It's been on a few times already and is scheduled to be repeated many more.

It's easy for me to go to a different channel - Sky have loads of them, but I feel for those on freeview as they only have 4Music and Viva which I barely touch.

Also, Clubland's top 20 most played. Didn't see Cascada, yet they've played it loads, mostly from me voting and yet they play Martin Solveig that they have barely touched even since it's arrival no more than 10 days ago.

Something tells me they don't use basic airplay either omnidirectional was very informative earlier. All very misleading by the channels, but that's the world we live in

Correct me wrong here - but how can Pixie Lott be "old skool" I thought "old skool" would be the likes of Take That, 911, Five, Duran Duran, (well lets say consist of artists out of 70-90's)? I would have classed Pixie if anything as "Nu Skool", is this again another one of these countdowns where they throw anyone in it for the sake of it being a countdown??

No wonder I am beginning to lose confidence (if not already) in what they play and being "accurate". May as well pack my bags as "music" on these channels are becoming more than nothing to me, kinda sad saying that as music "mainstream" is what I followed ie The Box/MTV and even VH1 were my favs back in the analogue days as now its the same songs/artists stuck on repeat!

I think music TV is dying. Us Freeview viewers get a raw deal with those waste of space channels 4Music and VIVA. Yes its allright with these internet enabled ones but most of us upgraded to bog standard boxes. People do not have the cash to buy an advanced Freeview box.

The labels dictate....the public suffer.

Recalling the chart, and it's just started the Top 20 on one of the channels now, Old Skool is 2009 backwards in this charts eyes.

I've watched less the last few days and i'm on leave, however it's summer, family want to do things, tennis, football is on and....well, crap music TV doesn't appeal.


The viewing figures show music tv is dying. I hope it doesn't, as not everybody has access to online content, but time moves on.

Its not as bad as Capital who.think music was invented in 2010.

We know old school is 60-99 but the channels don't care.

Music TV could only survive if the channels LISTENED to the viewers not the labels.

Labels and advertisers = profits.

When these realise that they aren't pulling in enough viewers, then the fans will need to be listened to.

MTV rarely get exclusives anymore, with most new tracks being shown first by Chart Show or Starz, who must be easier to negotiate with. MTV generally get alot of tracks many days later after the first showing on another network.

I have noticed with Starz they always STICK to their roots and will give new music even new acts a try. MTV is all about the money.

Old skool is classed from 2009 backwards? Seriously? (not at you) .... these channels can go take a flying duck .... your scraping barrels with it now .... whats next "old skool" dance is already flo-rida, taio cruz? get a grip! (maybe say Nu Skool) but this is just taking the biscuit!

Oh well even if "music" tv is dying maybe it should be a good thing, get rid of half the crap filling the air as well as getting rid hardly "researched" material

If I am correct to say then if they are or already have phased in "entertainment" well we all know "music" is becoming second to anything else, I admit these channels have changed since the 90's but I never thought in less than a decade it has turned into trash tv as well as "heavily" promoting shows ie MTV promotes on VH1/Viva (crap shows..... who cares?? - where is the INDVIDUALITY in these channels?? NONE!)

VH1 has a few schedule changes from 14th July. Highlights include an extra showing of UK Top 40 on Sunday afternoons, at the same time as the chart is being broadcast (not sure if they'll be doing a live countdown of the new chart, or repeating last weeks). The Top 100s which are currently on Sundays from midday-9pm are moved to 7am-4pm on Mondays. There's a few other changes too including a love songs hour at midnight.

Maybe they'll take this opportunity to bring the new look to the UK? Pigs might fly!

Yes I can see Geordie Shore going down well with it "internationally" as I have seen that shocking ad for it - show looks like it Jackass down under (apart from its UK people looking like idiots in a foreign country - good grief!)

as you mention VH1 making changes in schedules I doubt its to bring in a "new look" they have had ages to do that (could have done the revamp at same time as MTV )

That is laughable an "extra" helping of Top 40 yes we all care about the charts now do we?? As I don't! - I just have a feeling that the people of "MTV" have no real idea on what to do with VH1 other than be Top 40 and be completely useless at even countdowns!

The 80's music seems decent on Summer Hits TV.

Perhaps she'll decide to make her mark by introducing Teleshopping throughout Europe! Honestly, nothing this company does would surprise me anymore.

I wonder how many old music channel programme controllers are still there? I bet The Box is under more management and Chart Show.

I imagine they are in other projects now. I'm not sure who runs music channels but they are failing badly. Music tv was much better ten years ago.

In terms of programmers, I know Lindsay Wesker has been there a long time (since about 1999). He runs MTV Base and VH1 UK. Apart from that I don't know of any.

Richard Godfrey has been long associated with MTV Networks Europe (he was the senior vice president from 1996 until 2009) and still does work for MTV as producer of the Europe Music Awards among others.

Believe it or not but I thought music TV was better back in the 90's (I was new to MTV VH1 The Box from 94-96ish), and you can tell the difference in what it was to now

2002/2003 was when the reality shows took over from music content on the main MTV channel and the endless repetitive trailers for said reality shows began. NOTE this was before Youtube began so it can't be blamed here.

90's you had a strong MTV, VH1 and The Box.

2000's you had the increase in channels like Kerrang, Smash Hits and VH2

Mid 00's there was alot of FTA channels.

Peak for me was about 2003 with Q, VH2, Kerrang, P-Rock and a Sky owned Scuzz plus The Amp. That was the days when rock music channel fans could watch music tv.

Who would think ten years later there's only two rock metal channels left?

But that was also when MTV had nicer coloured branding. Also EMAP's channels were at there peak and Sky launched three music channels.

I admit they were still miles better than today, but in my opinion that was the first sign of things to come.

I agree about the 90's that was when they were the best of times and VIEWERS felt more in control ie "select MTV" and sure there was a similar show on VH1 (but called in ie Love songs) now where is it all?

I do think there has to be a major overhaul on all networks - either scrap the channels or merge them as I am sick of seeing one artist on "Dance" and then ALSO play on "Base"

Yet these channels have failed to grasp in looking at the likes of Youtube/Spotify etc for new talent - but then again thats when X Factor came in and has ruined music for me!

MTV were and still are being sent new videos by new talent and independent labels. If you ever saw the excellent 120 Minutes alternative show on MTV2 you'll understand what I mean. Nowadays of course, they (or at least most of them, there are one or two exceptions) aren't interested in playing them.
