VH1 US brought it back last year I think, it got shown on VH1 UK but they decided at the time to shove it in the graveyard slot of after 12am!

Under the old management of VH1 UK at the time they had that show on from 1pm weekdays (I can't remember the other time), but I remember it very well

I'm not a fan of shows anyway - I just want wall to wall music.

VH1 making an effort this evening - 50 Breathtaking Hits of the Ninties (yes, the EPG and on screen graphics say 'Ninties')

First 11 songs and we've already had Michael Bolton, Baz Luhrmann. Jeff Buckley, Emilia, Heart and Del Amitri.
I caught the end of that programme last night #1 - Take That Back for Good (obviously someone at VH1 can't spell nineties .... why not have said 90's they usually do it that way!)

I don't mind wall to wall music but change the genre .... VH1 rarely plays rock or any other type of music these days - ballads, pop (the same artists)

VH1 will be doing an 80s weekend on 20th/21st August. This must be the first time they've done a proper themed weekend for years. I bet there's absolutely no promotion for it though.

nah don't expect it - its not an MTV branded channel , I wonder if it be different songs or just be the same expected songs

Had the chance to watch some VH1 Latin-America. Very surprised by their playlist (just a random hour):

The Bolshoi - Sunday Morning
Siouxsie and the Banshees - Passenger
Public Image Ltd - Rise
Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers - You got lucky
The Housemartins - Happy Hour
The Cranberries - Dreams
Gin Blossoms - Found out about you
Toad the Wet Sprocket - Fall Down
R.E.M. - Man on the moon
David Bowie - Ashes to Ashes
Talking Heads - Once in a lifetime
Lloyd Cole & The Commotions - Perfect Skin
Peter Schilling - Major Tom
The Smiths - Boy with the torn in his side
Echo and the Bunnymen - Bring on the dancing horses
The Cure - Close to me

Not seen as much of late but the channels that have all the new videos are the worst.

Chart Show TV - Fresh This Week - Calvin & Rihanna . Fresh?

CS Summer and Heart Summer are extremely repetitive and boring , the playlists have remained the same since June 1st

Very lazy way to run these channels , the viewing figures on all will undoubtedly be very low because of it , VERY VERY disappointing...

The CSC channels are performing really badly too and barely pull in 100k viewers now like they used to before , Chart Show TV used to be the most viewed FTA music channel. VIVA is now the most viewed.

CS Summer looks like a different channel to CS Dance , because there's no dance classics in their playlists it's just wall to wall pop/chart and remixes. I don't expect CS Dance to return due to the poor figures it had and it will continue to decline as youth watch less and less linear TV , in fact they should age the channel with Gen Y and cater towards that because they'll survive longer by doing that.

What I could suggest for CSC/Sony is to rebrand Starz TV as Chart Show Starz so it can focus on popular hits from the 2010s but more integrated with social media.

The Vault could undergo with a rebranding/renaming to VTV (Vault Television) and it could be more for classic Entertainment , Teen/Kids shows from the 80s , 90s and 00s and moving it to the Entertainment section to replace the flopped True Crime channel , VTV could prove to be a BIG success if they brought it to Freeview too.

They could also Ditch Chart Show Dance for a VTV spin off by calling it ''VTV Music'' for 80s , 90s and 00s music from Dance , R&B , Ambient/Chill , Pop , Rock , Ballads/Soft Melodic , Indie/Alternative , Grunge and Britpop. Both VTV and VTV Music could cross promote each other so they can boost their ratings together.

So when it comes to the EPG then it could look more like this :

185 VTV
186 VTV+1

366 Chart Show Starz
371 VTV Music

CS Dance won't return I don't think. CS Summer is awful but I don't know how it does in the ratings.

Starz needs getting rid of. The other day they told someone they didn't have a song because it was too old despite it being in the top 40. They then proceeded to play Guetta & Rowland and a 1D song from a few years ago. They are a rip off and pretend they don't understand what people are requestign and ask them to text again (at £1) to confirm.

