Was watching 4 music yesterday , they did a calvin harris /rhianna twitter battle, is this a new thing they do? Or are they copying Capital Tv as they do a I want show.
I noticed that too - I guess with their battle on 4Music its meant to be more interactive to MTV's battles where they throw a random video on?

Good god are the days when MTV Dance had Weekender where you mostly texted messages as well as someone you love-o-meter and The Box channels were pretty much interactive.....I guess channels these days are scraping barrels.

Still find it odd that VH1 has not had any viewer interaction quite possibly since 2006 or possibly before that either!

They've done it for a while but with different artists every day.

Never watched it before but today is Britney v Rihanna and it appears as though it's one question for the whole show - you vote for your favourite - and they play each artist alternately.

Thought it may be tweet for songs but it's not. It's pretty pointless.

I think last week I caught them having a battle with .... Calvin v Rihanna .... so if this is Rihanna on again .... oh well money does talk!

Yeah they usually repeat certain artists regularly. They only added Britney this time because she appeared at the VMA's (as did Rihanna).

I don't look at the charts anymore but I had a look today - the top 40 - one 'new' entry which is really a re-entry and the top 14 are all the same except numbers 1 and 3 which have just swapped places.

There are some songs in the top 100 that were out ages ago yet the likes of Britney, Zayn Malik and Selena Gomez, who all have a huge fanbase (and i'm not a fan of them all!) struggle to get in the top 40 of fail to do so totally. Some of the songs at the top have been there for ages.

The chart reflects the music channels with it's staleness and the changes they made by adding streams have totally changed the charts forever. We've got songs that have made far fewer sales being number one because of streaming - the charts have lost their importance.

I don't listen to Radio, but I recall a couple of years ago Radio 1's playlist had 10-15 songs as their a-list. What happened to expansive and diverse playlists?

I see new artists like Zara Larsson and Dua Lipa are industry sweethearts too, so they are going to be successful no matter what.

What a sad state of affairs the industry has become. It's never been great but it's in a horrid state.

I see 4Music are doing their last fan standing again. They only did it last year - we all know who's going to be at the top - Bieber, Swift, Rihanna, Beyonce etc.

With me the charts of yesteryear are long gone.....I use to listen to the top 40 in 90's, watched Top of the Pops, I agree music these days is in dire straits, I only like at least a few songs a year but nothing special --- even old skool dance sounds great today than when it first came out

I think the sad state of the music industry sums up the stranglehold of captialism and neo-liberalism in the Western World.

Give it time, most people will reject the status-quo and not listen to whats churned out of a radio or on TV, they'll seek out unknown acts - whether it's via the internet or going to a pub or bar that has performances.

It won't last forever, and is just a passing phase with the similar sounding songs.

Album Chart

1) Barbra Streisand Encore: Movie Partners Sing Broadway
2) Britney Spears Glory
3) Frank Ocean Blonde
4) Dolly Parton Pure and Simple
5) Twenty One Pilots Blurryface

And this chart changes more often than the singles chart and represents music fans of all ages, not just the kids. It's not as easily manipulated to the point of staleness.

I'm probably the only one, but I can't help but chuckle at the fact an album called 'Blonde' has Britney and Dolly either side of it... 😂

No. I used to buy albums on release day but now i'm a tight wad and wait for them to go down in price as the record labels are the ones that benefit from my money, not the artists.

Not that Britney needs my measly few pounds.

I had a chuckle at 'Pure and Simple'. Brintey's definitely not pure but she's certainly simple

Is it me or is the Album Chart not really featured on these channels? I thought MTV used to have an album chart Top 10 or 20. I know Magic do something vaguely about albums but it's their choices not the correct chart.

I guess the artists selling albums aren't cool enough compared to those selling singles/streams etc

Was the album chart not on VH1. MTV Hits/Music? , I guess it was not getting viewers and was scrapped -- but then again they would just play their recent hit anyway (not much new there)

Artists selling to streams/singles compared to albums -- I think with even saying that its quite true, I would say for me, when have I ever seen any other Queen song other than "bohemian rhapsody" as it seems by default thats all they play out of them, the have archived music use it! Its laughable anyway you have the likes of Youtube (for videos) or likes of ITUNES/amazon that have all albums/singles of artists but these channels just play little in variety (par Vintage)

It may have been. I'm not sure if it still is. If it is, it's not often.

