hiya,ive recently bought a new car and decided to look for a new stereo for it.

i have around £120 to get one but i wanted 1 that links my new ipod touch up with it.does anyone know of any good stereos which i can do this with?

any reples would be great.

I bought it from my local HMV store but I can't seem to find it on their website at the moment.

It's one of those devices which transmit your iPod's sound via the airwaves to be picked up by your car's aerial and played through the car radio.

The one I've linked to also transmits song data so your car's radio will display the track name.

Cheaper and less hassle than fitting a new stereo and will work with any future stereo you may decide to upgarde to.

FM Transmitters = crap.

Wouldn't touch one with a bargepole.

Plenty others out there, I just googled for "ipod car stereo" and that was the first hit.

A hard wired connection is a much better option than FM. Definitely the way to go.

Just make sure you keep you keep the old stereo so you can swap it back if you sell the car and move your good stereo into any new car.

Didn't even notice that site wasn't sorted by price. There are loads of them on there well within your budget. Just a matter how much much/how good the control over th iPod you want is .... and how much you want to pay for it.

Of course you're entitled to your opinion and seeing as how you're such an 'expert' I'm guessing you've bought, tried and experienced every single FM transmitter ever made??

I own the device I've linked to and have never had one problem with it. The sound quality is excellent and should you move your car into an area where an local overlying radio station uses the same frequency (Causing overlaps and disortion) then you just press a button on the FM transmitter, it finds a new, clear frequency and your car stereo automatically changes to the new frequency.

FM transmitters are rubbish.

They never have, and never will be, on a par with a hard wired connection. That goes double if the device it's connected to is designed to have an iPod connected to it - they're not in the same league, never mind ballpark!

I have tried, and experienced, several FM transmitters and every single one of them has been garbage if you ask me.

Far too many variables:
[LIST][*]Interference.[*]Your location.[*]The location of the ariel in your car.[*]They usually need batteries. If they don't, then they drain the iPod/MP3 player.[*]FM quality, even without interference, isn't that great in the first place.[*]Prone to problems as you drive about, especially over distance. No need to take it so personally .... and you're right, I'm entitled to my opinion ... and my opinion is FM transmitters are mince!

In sancheeez defence. Can't say I've tried them all, but I went through ALOT of them before the shop gave up and I got a full refund.

I agree with sancheeez, sound quality was awful in all of them, the signals have to be so weak to be legal that they are awful. Much better having it hard wired if you can.

I'll second that.

I've had two Alpine head units - the first one (9855), which worked perfectly with the 5th gen ipod. You have full iPod control via the head unit, which addresses a major issue with FM transmitters - its dangerous to look at the iPod whilst driving, and its probably on a level with using a mobile phone against your ear.

The second unit is the IDA-X100, which you could probably get for a better price now, as its been superceeded (or possibly look for the X200 or 300). They only connect to an iPod (or USB stick), no CD player built in. I've got both an iPod Touch and the 5th Gen iPod connected at the same time, and its a stunning unit - colour screen that displays album art, very easy unit to use.

I am also looking for a new car stereo to play my iPod touch on but I also want DAB on mine.Can anyone find a unit that does both let alone recommend me one?Help me please Radio 1 is driving me mad!!!!!

You can plug in either an iPod or a USB memory stick into the supplied cable, works fantastically well.

If you can stretch for another £50, try to find an Alpine IDA-X100. They've got a fantastic colour screen, and can display album art.
