MTV Classic has got horrible ratings in the latest BARB figures. The top rated show got just 6000 viewers.
In Australia/New Zealand, their version of MTV Classic has become a copy of VH1 Classic Europe, with no boring Top 100s or other themed charts. Why not try that here? There's not many viewers left to lose.. http://www.mtv.com.au/shows/channel/mtv-classic/ |

Linkinpark can I ask what were the songs they played and what improvement you think has happened? (just wanting an idea as if they are able to improve MTV ROCKS playlists then surely with more effort it can be applied to others (but I doubt that!)
However they have rock countdowns, indie vs rock and chart indie. They are also giving exposure to bands like Imagine Dragons from MTV World Stage, Fun, The Killers, Biffy Clyro live, Beady Eye Live at Ibiza Rocks. They have late night rock shows on the schedule. It's by far the best I've seen the channel in a long time. Whoever is scheduling it is doing a fantastic job. Sometimes I can tune in and it's a heavy metal track followed by indie. You can actually keep it on and get some variety in the background unlike the majority of loop channels these days. I don't mind channels like MTV being the last pay channels when they do a better job than Bauer who axed Q, CSC who pulled NME aswell. Indie and rock music still makes up a good 1/3'd of the UK charts with R&B/Dance and Pop filling the rest. I'm amazed there's not more rock channels as there's plenty of bands and many of them popular. Arguably Oasis are one of the biggest bands of the past 20 years in the UK. But now there's Beady Eye but as I say MTV is covering that well. |

(why not even MTV Rock/Indie) |

Thanks for the feedback Linkinpark .... sounds like to me from what your saying whoever is running MTV Rocks knows their job and to be different with what they play. So why the hell are MTV Dance/Base on a loop whilst VH1 is on loop full of mistakes yet MTV Rocks seems to pass? Can the person in charge of MTV Rocks come help the rest out - I think we need the "midas touch"

Heard this for the first time in years the other day too http://www.dailymotion.com/video/xsd...ve-it-up_music Say's this video was on a VH1 80's weekend - I wonder how long ago. looks like the video was uploaded 6 years ago. |

MTV Classic should really try themes like 80s One Hit Wonders (but not a Top 100!) instead of "Steps 90s Extravaganza Top 100!!" and other rubbish which according to BARB, virtually no one is watching. |

Those graphics were from approx Early 2004 - Summer 2005. The look of the channel and the music was a lot better then.

It does seem strange they keep playing the same old - maybe trying to get their fees worth from Lee and Lisa Steps. So far on 1987 - Mack - Wonderful Life and Wet Wet Wet - SweetLittle Mystery....followed by Michael Jackson - The Way You Make Me Feel and Kiss - Crazy Nights - 4 songs in a 30 min programme

1988 - Fleetwood Mac - Everywhere, Aztec Camara - Somewhere in my heart (fair play), Terence Trent Darby - Sign your name..., Oakey/Morode - Together in Electric Dreams (which i'm sure was a few years earlier than '88)The Christians - Harvest For The World, Aswad - Don't Turn Around.
And that's that. |

MTV2 was more metal/rock but VH2 filled the indie void so they can't really rename it back. If they separated the channels again it may work.

I still think a simple change can make a difference I just hate it being called MTV "Rocks" yet all the other channels seem to make more sense ie I liked the name MTV2 as I knew it was known as an "alternative" channel OK I admit it did play selected artists of rap/dance but under "rocks" and doing nearly the same thing (when I have seen it) looks out of place ie Bastille (pretty sure they have been played) I will agree I do find ashame the "attitude" of Bauer/CSC is to sort of rub them off ie play no interest as was mentioned in this thread supposedly on the UK HOT40 and to say something like "they no good for this channel" is a bit of a joke EVERYONE should be played be "mainstream" or "unknown" everyone deserves a chance but its going back to "favouritism" |

I've heard that MTV no longer have the equipment to digitise older videos (those on Betacam SP rather than Digibeta) in their library. In addition it has been suggested that a lot of earlier digitised material has somehow become 'lost' since 2010 when play out facilities were upgraded.

Although "We are the 80s" on VH1 Classic Europe still has a good selection with some tracks that never seem to appear on the UK channels. It's on now actually, playing "Electronic - Getting Away With It". |

It's worth noting that MTV has been played out digitally since the
late 90s. Had everything been kept as digital files since this date, there'd be a huge selection to choose from. However, MTV Adria was supplied with some especially poor quality 'new' transfers a couple of years ago when pristine quality versions of the same videos had been played on UK and European channels in the past. This ranged from pink/green banding at the top of the picture, to the whole picture becoming unstable and colours bleeding into each other. This is hardly what you'd expect from a 'professional' broadcaster. It also seems like a waste of resources to make new transfers of videos which had already been digitised in the past, especially when there are many others sitting on a library shelf which have never been digitised. |

Perhaps that explains why MTV Classic moved more towards the 90s and 00s, and the remaining 80s material isn't as broad as it once was.

If so shows you lack of interest in these departments! |

Since MTV UK took over the Australian channels, MTV Classic Aus has the same schedule as VH1 Classic Europe. It might be exactly the same channel just with different graphics but i'm not sure about that.

So MTV Dance (AUS) can vary its playlists whilst it is in UK control but the UK version is basically repeats with not much new or "old skool" - I did note that for MTV Music (fair enough) but MTV Music UK is cross between MTV Hits/Live and same things stuck on repeat a la countdowns Basically confused more now with these clowns at MTV UK I really am EDIT: I would tell those in Australia/NZ gain control of your MTV as very soon it will DECAY and we ain't kidding!

MTV Rocks
Totally agree with you linkinpark875. Saw yesterday first great countdown that they made ( usually nirvana-smells like... is no 1 in any countdown) yesterday in MTV's 50 All Stars Of Rock videos were really good choosen, ![]() This what I remember that was in countdown that I haven't seen on any MTV channel for years!: 13 was Metallica- played "The Memory Remains" 12 was Smashing Pumpkins-"Ava Adore" Also in their slot "wake up with rocks" they played: Vance Joy-"Riptide" - great video btw. and in night slot "All Night Session" You can catch great alternative tracks and nice rare videos. Reminds me of very missed MTV|2 MTV Rocks really did improve, they have bombay bicycle club-"luna" in their playlist also new from Half Moon Run-"Full Circle" after their amazing video "Call me in the afternoon"Also noticed that their web site has some refresh: http://www.mtv.co.uk/music ![]() Love to see this changes on MTV channels waiting for VH1 refresh in 1st Feb. (hopefully) ![]() Quote:
