I don't think so - there seem to be more now than have ever been. They must be pretty cheap to run and yes we have YouTube, but by that logic we don't need music radio any more either.

Couldn't you just post this in the existing music channel thread instead of making yet another pointless thread to try and get attention
You need to move on! |

I ain't moaning here but can we keep all things music as such and the state possibly under one thread? I am beginning to get confused on what one to follow, I understand that all these channels are in dire straits and are trying to improve in some cases and in others go downhill but can we try and keep it to one - no spinoffs ie The Box or KISS could be better run as....(example)

Next week on 4Music: Dance Like Beyonce. Wtf?
Beyonce sent to Afghanistan and shot by the Taleban would be a better thing. |

4music will now be showing films on Friday: Romy and Michelles High School Reunion.
Can't their licence be scrapped or rebranded as 4entertainment? |

Can't their licence be scrapped or rebranded as 4entertainment? I don't think there'll ever be a pure music video channel on DTT (outside of the Manchester mux), the latest Ofcom research shows there isn't a lot of demand for music channels now. A decade ago when TMF and The Hits launched there was no YouTube and the market for music videos on TV was a lot stronger. TOTP and CD:UK were still on air too.. MTV Classic seems to be a lot better recently. Earlier they had Run DMC/Jason Nevins, Urban Cookie Collective, Everything But The Girl and a few other dance tracks in a row during the "Killer Anthems" slot. The general playlist isn't biased towards classic rock any more. |

No, because (thankfully) Ofcom don't regulate channels based on their names. MTV (with no music) would have serious problems if that was the case!

It's the same with that late night book shop in Whiteleys shopping centre. Now we've got the internet and we can download e-books at any time of day or night. Another thing I've noticed is that they've brought back Beavis & Butthead and showing them on Viva . These seem to be brand new episodes as well.

Saying that, the singles chart is looking VERY stagnant. There needs to be a mercy rule where a song is thrown out after 25 weeks and as well radio stations must be forced to adhere to a quota of where 70pc of music must be British and new acts especially those who have shared billing with bigger acts on release day. Any station who has very tight playlists has its licence stripped. What I would say, and it's another discussion for another time, if people are still buying Blurred Lines, Get Lucky etc and any other song that's been around for over 2 months, where the hell have they been? I think it's people just being a bit slow and living on another planet. Quote:
I like chart show tv it's the only music channel that supports independent musicians including Melanie C now she has her own label Red Girl Records she is supported by chart show all the others because she's not on a big label they won't show her videos but the 1channel that plays mels videos is chart show tv #goodmusic
I saw this on Clubland the other day - this exact version, not a dance mix http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Lcyojh_fP0 I despair. |

Starz WAS good when it played more underground stuff but since mushroom tv went bankrupt it only plays chart stuff.
Planet pop is the insignificant music channel ever and I can't believe chart show dumped NME for buzmusik, it is literally a pink screen with a tiny music video playing. Vintage TV however is king as is clubland. I hope we don't lose Clubland, it's my favourite channel, even if they have really bad charts and now a much shorter main playlist. |

I remember Starz playing very rare things - those two brothers with their UB40 style songs....can't remember their name and some other things other channels would NEVER touch.

The Dualers were fairly decent! I remember Starz playing songs by Hannah an Estonian pop singer with tracks such as "Keeping Score", NY who had an urban ballad called "Seasick". Saw NYs album in HMV for £3....not sure whether to get it. On top of that a few others....

