Back in the 90s I remember MTV doing one of two things when it crashed - it had the logo on screen (white) but no song title etc on screen....VH1 on the other hand (not too sure) but if the song artist title etc didn't look automated (you knew by the fade of it) it was more of a stuck on screen then off screen

Also when The Box crashed - at one point you got a music video playing with a box number it crashed then it either went blank or returned to request menu then when calls came through it would re-activate
Gosh I remember that

The MTV/The Box we're most obvious to spot if they had a fault - VH1 for me in a way was hard to tell as back then the channel didn't interest me til they done the every #1 from 1980-2006 (roughly or before) but you knew something was wrong on VH1 that they had a technical fault either they stuck to a manual stick on/off graphic or quite possibly similar to MTV nothing on screen apart from the logo (again I think it varied over the years)

Out of curiousity for the ad (if there is one) is MTV highlighting all their channels for this or is it the same old .... stick to the MTV branded channels only again??

Also I like how suddenly the #1's Month is now under MTV --- back then MTV didn't really care for number 1's it was VH1 that done this! Oh of course this lot at MTV forget that part of history but will happily label it as an MTV thing...
The channels flash at the bottom of the ad but I don't know how many of them are in there as it moves too quickly.

On Viva (and maybe all of them, I haven't looked that close) they say "number ones month, all this month on Viva" or something like that.

VH1 played Eminem and Rihanna - Monster, in Power Ballads tonight. Maybe i'm the only one, but i'm not hearing that as a power ballad and viewing it more as a "Let's chuck another Rihanna song in another chart" moment. They seem to be playing a lot of the same people when they have donkeys years of number ones to choose from.

I've seen one of the ads - one that just flashes up MTV Number Ones Month and then flashes all the channels at the bottom below the MTV sign - it's really quick so I had to slow it right down and it's still not clear with my eyes but they list all the MTV Channels and Viva......but I didn't see VH1, even though they are doing number 1's....i'm not sure Rocks is on their either, but it wasn't clear.

They do have an ad with a voiceover which on screen has a list of names including Britney and The Prodigy amongst all their love children. Seen Britney a couple of times, yet to see The Prodigy, but it may just be i've missed them.

Yes, these days when it happens they just stick on a sorry we have a few technical difficulties caption. But I miss the old days when it used to happen.

So why are they running an ad where even the viewer can't hardly pick up the channels that are running it? What a stupid thing to do!

Typical though - stick to what you know (MTV in general)

So again as usual - they will have number 1's playing on VH1/VIVA but they fail to advertise those channels as they seem to becoming a distant memory with this lot! Why not just cut the crap and get rid of VIVA/VH1 if your not going to advertise them in an ad for doing the SAME THING that the MTV channels are doing?? I guess the MTV channels in general are priority VIVA/VH1 are at the far bottom these days (shocking to really say VH1 is there when it shouldn't be!)

The Prodigy my guess is they would be played on MTV Dance/Rocks as well as VIVA/VH1 but they should be featured.

I am in a way just giving up on VH1 now - the channel has nothing going for it plus the treatment (including VIVA) gets its a disgrace but I guess they are mostly commercial vehicles aimed at MTV (which they shouldn't be). I wonder if this year we will see one of them go?

They tend to do that.

Eurovision is the same - Eurovision party and it's the same old American pap but with a different programme name.

It might be my eyes but it's poor visuals anyway. I think it's meant to look old style.

Viva is on the ad, as is Rocks now i've looked closer but VH1 isn't. It's bizarre how they treat VH1 isn't it?

I'm sure The Prodigy will be/have been played, I just haven't seen them.

Music, Hits and Viva just seem to play the same ones. Viva have delved into a bit of old school Kylie etc, but Hits and Music are in effect the same.

I hope they replace Mtv Music +1 with something.

VH1 is never mentioned in any adverts, it doesn't seem to exist as far as MTV are concerned.

MTV Music+1 and VH1 would be better as MTV 80s and MTV 90s, but that would probably involve too much effort.

I've just seen the end of the ad on VH1 where it flashes the name of the channels at the bottom, but as I literally caught the very end, I don't know if VH1 was on it, but i'd imagine not, despite it being on that channel.

MTV Classic could be 80's and backwards, VH1 could be 90's and MTV Music +1 could be an MTV 00's channel but it's a very British thing - little effort in the hope of maximum reward.

I'm not a whizzkid on tech so this is crap but...

https://vimeo.com/198078041 - you can see the channels flashing at the bottom - it is slightly clearer than this in real life but not much.

https://vimeo.com/198078544 - They do have one for VH1 - it's not the whole ad but it does show the VH1 bit at the end.

That's very rare indeed, for the past few years VH1 has been totally overlooked and never mentioned in the promos for themed weeks/months etc. This must be the first verbal reference to 'VH1' for years! Hopefully they might start doing more promos for the channel instead of it airing MTV/C5 ads all the time.

We can only hope.

MTV do have a habit of making an effort until mid February and then giving up though.

For those who haven't seen it, here is an image of the artists names in the ad.

This I agree with - VH1 is a channel they should be using to their advantage - air new programming just do something with it!! Regarding ads they need to stop overplaying CH5/MTV ads for me its already ruined the brand whenever they advertise ie Geordie Shore on there or the in thing at moment CBB

In previous years if it was Stars of The Year (the comic book style) they advertised all MTV channels apart from VH1/VIVA and again those channels took part in it!

VH1 in general just like VIVA is hardly considered yet they do the same programming that MTV channels do
