The censorship sounded virtually identical to that in the video. Reversed gibberish up the wazoo. My main beef with 4Music is not merely the fact that it censors music - all channels have to comply with Ofcom regulations, after all - but the manner in which they do it. I have yet to see a broadcaster censor music as amateurishly as 4Music - or should I say "AgainstMusic"?

To be concise, while I certainly wouldn't want my prospective children hearing and imitating things like "Stop that ******, crush that ******, **** that ******'s world up", there are much better ways of removing the explicit language, rather than making it sound like the artist is arbitrarily suffering from a stroke. 4Music's just lazy (and inconsistent) with their censorship.

I mentioned this before but one of the worst "edits" I have heard is Taio Cruz - Dirty Picture both MTV/Bauer networks censor "dirty" .... truly has to be one of the most stupidest to get censored for the sake of "dirty" whilst I might understand what the song actually meant but really?

We're going backwards. Backwards like 4Music's reversed obscenities. There's absolutely no doubt about that.

The hilarious thing is, 4Music's consistently INconsistent when it comes to their butcheries. I was unfortunate enough to catch a viewing of Beyonce and Jay-Z's "Drunk in Love" a few days ago - they (very stupidly) reversed the phrase "grinding up in the club", yet they retained "grinding on that wood" moments later (a more explicit phrase, if you ask me). Humorously, they also removed "panties" (it wasn't garbled, though - they just blanked it out).

Panties. A word used on a SpongeBob SquarePants episode... broadcast on a network for children. Oh, give me strength.

I think what doesn't help is the government we've got in charge, all these Christian fundi cry babies and the fact OFCOM is basically used as an emergency service as opposed to a genuine complaint service.

I've got 4music in the background (I fell asleep on the sofa and left the TV on) and whilst half focusing (muting the sound for my own music), I've noticed the same songs are on all the time. It's very stale, then again the bastardisation of the singles charts is to blame. It's all about who has the most dosh and the biggest labels. More corrupt than parliament itself.

Is it just me but since all the UK channels including these channels - does anyone else find it at times that it ruins the song/video? (the stretching), I know some videos have the "film" look and when its stretched, I was on 4Music and Black Eyed Peas - Boom Boom Pow, I find the picture of the video was just odd, it was more of a "compact" look, I know the song is probably more than 5 years old but I just think this "widescreen" these days ruins the videos

Just looked at schedule for EMAs tonight...according to virgin guide, its on MTV, MTV HD, MTV Live, MTV Dance, MTV Base, MTV Rocks and VH1 not on VIVA, I presume VIVA not showing as its on Channel 5 for Freeview viewers.

A bit much if you got Sky and Virgin plus I have never seen an event like this covered on all their channels it use to be an MTV only show but seeing them putting on VH1 says something more to me

It certainly does look weird. The issue arises when there's a discrepancy between the music video's native resolution and the resolution displayed on the channel - if a music video with a 4:3 aspect ratio is artificially stretched to accommodate the channel's 16:9 ratio, the ugly side effect is everything on screen gaining 40lbs.

It would be much better if music channels displayed videos at their native resolution - I agree.

Oh - to add - with regards to censorship, I didn't have any problems with VIVA back in 2010. There was the usual "naughty word" cutting, but it was done competently and wasn't too puritan.

...That is, except for their broadcast of Katy Perry's "California Girls" (no, I'm not going to go with the official spelling - I'm fairly certain I'd develop a brain haemorrhage). They blanked "sex", despite retaining "ass". Funny - when I caught a 4Music viewing of the music video a few weeks ago, "sex" was retained, yet humorously, "ass" was modified to "SSA" (VERY noticeable - it completely disrupted the flow of the song).

I don't mind as much the bars at the side of videos now but its with some videos I think as you say put it in native resolution, but that ain't going to happen!

One of the sillier edits I agree. If they could just edit the whole song from history, that would be better!


It's inconsistent in so many ways.

MTV Classic played Britney - Gimme More but during Britney's top 20, they couldn't play it due it to being too racey.

They also wouldn't play Everytime because of the bath scene, but will play it otherwise in another show.

The Vault - Gimme More - 9 years after release and years if The Vault playing it, they will now not show her buttocks up close

All the channels are stale. Even Vintage sometimes go Kirsty MacColl overload at times, but they do tend to have a wider playlist.

