Not sure if this is of interest to anyone but I copied a tv programme onto a USB stick from the Foxsat and plugged it in my Popcorn Hour and it played fine, I was quite expecting that, I thought the .hmt and .nts files would give it problems.
Foxsat Files Play on Popcorn
I've no idea what a popcorn hour is but in general devices simply ignore files they don't understand.
The Popcorn Hour is a Network Media Tank, a type of media player, I wasn't aware of any other hardware being able to play files from the Foxsat that was all, from what I have read in this forum is that people use software like VLC Player to play the files.

mpeg2 .ts files are pretty standard- it is the HD .ts files that are more troublesome and often require converting to mkv or mp4 to play on anything other than what recorded it.
When I first got my HDR, I worked out how to record HD without encryption and copied to my PS3 (via external hdd) - the HD video plays great on the PS3 as well.

Not sure I cannot play back .ts files on my ps3 without using some form of conversion.

Just did a bit of research - it appears PS3 will play .ts files without conversion- presumably the functionality was added when the Play TV add on box was released?
yes, I was going to say that it worked back in Dec 08 when I got my HDR. I can copy files to external hdd then copy from there to PS3. HD plays back great on PS3. Not tried it since I upgraded HDR drive to 1TB (plenty of space now), but nice to know its possible if needed for archiving on PS3.
I have tried making a copy of a 2 min clip recorded off BBC HD in Non-Freesat mode and then transferred it to USB stick, the file however would not play back in the HDR, it had heavy pixelation, has anyone been able to play back HD files from a USB stick? maybe my stick isn't man enough or can the files only be played back from a USB drive?
A USB stick is probably too slow to play back HD direct. You would need to copy the file across and then play it.

When you go into non freesat mode turn the stb off and on again. Now when you record HD it's not encrypted and will play fine from usb and also on a fast enough PC using vlc player.

Just tried it out of curiosity Blotch, copied a recording of In The Night Garden (must have been my "friend" that recorded it
) across to my USB stick and attempted to play it in DVB Viewer. Plays perfectly, not a stutter in sight. I'm impressed

Thanks for the info, I tried that and it did indeed work, plays a file from BBC HD from my USB stick, very neat indeed.

I think I have mentioned elsewhere that I am collecting all the Grand Prix of this season and copying them to my external Iomega 320Gb 2.5" USB drive (formatted Ext3)?
Imagine my delight when I copied all the files from my Grand Prix folder on said USB drive onto my PC (using Linux) and then fired up Windows 7 RC's Media Centre, set up my movie/video folders, waited a few moments to see if it "found" them and there they are! =AND= they are played beautifully in their native HDR format by the embedded Media Centre Player!!!!!!! 
Now I am a MUCH happier bunny than I was before!
NOW we're cooking on gas!

After the Popcorn restarted in USB Slave Mode the 1Tb drive in Popcorn was visible in the Humax Media Manager.
It allowed me to copy off big files (one 7.7Gb) and yes it does play most of them but they play faster than than they would on TV. Thus all the voices are a pitch higher.
Is this a Popcorn or Humax issue?
Any thoughts please?

It's a guess but it sounds as if the popcorn is treating the files as ntsc files and replaying at 29.97 fps

In the context used in this thread, its the Humax HDR (built in hard drive for recording)
