VH1's most popular US series, Love and Hip Hop, is coming to the UK from 25th July on MTV Base.

I caught that ad today ..... funny as you say its VH1's popular US series but what does MTV do in UK? Put it on another MTV channel! Whilst I will partly agree its going on MTV Base but this what annoys me with this lot - if there is VH1 shows out there put them on VH1! I remember when Behind The Music some shows were appearing on MTV Base and maybe MTV Rocks?

I also seen on VH1 today - 90's Nostalgia Hour - Billie Myers / Richard Marx - Hazard ... Have not seen Billie Myers in ages so this is a first for me to see that video on ....

I think I am another now giving up on Box Hits/Upfront - Brit Party Bangers - Rita Ora (it was one of her familar songs) - I wonder if this was the same song that was on last week as a "party banger" - if they are doing party banger charts can we please stretch it a bit further than par 90s-now?

Yes i saw the ad as well an odd place to put it on MTV Base.

Yes it's the American version of VH1 Classic that is becoming MTV Classic.

Yet VH1 has nothing in programming! Just countdowns all day , I am not for reality trash hitting VH1 but put on something .... they have an archive of "classic" VH1 they can use but choose to keep away

Reading from some comments it seems the American viewers are not keen on this change but are happy with some of the programming ie Daria but the viewers are telling them to not air reality trash on it (I wonder if the US version will listen or ignore ..... as it seems MTV here ignores complaints and goes ahead)

Oh dear. If it goes the way of UK 'Classic' then it's goodbye all the music that I see on that feed and hello endless Beyonce v Timberlake and Rihanna's greatest hits every day for three weeks.

Like I say I wouldn't mind if VH1 aired old shows from MTV or VH1 (or even both) than the endless drivel we have!

However looking at MTV UK anyway - its main focus is mostly MTV, rarely you get different ads but thats for MTV Stars etc

As for VH1 Classic changing in the US, I will assume that VH1 Classic Europe will be next in the firing line to go and be rebranded MTV? It seems as if they want rid of the VH1 brand altogether and be it MTV (whatever next)!

If they want to get rid of the VH1 brand they've chosen a strange time to launch VH1 Italia.

I just don't follow why rebrand a channel originally under VH1 to MTV for? Then again as people have mentioned since the rebrand from VH1-MTV - VH1 Classic seems to be more modern than sticking to the same decades...ie 60's onwards, its more of 90's onwards.

The reason I suggested if they were wanting rid of "VH1" branded channels is well there is next to no advertising for itself especially in the UK... Again VH1 advertises mostly MTV and well MTV advertises mostly itself (in between Comedy Central/Nick/Ch 5 trailers).

VH1 as a standalone channel these days has turned into one of the worst channels to even put on let alone the slogan "More VH1" is a joke in itself there is nothing "more" to VH1 its the same crap day in/day out, bring back VH1 of yesteryear with some MTV programming of yesteryear too! (if that can improve it)

I'm sure it's managed by different people over there but may run on the same premise.

I note from the facebook page posted the other night that they played classic artists on VH1 Classic USA - it will soon change. What the hell are these people thinking? In America their is a wider range of recognised popular music which includes older music, they are going to destroy it all just so they can play Derulo and Bieber non stop?

In the US they have a hip hop music channel called MTV Jams, but it doesn't have the reach or profile that MTV Base has over here (being on nearly every pay platform). Makes total sense to put it on Base here.

Also, Base used to show hip hop documentaries, for years they did that. It's only fairly recently it's been non stop music. There's nothing wrong with them showing shows and documentaries, as long as they're music related. Sets the channels apart from YouTube and even The Box channels that can't get hold of that stuff.

Indeed. All the MTV music channels used to show programmes that complemented their music, but for some reason they stopped doing that a few years back.

I think this poses a problem and I don't think the US viewers will take this down likely - I think if the channel changes from VH1 to MTV Classic, hell will break loose and I could see viewers complain more, I do agree with some that said if they are showing classic MTV shows as Daria then by all means I would too but don't blow it with more of the modern pap music - but thats what I laugh at though - people seem to like VH1 and the brand itself (ok VH1 Classic) but to go for the reband MTV Classic it seems people over there have already seen the channels future (probably some have asked friends relatives in UK), hence why they are commenting in disgust - its as I mentioned before it seems more as if MTV wants to eventually scrap the VH1 brand since VH1 had 2 channels but is now only on, but yet the VH1 in UK is ok music themed but there is no VH1 US related shows appearing its all shipped onto the MTV channels, back in 90's VH1 Europe/UK had VH1 US shows on and MTV UK was like MTV US (to a degree) but these days anything VH1/MTV related is basically thrown on.....MTV , you even see it with the barrage of ads on all the MTV UK networks - all for MTV (other viacom channels inbetween) but VH1 hardly gets a look in!

I'm not a fan of shows anyway - I just want wall to wall music.
