I love Most Wanted! I believe it was pulled because it went too far with an item?

Ray Cokes was a legend!

Sexy M.F but I see someone else posted it. Jacko wasn't on that night but I haven't recorded it since.

I think they want 'Box' everything eventually.

Ideal. I guess they don't think they'd get the viewers and instead want a load of channels the same.

In other news, who thought this Aaron Renfree Dance Class on The Vault was an idea? A few minutes of him teaching dances to songs from the 90's/early-mid 00's and then they play the song. Cringeworthy - but he's getting paid I guess!

I wonder if this is the same with MTV? Looking at the state of VIVA/VH1 surprised these channels have not been properly named MTV.... since all they do is advertise MTV mostly besides Channel 5

VH1 needs a major overhaul thats for sure! I agree with your ideas but I doubt MTV will get back at you sadly , on the flip side VH1 should never got into the state it is now and what you highlight ie Disco, Country, Rock - VH1 should already be covering this but they don't or seem let alone care but VH1 does need life into it!

Looks like the playout system was in a mood today on 4 music, teleshopping finished 5 mins early giving us a blank screen followed by a vt clock saying ADVERTS ENDED RED BEE MEDIA PLC. Followed by the start of the morning programme which the video froze then started again

Reminds me when we first had sky tv in 2002 when the box used to do that as well.