Some channels are terrible. I wish Clubland would sort Cascada - Dangerous out. On the rare times they play it, it's all over the place.

On another matter, they always cut What Hurts The Most on Clubland - the last line That's what I was trying to do - they cut it at That's what I was tryin.... so annoying.


Really annoying - if you wanted to watch MTV, you had to watch it - I chose to avoid MTV. They've done this before though.

Last year at Christmas for the first time they decided to use (i think) all channels to air the same songs at the same time - previously they all played different songs.


They tend to also edit words deemed acceptable in some songs, but not others.

The word B***h in a Xtina song was eventually blanked, but i've seen other songs where they don't cut it out and poor Meredith Brooks (probably not that poor) would have no song if they butchered her song!

I think they have simulcasted MTV Live with MTV Music, I think it was more of an MTV Live programme but again why? If you have access to the MTV channels including HD why air it on another channel?

I just thought the EMA's on all HD platforms ie MTV/Channel 5 and non HD channels such as VH1, MTV Dance was excessive really - its bad enough trying to watch VH1 when all that channel promotes most of the time is well .... umm .... yeah MTV! Long gone are the days of VH1's own ads appearing let alone sharing ads for MTV!

Idents - hopefully someone here who is a regular of MTV maybe can explain what I seen.... "computer generated" ident - group of people (looked like an exercise class), saying something about "losing weight" (again I may have picked this up wrong), can someone explain what these MTV idents are about I find them confusing and pretty weird! When MTV UK launched the only idents we got was the MTV logo with bubbles covering the UK/Ireland with a bit of music!

Seriously, they won,t play every time from Britney, they played it on Viva a few weeks back but she covers her self up in that Bath scene unless it something to do with drug references.

They just wanted to flood so people flicking would stop on it.

Near the beginning when getting out of the limo, she is ushered away and a camera hits her on the head.

Later in the bath, she touches the back of her head which is bloody and she goes under the water.

With the ending being a child being born, the suggestion she is being re-born after committing suicide in the bath, although the beginning shows her being hit on the head.

Various rumours have come out as to what supposedly is happening. MTV just took the most morbid one.

Had it been Rihanna snorting, Beyonce being sexist, or a rapper referencing drugs, they'd be ok with that.

I just find it excessive to say the least - irony is why the VMA's don't get that attention ... oh wait in the wee small hours these days the MTV channels have "teleshopping" on apart from MTV Live - but of course once thats been broadcasted its mostly stuck on MTV/MTV Live/Music .... MTV needs to gets it finger out and improve on their programming for its sister stations than priority being planet MTV!

Clubland up to their old tricks of putting unrelated tracks on their channel - Little Mix's current copycat tune - Shoutout To My Ex, was on yesterday.

They do realise by doing this these channels will probably lose their audience....meanwhile MTV somehow retains its core audience but VH1 takes a plunge...yep we can see it right in front of our eyes but MTV/Viacom don't care about VH1 these days - compared to VH1 US I guess at least there is still content on there compared to here its just music (crap music in general) and hardly any real effort put into the channel, no wonder Vintage TV does a better job to VH1 (which it shouldn't be but it does)

Hoe does MTV Live work in the UK now? Is it a european version with british ads? Or a UK version of MTV Live Europe?

MTV Live is only on Virgin now, it's the European version which has no ads.

The UK version of MTV Live closed a few months ago and on Sky it was replaced by Nick Jr HD.

As far as I know of watching it (drifting in and out) it looks more like MTV Europe is in control (unless Poland has got ownership once more?) - there is no MTV UK ads and its even free from promotiong MTV UK items in top right of screen. The channel runs non-stop and programming at times run like 25 past and 55 past the hour than the UK ie 30 mins past the hour etc.


Musically wise its no different to what it was once it was taken over UK control (shame really)

I'm not sure how many of these channels retain any audience.

As for MTV Live - it's a shame Sky didn't keep it as it was better when it was produced in Poland. They should have kept it and not bothered with MTV Music +1

Now Xmas is weird - they play some Christmas along with Xmas Party Songs (so usual playlist then) but also Dance Hits of 2016 and whatever other charts they have.

Either go Christmas or not, and if you don't, don't call yourself Now Xmas.

Never seen it before, so don't know if it's just been added into the playlist or if i've just never been tuned in when it's been on.
