It's unwatchable and so is Magic with all the pixelation. You'd think that as they're owned by a large company they'd be higher quality but Bauer and MTV are miles behind the CSC channels and even the AATW channels.

When i go back to my home country to visit family i see MTV NL always has higher picture quality and broadcasts old 4:3 shows and videos in pillar-box rather than zoomed in.

Well, this is it. MTV and Bauer make out they are the market leaders, but in reality, they are pretty crap in the main.

I always found CSC channels to run on an appallingly low bitrate, but they certainly look no worse than the competition now. The transponders are so overcrowded with all these '+1' timeshift channels that don't seem to have caught on in Europe.

Yes, CSC have very low bitrates. Some channels are as low as 1.4MB/sec as there's so much crammed on to the transponder. As a contrast, MTV Hits is 2.8MB, The Box is 2.5MB. MTV Live HD is well over 11MB.

On another note some of the CSC promos and competition adverts look like something from the 80s too

How do you measure the bitrate? Not through a Sky box I take it. The MTV/Bauer/Emap channels looked pretty decent until they went widescreen.

What I was trying to say is that CSC are owned by an unknown company and not a world famous company like the MTV channels are so they should be of an extremely high quality.

CSC's channels may not have the best picture quality and the graphics aren't as polished but the content is better and they all went widescreen ages ago.

I guess you'd pay more for space on a less crowded transponder and gain from a higher bitrate. The channels on the former 'Eurobird' satellite often tended to be lower quality.

Talking of graphics, MTV's computerised ones were buggy from the word 'go'. Problems ranged from song title captions not displaying, to graphics getting stuck on screen, to the whole lot failing completely. The current graphics are actually quite pleasing (there's not much else to commend on the channels) and work well most of the time now. At least the pre 1998 burnt on title captions (pre computerised) always displayed, unless they played the untitled copy of the video by mistake! Nowadays the opposite can happen. Occasionally it is possible to catch an older video with the colourful MTV Europe caption on display when the library choose the titled version by mistake.

There's a website you can use, which checks the bitrates of all channels each day: http://www.digitalbitrate.com/dtv.ph...g=en&mux=11308

As an example the above links to a scan of the CSC transponder. In the table, you can see Minimum, Average and Maximum bitrates over the last 40 days and all time.

Is that a hiphop/urban festival? that would explain that amount of coverage...MTV is a urban addict. everything else than urban is not existent on MTV.

I'll take it a different way steven, its at least a different song than the one MTV Dance/VH1 constantly play and that is "everybody's free"!! (ok wrong #1 lol)

I don't watch that, but would turn off if they were on it anyway

I notice Vintage's most played track of the week only had 6 plays compared to other channels where one had 85 plays of Icona Pop!

Being honest I liked "come dine" at the time and thought lets see how this goes and as predictable ONE of them had no idea how to "turn on the oven" and to go fetch my "butler" (beats the point in even APPEARING ON IT!!) - posh snob!

regarding "most played track of the week" 85 to 6? ... I would rather stick to the 6! ... that Icona Pop ok its not bad but even myself its getting annoying now!

Know what I have been listening to recently and growing on me The Fine Young Cannibals

Magic was having a problem with it's bird that sits on top of the programme info bar earlier. It disappeared and left it's eye which kept on blinking until the rest of it came back

So it just looked like a weird flashing light in the corner of the screen but it was strange.

Unknown I take it Magic/The Box have had no updated graphics i'll take it then? (Go widescreen but don't change anything? what channel does that remind you of?? lol VH1!)

I guess they never "tested" before the roll out on how graphics would look on screen with change (why am I not surprised?)

Looks like you were right - seems to have gone 16:9

Same graphics although it looks like they've "recreated" them in 16:9, only been watching a few minutes and can see a few oddities already:

When the countdown graphics come up the chart position is off to the left but the actual artist/title is sort of in the middle (where it was on 4:3 version I think)
The chart position in the corner is bigger and doesn't appear as soon as the titles vanish like before. It also stays on for a few seconds at the end of the song when the titles come back up
Exactly, 85 plays is OTT. 6 shows Vintage have a wider range of videos.

You drive us all crazy, Kezo, just like Roland Gift

Didn't see that, but it sounds like they have a few teething issues

Oh and the new Fresh Music 20 on Bauer - Blurred Lines number 6. It was fresh 3 months ago, now it's just tired.

LOL ha ha Sylvester - I think it also shows how much "control" labels have -- and that is without viewer control (speaking as of The Box etc)

Fresh Music 20 - is that even valid?? OFCOM should be tanning their asses for "false advertising" - that should be well off, and is more less relevant - wouldnt it be a laugh when it exits out UK Top 40 that'll be its cue to go for Fresh Music 20??

The channels without viewer control are most poorly run, however Clubland stopped taking requests seriously when they cut the premium rates out. It sometimes took forever to have a song played and that's when they put the telephone numbers (some numbers blanked out) at the bottom of the screen and on twitter barely anyone was requesting, so you knew their wasn't a huge waiting list.

Anything with Miquita Oliver's voice isn't relevant. If anyone got a job because of their mother...

See I thought it was great when The Box ran requests OK the phone lines themselves were nearly touching breaking point but surprised more viewer control is not there you have twitter too just # the artist or song its simple and costs nothing! but I agree something like 6 hours wait on a song is terrible (felt like waiting in hospital or at an airport for a song lol)

Can't stand her voice either!
