found clip with Vh1 news
http://youtu.be/0sEjnAOeuao
it looks like the same mtv news crew is preparing it.
is it really not broadcast on Vh-1 UK ?
VH1 UK as far as I am aware of has no news at all (surprised that MTV News has not popped up on VH1)

VH1 UK is probably that stale you could probably throw a stone into the screen and no one would notice

It's not shown in the UK. Maybe they'll start it when the programmes return to normal after Christmas. VH1 UK goes back to normal music from 7pm on Christmas day.

In January, the MTV channels continue the party theme with various party/feel good charts and playlists on each channel. MTV Classic also has "New Classics", a chance to play new tracks that will be classics in future.

That's, well I would say unbelievable but this is MTV we are talking about, they don't quite get the term 'Classic' do they? It's like in the late 80's/early 90's Disney (not sure if they still do it now) would announce every new film they have made as Classic even tho they hadn't been released yet to get the Classic tag. It's kinda annoying, plus isn't there too much of the new nonsense on the music channels as it is?
I saw the same video on 4 different channels while channel flicking the other night, it was ridiculous.

So I guess Robin Thicke "Blurred Lines" wasn't accidental then? (MTV Classic) (earlier in thread)

As if we really need themed party charts by chance have songs that never seen light of day or stuck with the same?

I also doubt very much VH1 UK will change after Christmas - we will still be stuck in 2008 with this lot .... aah well maybe new year i'll start switching off completely....

It amazes me how they constantly come up with new, horrendous ideas for their "programming"!
It's just funny how many of us - including myself - seemed to think that their channels couldn't get any worse back in 2003 or so...

Here's the exact programme listing:

The New Classics
It's time to shake it up a little as we're looking at some of the newer acts and videos that we think are destined to become classics!
The same thing also appears under a different name:

Out With The Old, In With The New
The nineties and the noughties were vintage decades: great songs and great videos, but here we showcase some of the newer acts and newer songs that we think are destined to become classics!
Starts Monday 6th January on MTV Classic!

Glad I don't have MTV Classic - hits heading the very same way as MTV Hits/MTV Music/MTV Live with all this modern day pap ... lets see who'll be showcased 1D? .... Robin Thicke? .... I could go on but MTV has became a joke of a network now

Has there been an internal directive saying that all channels must play a certain proportion of new music? This is the only reason I can think of for such an absurd idea. I'm so glad my music television needs are catered for elsewhere, and I'm no longer paying Sky lots of money each month either!

Not that I've heard of... although I wouldn't be surprised if that was the case! It's indeed an absurd idea for a supposedly 'classic' channel, as if they weren't running another 10 channels which play almost exclusively new music.

Oh so did you give up the music package once again? Looks like it didn't take that long for you to get bored with MTV UK this time 'round!

2013 - the year music television may have finally gone over the edge.

Clubland - once a decent channel that played random songs one after another - now filled with repetitive charts - often the same ones 2 or 3 times a day.

Chart Show and sister channels - Same old day in day out. Beyonce Live in Vegas has been on just about every day for over a month on one of them. Bliss lost it's place as a channel for rare easy listening artists and replaced it with the same old rubbish - Take That nearly every day and the same old boring charts.

Heart/Capital - repetitive.

MTV - Enough said. This died years ago.

Bauer - The slippery slope keeps getting more slippy. The Box is probably more interesting than Smash Hits, 4Music and Heat and that's saying something when The Box is poor.

Starz - Not Starz biggest fan but they at least let the viewers decide and have a wider variety of music including some Christmas songs others have not touched. I wish whoever it is would stop requesting Bieber all the time though.

Now/Planet Pop - Now keeps playing the same Christmas programmes and Planet Pop - short playlist.

What a mess.

Not a huge fan of Christmas songs in the main - some are ok, but this year they appear to be focusing mainly on Justin Bieber, Leona (yes I know it's new) and other recent ones and the classics are being played far less than recent years on most channels (bar VH1, Now)

So in short - lets keep playing same "old" crap hits from beyond 2000 on repeat (or even last few years) but anything before that lets not touch with a barge pole but only touch if we feel the need to "slag it off" .... pity that its music of today that needs a good slagging off as most of it is just terrible!

The Vault goes back to 1999

Sadly, the music channels are obsessed with todays chosen few and todays chosen few only.

The more girly channels love a bit of Take That etc but those who were once stars can forget it. The music industry craps on yesterdays artists big time - as todays big artists will find out,

Nightmare!

The weather has hit us bad tonight and kicked out everything but MTV and Bauer!

Hopefully Sky Sports won't be affected for the footie tonight or it's no TV for us - can't have MTV or Bauer looking at their programming tonight.

I never really had Sky for the music channels the second time round anyway, as I'd heard very bad things since I gave up back in '08. As they were there in the package I needed for other channels, I thought I might as well have a look every now and then, but I needn't have bothered!

MTV just don't care about their older viewers anymore. The latest "new classics" initiative reinforces that. The sad thing is the current "MTV" generation won't know anything different from the mindless rubbish which is churned out day after day. If they want to compete with Youtube etc I don't think this is the way to go about it.

Still, while the channels are packed full of advertising, why should MTV make an effort while the money is still coming in? I guess there's no one there in Camden with the passion to bring the network to life again. Let's face it, they have all the resources they need at their fingertips to do a much better job. In fact MTV still has far more potential than any of its competitors, should it choose to use its resources more wisely. They just need to recruit someone at the top who cares enough to make a difference.

Can things really remain as they are forever? Sometime, something is going to give, for better or worse.

Makes you wonder why they have different themed channels when they are only interested in playing recent pop these days on all music channels.

I don't have The Vault either but 1999, I can't complain there at least 1999 is recognised and is well "90's"

I think you have answered the question - give it 5-10 years and today's stars will find out!

Possibly lazy playlisting, if not that the record companies are milking the channels to have the same pap filling the air on all channels

Unfortunately there's been absolutely no reason to bother with any of their channels since 120 Minutes was taken off the air... and that was almost 5 years ago!

As always, very wise words Tom! I think they've become allergic to their older viewers. They're obsessed with this notion that "MTV shouldn't age with its viewers", although someone should probably tell them that not all their beloved 'Millennials' (their favorite target group these days) are retarded.

I don't think things will stay like this forever... you can be sure they'll find new ways to make it all even worse, although it might be a pretty tough task this time.
And I agree, recruiting someone at the top who cares could be a good (new) start. The question is: would they WANT someone who cares?!?

Why have Magic completely butchered Mel and Kim's Rocking Around the Christmas Tree? They start showing it when the actual song starts. All of the chitter-chatter with Mel and Griff at the start and end is gone. Never had this problem when The Hits was around.

Alot of channels are cutting songs off at the beginning and the end these days. Some even cut songs off midway through.

Alot of the Christmas Classics have been underplayed this year - some barely at all. The channels have chosen to mainly focus on Justin Bieber's Christmas tracks.

Alot of their music is crap, but at least it's different crap to the Rihanna, Perry, One Direction, Gaga, Beyonce etc etc monopoly of the other channels.

2013 has been an abysmal year for chart music , The worst ever to date.

MTV Classic will no doubt become a MTV Hits +1year timeshift of hits over the last 12 months lol.

Classic to me is older than 10 years or more...