Been looking at some channels I don't usually touch as the new Britney song is out. Now had it first, then Viva and now 4Music (although The Box advertised it but never played it - they may have it now....not sure) - these channels are worse than the repetitive ones I usually watch. Do MTV Hits, MTV Music, Box Upfront, The Box, Chart Show, Starz and Capital really only have a playlist of 10-15 songs? Outside of the charts they show?

Plenty of fresh music out there and they just promote the same ones all the time.

I appreciate their are other ways of listening to music (hey, i've just discovered blue tooth speakers even though they've been around a long time) so I just stick you tube or vevo on my tablet and wahey, but some people including me when I just want background music, still use the music channels - they must be close to ending because they are so bad. Unless you like the handful of artists and songs on these channels, you may as well not tune in - they are all the same! I stick on MTV Music, MTV Hits, Box Upfront, The Box, 4music, Box Hits (which is meant to be hits of recent years but is Timbelake, Rihanna and Beyonce between current hits), Chart Show, Starz, CS Summer and Capital - they are all the same!

I don't watch as much now and if i'm someone who is turning off after donkeys years, there aren't going to be many people left but these people don't listen, they think they are in the right. I saw a twitter post a few weeks ago, someone was asking them to play something different, the MTV twitter person responded with "look we'll play what we want, alright?" Great way to keep your viewers.

I'm kinda the same now - but I agree these channels are now becoming repetitive in what they play and "themes", I am surprised or would it be more appropriate to say slightly shocked at the MTV response concerning a viewer in music, it seems more like whoever was in control woke up on wrong side of bed? I presume if someone had asked them why are MTV ads on VH1? I wonder what the response would be? "like it and lump it?" The response is not doing the channel any favours let alone its viewers but whats the point in making a suggestion MTV these days is more about reality than music, let alone they say music is involved (doubt it)

I look at it like this.

40 songs in the top 40 plus 20 that have recently left plus 20 new videos = 80. So why play 10-15 on a loop, at a push 20? Simple, labels pushing and labels keeping the channels afloat.

These channels don't listen though. Viewers don't give them the money, labels, ads and teleshopping do. Viewers mean nothing and to most artists, fans mean nothing - money and fame does.

The music business is a horrible place to be if you're not at the top and that extends right down to the TV stations. In most professions, certain artists would be frozen out for their activities - in the music business, domestic violence and drugs are in the 'better than no news' category and those with mental health issues have their dramas played out for years and made to appear as a joke, as to those at the top making money, it's all good.

The poor attitude of these stations goes right down to twitter handles because they think they know it all.

Clubland and CS Dance are the only stations that have ever listened to what I said and did something about it, but I had to badger them but it seems the Clubland people have changed and CS Dance is currently missing in action.

These people don't care that out of 35 channels? Over half pump out the same nonsense day after day.

Thats true - I think the nail in the coffin for the channels was introducing teleshopping, yes I am looking at you MTV! I understand the "business" perspective of it as its all about money but really? What about the viewers and what they want? (this is not just music but most commercial channels these days too)

Back in the day I would say MTV/VH1/The Box at least listened to their viewers but these days its all about who is trending and nothing more. I also agree regarding the playlists its that limited its a joke as with case VH1 vs Vintage - VH1 use to be on top of it all and different genres, these days its the same stuff from last week/month but Vintage (give them credit where its due), is like the old VH1 yet it does more than what VH1 does today (I don't know about MTV Classic) but I prefer to watch Vintage more than VH1 (and again able to avoid the plugs for MTV/CH5 etc)

Saw an ad for the v festival on channel 5 last night, its going to be presented by connor maynard and some woman, lloks like 4 music have lost the rights to the v festival then, since it's on channel 5 it could be on one of the MTV channels too.

It's mainly on MTV with some coverage on Channel 5.

On Sunday it's live on C5 from 10pm-1am.

MTV Dance can match that.

They've just played Kylie - Slow - not a remix, just the original.

what is it today with these channels? Was that part of the Top 50 (insert name) chart? If it is I briefly passed that too but couldn't be much arsed with it - but saying that MTV Base at least was "old skool" had Gwen Stefani and Eve - Let Me Blow ya mind

Kylie - Slow isn't that the vid she is lazing around getting a tan? , I thought the video would be more inappropriate for daytime viewing knowing MTV these days (oh wait...)