If they were Brit schoolers, we'd all be told how amazing they are and would have Brit Awards before they'd even achieved anything. £3 for a CD is rip their arm off time, if it's something you might like. |

I don't see the fuss in that Tom Odell - just some whiney girly looking bloke. At least in France, Germany, Spain, Sweden, and places like Russia and the Balkan bloc - people from the poorest background can have a huge career. Sandie Shaw complained about Brit school to the government as she feels the only way working class people can make it is sadly X-Factor ![]() Hannah is huge in Estonia, so no loss there - has even tried for Eurovision in 1997 and 1999 - did not get picked. Perhaps come back in 2014 with a song in Estonian? I've downloaded/streamed a few of these lately. WAY better than the crap served up in the chart, radio and music channels. Granted some are known in those but it's proper music: http://theindierockplaylist.com/ |

Well, this is it - the average person must go on reality tv. Even the likes of Mumford & Sons (ok, not technically British) come from wealth. How many channels do you think will play the Estonian song? Maybe Chart Show when they have their Eurovision countdown. Never heard of most of them - can I hear them before downloading? |

My advice is perform in local pubs and clubs and keep it low key. Use your talent for pleasure and not to be sold out to the devil. The only way for equality is a revolution and Brits dont have the fire the French and Greeks have. The Estonian song...if its commercial and in English probably Chart Show TV and Starz. Bauer will see it as evil. |

Jessie J told us it wasn't all about the money - I don't know how much she got for The Voice and now she's left, she's saying it was about getting back to her music - she knows to say the right thing, when it really is all about the price tag. For Bauer, if it's not Rihanna, Beyonce, Timberlake, 1D, Gaga, Pink or Perry - it's probably evil. Clubland are showing Clubland Live from a few years back tonight and tomorrow - bit of Cascada mentioned.....hopefully it really is live and not the songs they performed. |

I do wonder Sylvester2007, do many acts go for the cash due to the recession or just want to be filthy rich? I go for the latter. Jessie J said she did not want people slagging her off twitter. If its nasty things fair enough but of its about a song...then people have the right. I do think a lot of unknowns are happy being unknowns. My first boyfriend had two mates in a band. Said they were happy going to work at day, performing once a week. £20 a gig plus a free drink was enough. I agree. I notice Beyonce seems to be immune from critism. Does make you wonder what dark forces are behind this. Sad we see music limited in the mainstream ![]() Lets hope so! Natalie is a fantastic live performer! |

The majority do it for the filthy rich and famous. Everybody will have a song slagged off - not even worth worrying about. If it's personal, that's different, but they have to shake it off - fame brings negativity too. Alot of local groups enjoy what they do and see it as a hobby. Alot will also take the cash if they ever make the breakthrough though. Beyonce's day will come. It does for everyone. Other artists will come along and take away her limelight. At the moment she's in with Obama. Natalie's great. When she speaks she's very clichéd and it can be cringeworthy, but as a performer, she works the crowd. |

Fame has it's downsides and being a performer, there is going to be critism. If the song fails and people slate it, you learn from it. It's like doing something wrong at work. You look at it, look where you can improve and hopefully deliver. It's taking the good with the bad. I think seeing it as a hobby and making people happy listening to the music is an achievement in itself. It's not about money and number one records, it's about bringing joy. I do wonder, when Obama leaves in 2016 and say worse-case scenario the US chooses another George Bush jr or worser...will we see the Beyonce breakdown? It does make you wonder. She can sell a song. She could sing the Berlin phonebook, and the crowd will still lap it up. She doesn't dress like a tart or act like a diva. Tomorrow on 4music: Best Selling Boybands of the 21st Century. Again, it'll be fake/straight to retail sales. |

I think so too re: filthy rich. Sadly if they come from and live in some countries (UK/US) they know they won't be penalised for wealth like they would if they were French.

They certainly have an unhealthy relationship with Beyonce and Jay Z - they get away with alot. Who knows how Natalie would turn out if she became huge in the music industry. It won't happen, but these things do funny things to people. Ahhhh, another repeated chart. Do I sound surprised?

They just cut Scooter off mid song and went to an advert - they better not do that to Natalie!
Edit - they've just returned where they left off Why they didn't wait until after the song...

Everytime We Touch - the dancey version, is miming and so is Because The Night, I think.Hopefully Clubland will get it, although it's nearly 3 weeks now....if Clubland don't get it, no-one else will. They never played Rhythm of the Night in the end,so they may not get The World Is In My Hands
