Unreliable Direct Debit collection?

(Posted this already in the the BB internet section before realising it might be better off here! Whoops.)

Hi

I and my housemates at uni are on a BT broadband package with an option 2 landline (free evenings and weekends, very useful for chatty housemates!) I am paying, and my housemates pay me back monthly for Net and phone. Meanwhile, the money to BT goes straight out of my Direct Debit.

The quarterly bill for the internet has always been on time and taken out promptly, but the money for the phone (a separate DD) has become increasingly unreliable. I had the understanding it would be monthly but on one occasion I had to wait a quarterly period for the phone money to go out of my account. Now I just checked my account this evening and no DD has been withdrawn for the phone since last November. This is too long a period even for a supposed "quarterly" bill. I'm not too sure why this has happened; the two DD have always been separate, and I've never before paid the Net and phone bill at the same time. I'm worried that before I leave my student house in the summer and end the contract, BT will check records and see money hasn't been given to them for the rental phone-line. What should I do? Is it the fault of the phone company or my bank?!

I don't want to choose another provider/do anything drastic etc, for as I said, I'm leaving the house very soon

Thanks for any advice

Hi Lilangel,

Quarterly direct debit should be deducted from your bank account 10 days after the production of your bill. It sounds like that this is not happening in relation to your broadband account. I can only check this if you can provide me with your details. I'll pm you and if you want me to check then drop me a mail.
