it is The Darkness, and according to midweek sales, they are in number 1 at the moment!

Hmm, I dont really care, nothing stands out.

Mad world - It's okay. Overrated. A bit bland.
Darkness - It's like horrible 80's hair metal all over again, no thanks.
The idols - This record makes me sick. The auidacity of them to release this is beyond me. Please dont buy it.
proper chrimbo - Novelty christmas tune, that isnt even funny.

Yawn.

Some valid points here. The Darkness's new tune is the best out of them, so that one wins it for me. Mad World is boring (Gary Jules had better enjoy his 15 minutes of fame while it lasts!), The Idols' offering is cringeworthy and Proper Crimbo is reasonably funny, even if it is based on one of Channel 4's bunch of popular but overrated shows.
Also, Billy Mack's tune is a pointless parody! God, the charts at Christmas are strange! And could someone please fetch me a gun? The Cheeky Girls still have the cheek within them to have extended their own 15 minutes of fame for far too long now!

Darkness all the way. Justice that the Band of 2003 pick up their first number 1 on the most important chart of the year.

Mad World is WAAAAAAAAY overrated, it's an average cover of an ok song.

Pop Idol is just bollocks.

Come on it's been so long since there has been a proper xmas number one. The Darkness song has everything an xmas song should have.

You may hate them, but they are managing to save the British Music Industry.

I love the darkness and there old sound, ok song but it's still better than there rivals for number one. There's a good song on the cd-single called ''i love you 5 times''.

According to CD:UK (excluding probably the biggest selling day, admittedly):

1) Darkness
2) Gary Jules
3) Ozzy
4) Avid
5) Idols

Good stuff!

A cover version gets number 1, that's quite sad really.

Would have been nice to have a Christmas number one with Christmas in the title. But music isn't the loser 'cos it's a proper song with proper singing etc and Bell[s] End ("puerile pun" - The Observer) is hardly the best thing the Darkness have done.

Just doesn't seem right to have the No 1 played at 6:45. Where's their sense of occasion?

Good song in xmas number 1 shock!
That's the first time I've listened to the charts in about 10 years and it's the result I wanted to hear
Well done to Michael Andrews and Gary Jules!

It's nice to see a good song end the year at the top during such a poor year.
