I'm not sure how many of these channels retain any audience.

As for MTV Live - it's a shame Sky didn't keep it as it was better when it was produced in Poland. They should have kept it and not bothered with MTV Music +1

Now Xmas is weird - they play some Christmas along with Xmas Party Songs (so usual playlist then) but also Dance Hits of 2016 and whatever other charts they have.

Either go Christmas or not, and if you don't, don't call yourself Now Xmas.
I presume the idea of EMA's on all MTV channels excluding VIVA would attract an audience - I wonder if this time its backfired? I wonder also if they recieved complaints on it but of course this lot will just choose to ignore!

I don't know who runs MTV Live these days but give it a bit of credit with out the MTV UK garbage on it - the channel has a bit of life, wish it just reverted back to MTVNHD but at times MTV Live is like watching another MTV Hits the only difference is it in HD! I think we need a cutdown in channels - be alot easier just to go back to analogue days of basic MTV/VH1/The Box as now even these very channels just churn out modern pap anything "old skool" is now peak 90's borderline 00's anything before is at times wiped out but yet most people would I guess prefer seeing more stuff from 70's-90's than now

So pleased that we got to keep MTV Live HD on Virgin Media when they took it off Sky to make room for Nick Jr HD, it's the only music channel available in HD, great to still have it.

Looks like 4Music are gearing up to start broadcasting on satellite in the clear.

No doubt it was to attract viewers but it probably drove as many away as it did view.

MTV Live was great when it first arrived on UK TV when from Poland then UK took it and ruined it.

I don't want to leave Sky for Virgin just for once channel though.

You won't see much 70's music outside of Vintage.

Looks ok but some reviews on the service as a whole say it's adverts every 5 minutes.

They may as well not play it at all. I'd think my TV speakers were playing up

Exactly! Why even play these songs at all if they're going to be butchered this badly? Honestly, upon first hearing 4Music's censorship, I thought my speakers were playing up, too.

It seems channels are either content sharing or in reality, using the same charts but with songs in slightly different orders.

MTV Xmas and VH1 had different Christmas Charts but 37 in one was 36 in another and vice versa, so just swapping songs around by 1 or 2 places and then NOW's Christmas Queens is the same as Nicole Scherzinger's Christmas Queens just jumbled up into another chart, but the same songs all the same.

Pretty lame effort so far this year - MTV and VH1 are still showing old charts from years gone by, hosted by Pixie Lott & Noddy Holder.

Channel AKA, which used to be well respected.

Currently showing "Sound Clash UK Vs USA".

Now playing "The Weeknd-Starboy". He's Canadian! It's just basic stuff, they don't even attempt basic research. Wikipedia could have told them that in 10 seconds.

I wouldn't put it passed MTV if they have done the same - pretty sure they have with Nicki Minaj! (sure it was mentioned in this thread a while back).

Its like with me when i use to watch VH1 for the years of tracks, but now removed I am sure they will get away with now!

One example I always mentioned prior to the revamp was Sub Sub - Ain't No Love (track out in the 90s) some idiot at MTV towers put it in their system for 2006! Rightly so as you say wikipedia/google are on their doorstep but they forget that!

Clubland are quite strange right now - Nicole Scherzinger - Boomerang, Bridget Mendler - Ready Or Not, Little Mix - Shoutout To My Ex and now the new Maroon 5 song where they are all dressed in weird monster outfits. I think these songs were meant for NOW Music TV or something.

A lot of the charts are the same, just move the songs around.

You can guarantee, especially with Bauer/Box Plus that their will be Destinys Child and Beyonce, Justin Timberlake and NSync plus Beyonce + Shakira, Timberlake and someone else and then a raft of Rihanna collabs.

Viva are generally good these days with charts because anything can turn up, but today on Pop Comebacks, Britney - Toxic - a song released approx 3 months after a number 2 hit.

They went to pot years ago when they stopped playing street and going mainstream.

Britney's new song where she's swearing again (because it's big and clever it seems) Box Upfront playing it for the first time today and they've cut out the swearing naturally. They've not butchered it as much as 4Music, but it still isn't right, but what can you do when someone on the way down is trying to save their career by acting desperately.

Meanwhile MTV will consists of Calvin Harris, Bieber, Little Mix, David Guetta rinse and repeat (but keep their tracks updated hardly delve back in the past )

I will give VIVA a bit of credit - it seems like thats the channel VH1 should actually be doing -- meanwhile VH1 is borefest everyday every year!