I can't imagine them wanting to play Barbra Streisand - what would the Bieber fans think?

I ain't seen it being listed on any MTV channels lately (VH1 you would more likely see it on daytime to night time)

Got wrong angle on that but valid point --- it would be more of .... MTV Music/Hits - why are we playing Barbara Streisand "not suitable" for this channel, lets skip the #1 and play more Bieber instead (or anyone above), hmmm Britney or is she too falling into the "not to play" list these days?

I know it may have been mentioned before but they did play "work bitch" and "gimme more" so if her new one isn't being played then why? MTV/bauer playing double standards I wonder?

Why are The Vault showing shows now? I put it on a few minutes ago and Saved By The Bell was on. They did the same yesterday morning. Have they stopped playing music at all now?

Vault's been showing 'classic' teen sitcoms (many formerly of Nickelodeon, Disney and/or Trouble) for a fair while now, some inherited from PopGirl having run there and others acquired since its closure - they've had SBTB and College Years (but not New Class - yet), Sabrina TTW, Lizzie McGuire, Sister Sister and most recently USA High.
Don't know whether this'll ultimately lead to Sony sticking out a youthy comedy/entertainment channel, given that they already closed PopGirl which had become quite the son of Trouble in its later days. Presumably the combination of 90s/00s TV and music from the same era is doing well, or better than the original all-oldies version of The Vault at any rate.

They're not going to play Streisand - VH1 possibly, but certainly not a 'chart' channel. If she ever appeared in singles charts, it would be either wiped out (we don't have this video) or cut short. They often say they can't show this and that because they are a family based show, but as a lot of songs are about sex and drugs, it's strange what they decide is suitable or not.

Britney isn't cool anymore. It's like Katy Perry, she does a serious song and they didn't play it as much as they would had she released her usual silliness. These channels prefer sex, drugs and swearing.

Gimme More was back when Britney was news - her comeback from breakdown. Work Bitch they played plenty too - both songs they cut out the 'bitch' - strange as to when Kim Kardashian is presenting Britney at the VMA's last week (and currently on every day on an MTV channel or three) that she says the word bitch, unedited, no matter what time of day.

Clubland - new DOG's are horrid.

Starting to think Viacom could decide to let Channel 5 control all of the music channels instead of having two separate people, I guess that will only improve between the music through with better Channel 5 and there sister channels rather then MTV overload. Guess Ben Frow can not make those music channels any worse anyway

Ah I see. Well I only really get a chance to look at it in the mornings before I leave so that's why I got confused.

MTV?

They wouldn't show it in Britney's top 20 as it was a daytime tv show (they show it on Chart Show's channels and Box Plus channels)

Funny as they show raunchier videos than that on MTV - it's ok for some artists to be raunchy and puke worthy if the face fits.

Thats the irony of it all .... as I kind of mentioned previously, its OK for certain artists to get played and even by chance get raunchy videos out during daytime, yet for us the likes of Britney gets censored to buggery, but I find it more odd they don't air "raunchy" videos of the 90's during the day per se but of course those videos will forever be kept til after midnight or just after 10pm (at least) but the likes of Eminem Stan and Robbie Rock DJ will still have its censorship in it (until after 9pm) but for likes of Nicki Minaj if the video is close to raunchy it gets played no matter the time of day

Clubland TV's song graphics look outdated and very early 90s looking !

The colour scheme they've gone for doesn't fit with the channel the Samon Pink and Mustard Yellow theme they have. Maybe they should have gone for darker looking graphics with bright clear smooth text , maybe use the old AATW font they used to use on the CD's and with a colourless DOG and scrolling text for the current programme underneath the Clubland logo .

Loving the playlists on Old Skool Euphoria though !
