2013 has been an abysmal year for chart music , The worst ever to date.

MTV Classic will no doubt become a MTV Hits +1year timeshift of hits over the last 12 months lol.

Classic to me is older than 10 years or more...
Supposedly its classed as "old skool" too WTF? (mean as in less than a decade - classics should be at least 20 years or more if they want a bigger challenge)

Viacom is closing MTV Live HD on January 7th.
typically viacom choice - closing music channels.

That's a shame, MTV Live is still one of the better MTV channels even though it's a lot more mainstream than it used to be.

The article only mentions Astra 1 which is used in mainland Europe. I wonder if they'll continue MTV Live for the UK only?

Possibly knowing this lot based in the UK they will probably keep it going and further "mainstream" the channel then eventually it will close down. I thought MTV Live was more of a "rock" channel but since UK control its been nothing more than another "pop" channel like MTV Hits - maybe Viacom/MTV UK should close more as lets be honest all the MTV channels are basically playlisting the same songs/artists

If MTV Live is continuing in the UK then looks like Teleshopping will appear for the first time.

MTV have just released listings for 18th-24th January including MTV Live, so it seems to be staying on air in the UK.

If this news is true then only the Astra 1 signal will be switched off. MTV Live on other satelites will continue.

MTV Live is also on Hotbird. Providers could use that signal if Astra 1 signal will be switched off.

oh boy here we go ..... are these channels behind subscription?? Maybe time for them to go free to air if this happens.

go to http://www.mtvlivehd.com/ look under schedule - reverted to boxing day 2011!

added note I go to MTV UK site to click MTV Live HD link and I am basically back to square 1!

FURTHER NOTE: go to MTV UK site - MTV LIVE HD is no longer listed?? (MTV Live on possible way out in new year? - not attracting an audience it once had? I wonder why?)

I just think when it becomes "UK" control - its a start of a rot and your right channels do feel more abandoned than anything else - are controllers that short on ideas or what?

They seem to aim some if its programming to more of a younger generation whilst the older generation are being told to take a hike , they wonder why they lose viewers? If the idea (and has been mentioned time and time again) is to have reality shows as a basic lifeline then god help them! Yes reality shows can be massive hits but lets be honest - people will get bored of them and what will they come up with to replace them or will it be a lets go back to what we stood for? - your too late for that!

The UK version of MTV Live is already a separate feed. Teleshopping could be added even if the pan-European version continues.

I rather not have music censorship and use the real feed if they can't be bothered, Same for VH1. I'm part of the younger generation and the channels have failed me.

It is actually good we have some on this thread who are younger than myself and surprisingly says what we all feel .... and in general thats what has happened with these channels they are not improving or helping anyone - its basically dumbed down trash, throwing money on talentless wannabes yet the real talent is hardly discovered or basically shipped off to other countries - surprise surprise!

Sometimes it's not the music that is played (although 98% of it is crap), it's the repetitiveness of it all.

I'll harp on about it again, but Chart Show or one if it's sister channels have had Beyonce in Las Vegas every day for the past couple of months, sometimes 2 or 3 times a day.

Bauer have UK Hot 40 numerous times a day.

We currently have top 100's of airplay/charts for the year etc etc. Over and over and over.

Clubland have gone down the charts route.

MTV keep playing the same charts with the same people.

Starz are a tad different, it's just annoying having the smaller screen.

It's just the same rubbish day in day out and i'm glad I don't watch as much as I did, but when I do turn on, I kind of know what i'm about to watch.

New Years Eve used to be interesting - until last year anyway. That's when all the channels had the same 20 or so party songs on a loop. The same old artists as well.

Just watched this in last 10 mins TWO SONGS "unrelated" to the theme ...

Boyzone - You Needed Me
Sinead O Connor - Nothing Compares 2 U

seriously?

Might as well throw in another error - if its a Friday Night Warm-Up I was expecting feel good music, then I noted they played an Adele song (nothing against Adele) but come on!

Also further note when I wrote to MTV a few weeks ago still have had no reply from them. So it must be blatantly obvious VH1 and viewers opinions don't really matter unless you must be praising the quality of the guff they throw on MTV

It is more predictable to MTV/Bauer channels I am glad to at least have Vintage TV to watch - but those other channels are shocking to say the least - variety has long gone and if we get variety its the same old again .... there is nothing new with these channels and the excitement has gone completely with me.

MTV's music channels (Except from VIVA) are Pay TV on Sky and Virgin yet they show the EXACT same content as the free music channels.

To be part of a pack that's £25+ a month I could never justify paying that just to receive their handful of channels.

Their channels aren't fit for Pay TV they should be either free or closed down and with all them having Teleshopping (Apart from MTV Live for now) just makes them even more the same as the free ones and MTV Live's content is nothing special really just a few repeats of live performances that were also played previously on MTVN HD.

MTV needs to improve their music channels in the new year if they wish to remain Pay TV because there's nothing really casual to the viewer any-more as they are trying to appeal to everyone nowadays that's their problem. What happened to the day's when each channel had their own identity and unique playlists ? The last of MTV being half decent to it's viewers was 2008 but they spiralled downhill after that.

VH1 is just a mess it's all over the place , Playlists are so stale exactly like their rival music channels Bliss , Magic. The only channel that seems to target the same audience that appears to be slightly different is Heart TV their Club Classics playlists play many 80s and 90s dance songs that aint been on TV for over 12-15 years.

Everything that made the MTV music channels unique and better than the FTA channels has gone, so they don't really deserve to be pay channels now. Clearly the subscription revenue goes into the main MTV channel.

I disagree about MTV Live though. A lot of the content is recent and it's the only music channel worthy of Pay TV status.

As for VH1.. it wouldn't surprise me if Candle In The Wind appears on next week's 90s Disco! The music on the European version is a million times better.

Notice on MTV Rocks that on all MTV UK music digital channels from 7 pm (8 pm CET) will be music slot without any adverts

As they mention in their stop a liitle gift from MTV to US

I wonder if they will have the same rotation of the same clips on all channels

Or perhaps in 2014 they will hire music programmer dedicated to each music channel ?

here is spot from MTV, looks great. Still adore MTV, even if it's sometimes dissapointing

it looks like they are changing statelite, from 7 Jan 2014 MTV LIVE HD will be broadcast from Astra (19,2°E)as part of Sky Deutschland

tech details:from 7.01.2014
Astra 1KR (19,2°E)
tp. 9 (11,332 GHz, pol. H, SR: 22000, FEC: 3/4; DVB-S2/8PSK)

Spain Canal+ removed mtv live hd from their offer so instead of staying and paying for broadcast for TV Vlaanderen and Canal Digitaal they decided to go to SKY DE only.

Its obvious it must be the cast of "the valleys" or the "geordie shore" running VH1 as tonight and from reading the list above that is terrible!

Quality has sure gone from VH1 and again the playlisting is a joke - who the hell compiles these and why are they not checked before broadcast? But again they can easily manage throwing on the MTV ads without a problem

I'll add regarding these "decade" disco nights - just to cut losses just call it a friggin disco and you can play music from all decades since you can't get a grip on anything 80's or 90's!