I was watching 4 music on Sunday and they did the top 50 movie songs of the 21st Century, I'm sure this was on Magic tv a few weeks back but it makes a change for what they normally show.

Which song was this? Also, can you remember what was edited in the 4Music broadcast which wasn't edited in the Box showing? I'd be interested to hear if 4Music have done their usual task of making the artist sound like a stroke victim.

MTV Dance played Cascada - 3 Big Ones - twice! In 6 or 7 weeks

Viva is their best offering right now, although MTV Hits are going to show Britney's new song - they avoided her last one but it's up in lights tonight with it's own 5 minute slot - though they'll only need just over 4!

Yes, it's from Magic originally. 4Music have started showing Magic charts.

Sorry, I meant if 4Music had it, they'd butcher it even more than Box Upfront have - although don't count it out yet!

It''s Britney's new song with Tinashe - Slumber Party.

.

Cascada on MTV Dance? whoppee doo!, is this the only time they can go a bit different than what they normally churn out everyday? MTV Dance is pathetic really - why they can't have a slot be early evening/mid morning (daily I will use loosely), of showing songs from 70's-00's dance? (when MTV Dance was under "devil" management they played like ottawan di-s-c-o), I don't see why they can let Bieber on but can't play classics like that? This is what I mean with their playlisting it smacks double standards - we'll play this (as its current) but we won't touch this one as its .... well too old for play and may "offend")

VIVA at times makes VH1 look like utter sh..e! ... VH1 was the second strongest channel after MTV (in my opinion) but I am surprised VIVA has lasted this long and from what it started out to be!

MTV Hits barely watch it, its too cliche like MTV's other sister channels it doesn't bring anything to me

What happened to Box Upfront and Magic? I flipped onto them this morning and all I got was blank screen. Have they changed satellite frequencies? 📡📺🎶
@kezo: The one thing that amazes me about VIVA is that they still use the same on-air branding and slogan (Up Your Viva!) they had in 2009. It looks a little bit dated now. TMF was a lot better.

Yet how did VIVA morph itself into a music only channel? It was airing shows like 2 1/2 men, thats 70's show and just before it fully morphed Geordie Shore .....ever since then its been a TMF channel again! Yet musically at times it plays a bit more decent music compared to VH1!

I agree VIVA's slogan is dated but then again does MTV/VH1 even have slogans these days?

Last time MTV was Music Television, VH1 was Music First and I think (could be wrong) Video Hits First (probably other way round), again it just shows you how little is cared for the MTV sister channels to MTV itself (MTV is priority over any other channel)

Re: Magic/Box Upfront - they have indeed moved. Remember the other day when everyone got all excited when a test transmission of 4Music appeared? Turned out that was actually holding the fort for Magic's relocation. Magic and Upfront can now be found on that new frequency (which I don't have immediately to hand but can quite easily be unearthed on DS and elsewhere...)

They played another Cascada song today in their 00's Eurodance Top 3 - it's different every time they play that particular 'show' though.

In general they are poor - it's always the same songs although not as bad as the worst channel on TV right now - Chart Show Hits - even Chart Show Dance was genius compared to this - they have about 10 songs - they play some of the same songs twice in the hour.

I think they play popular artists for viewing figures, but they are battling their own other channels who play the same things anyway.

MTV Hits - I never watch it either, it's just another MTV Music although it's playing Britney for now.

So many programmes on these channels with slight name changes but I noticed earlier on one of The Box channels they were playing a song on Future Breakers (not to be confused with other programmes of theirs such as 'Future Breakers and Super Hits' and 'Weekend Breakers and Hot Hits' and so on....)

So what was this future breaker? Why, if it's not Clean Bandit etc with a song that has been number one for three weeks already. I'd say it had already 'broken'.

I must say the Christmas channels are absolute guff. The odd time they play a 'rarer' video, but it's all the same songs on different channels - only Pixie Lott plays Cascada and talking of Pixie Lott, she's been involved in two Christmas songs, or songs at Christmas - only VH1 touch her 'Caravan of Love' and only Magic touch her other one that I have no idea what it is called and unlike VH1 playing the odd occasion of Florin Street Band last year, i've not seen it this year and guess what - they are contracted to no record label, what a surprise.

Wouldnt it be better if 4Music really play a more variety of music as its the only misic channel on Freeview like a retro block of videos, dance block of videos etc, rather than just top hits from nowadays
